I love how people say that the apps store are completely equal when they are not. It is totally dependent on your personal uses!

For mine I went right down my list of most used apps and about a third of them were not available and had no viable alternative on android. Just because all the apps YOU use are available doesn't not mean someone else's apps are available as well.

I'm not bashing android as I have a nexus 7 and use it frequently I'm just saying check out the apps YOU use to determine if it fits YOUR needs. As they do not fit everyone's needs. The same could be said from switching from android to iOS as there are 2 apps on android that aren't available on iOS that I really like.

Name a few. I bet there are alternatives. You sound like somebody who is angry that Android has caught up. Either way, name some of your most used apps and I'm almost certain there is an Android equivalent.

Google Play just announced that they now have as many apps as Apple (700,000).

http://www.techradar.com/us/news/ph...matches-apples-as-it-hits-700000-apps-1108577

Themes, live wall papers, wallpapers, toggle widgets, carrier only apps, battery savining utility apps are apps now? Because that's what is being counted along with apps. On top of the apps any joe can throw on there.
People who say that Google Play app store has a worse selection of apps or a worse quality of apps are people who never touched an Android device.
wrong cuz I have both and the app selection is worst. I have **** load of games on my phone that will never be on android. I even sent Devs emails on iOS asking for certain apps to get ported to android so I can use on my tablet. I got two replaces back about the piracy rate being to high to even port them.

I find that games are hands down better on iOS. They usually seem to work and compatibility is usually never an issue unless you are using older hardware. There have been too many times when i am like, why can't my high end phone run this last gen game and others can? Just mind boggling for the Android Play Store. They've got some great games, just little issues and what not, still not up to snuff to iOS IMO.

As for everything else, i would say there is parity and even some better apps. I love the Scope app that manages my Facebook, Twitter and Foursquare feeds and posts. I have not yet found a good alternative that merges everything together in iOS. That's just one example. If you are rooted, there's even more the store can offer.

For things that I need, I can find everything I need on Android. I am not a heavy gamer, so I am not sure about the games. My impression is that for gaming, iOS still has a greater selection although that gap has been closing as time goes by.

What I find that is lacking are apps that can run on my tablet in landscape. I have a Transformer tablet with a keyboard dock. The tablet docks in landscape orientation. It is annoying when you launch an app that can only be displayed in portrait on my tablet. I sent a comment to a developer of one of these apps and his response is to use the mobile web site instead. That just pisses me off. If you are going to tell me to use the mobile web site, why botther letting me download the app in the first place?

If you are gaming on your tablet a lot, then you are probably a kid.

I gave my android tablet to my nephew and he loaded all sorts of games on it within 15 minutes.

Gaming is better on the iphone, but i don't game on touch screen devices.

day one as it syncs with the desktop app, omnifocus as it also syncs with the desktop and iPad app, tweetbot (ever twitter app I have used on android nothing compares and the best one I have found is the native twitter app, deliveries gives push notifications as my package moves, all of the android delivery status apps either do not have a lot of shippers listed or do not do push notifications as well if at all, and amazon mobile I can not download to my Nexus as it says it is incompatible with that device.

Those are just a few, please tell me some alternatives that give the same features of the ones listed.

And I could care less if Android catches up, I actually hope they do catch up and maybe surpass Apple, competition is good for consumers.

Don't know cuz I never downloaded one, but android has a crap ton of them too with other soundboards. Don't act like the google store isn't flooded with fart apps.

When you get to the amount of apps in each platform, it becomes irellevant. I can't remember the article but it said that only 40% of apps on the App Store in iOS have even been downloaded. Most just get buried and lost among the crowd.

Almost all apps (except games) in Appstore have equivalent in Play. But not the other way round. I can't find the following apps in Appstore which I am using in my S3:-

- A File Explorer that combines phone and cloud storages (box, gdrive, db etc) using side-by-side views allowing easy movement of files betw. storages. Ability to use the "Open With..." to open file using any registered & installed apps.

- Call Manager. Manage and schedule black/white list based on time/calendar entries. Also ability to track in-out call durations/costs. Also repeated reminders for missed events

- Call Recorder to record calls.

- Ring Profile Manager - i.e. on/off ring sound based on time, events or rules.

- Multi-clipboard (last 50 clippings + predefined text) to easily enter/paste text anywhere.

- Background write entries into a (sub) Google calendar for calls/sms activities (like a diary). Very useful if you have multiple cell lines. No need to move log/sms from one phone to another any more.

- Create one click direct send for pre-specified sms on the home screen.

- Auto send pre-defined sms/email to contacts birthday / anniversary. Auto backup data. Auto check-in to social networks based on location. Auto background upload of photos to social networks.

- Location-based (cell tower/gps) automation. e.g. when picking up someone auto-send a reminder sms when you are near predefined pickup point. Or turn on/off phone settings (BT, wifi, sound etc) when you enter/exit a certain predefined location.

- Simple scripting environment for automation. e,g Tasker app.

- NFC-based (e.g. tectiles) apps

- Home/Launcher replacement, Lock screen replacement, Live Wallpaper, Widgets

Why don't you count the number of fart apps in both app stores and report back. Don't know why people always bring up non-existing fart apps from 2009 into conversations thinking they are so clever.

From my experience my major apps that I use everyday omnifocus and day one they do not have, simple apps like amazon mobile are not available for the nexus 7 and the quality of the apps they do have compared side by side(tablet) do not compare at all.

So I have relegated my Nexus 7 use as a GPS/Spotify radio for my car and picking up a mini as my everyday tablet in conjunction with my iPhone for productivity.

Huh, I just saw Amazon mobile on the play store last night, along with Amazon player and the Amazon app store.

Check for yourself the google store, compare the apps you use and see if they are available plus prices; i doubt you wont find the apps you need or alternatives.

Android have pushed a lot the last years.

The play store is really good, it has a great selection of free and paid apps. It used to be bad though and they're still recovering from that.

Coming from an iPhone 4, I've found every app I use and need on the Play Store. It has a great selection and there are a lot of apps.

Have you followed the discussion or just jumped in at my post?

My post was in reference to the Apollo saying "Themes, live wall papers, wallpapers, toggle widgets, carrier only apps, battery savining utility apps" shouldn't be classed as apps in Google Play.

Well if useful programs like that shouldn't be classed as apps, then why should fart apps in ios store that serve no purpose.

Why not? Many people like these things. I personally use a volume toggle widget to switch quickly between different sound profiles.

"To quickly recap, malware on Android is not the issue some want you to believe it is. The sandboxing model keeps your phone safe, and common sense and the Google Play market make it bullet-proof against spyware and other corrupt apps. Everything else boils down to scaremongering and third-partyapp catalogs, and you already know you shouldn't download anything from there, don't you?"

I don't know what your definition of "good selection" is, but the Google Play Store now has over 700,000 apps.

I'd say that's a good selection.

The problem I have with a number of Android apps is that the app developers got lazy and made it look like an iOS app. The back button doesn't work properly. Instead of moving me back to the previous screen, it exits the app. It took me a while to realise what was happening and to press that button that had the pointy left side to go back. I don't use iOS much, so this wasn't obvious to me.
