No point in releasing iMovie for the iPad? LOL...oh man. Riiight. That nice big screen couldn't possibly be used for editing anything. Much better on the small screen of a phone. Guess what? My Mac-mini doesn't have a camera on it either and yet I still edit stuff with iMovie. And editing movies takes what to do???? That's right folks...it takes MEMORY.

Missing the point..

Your mac mini has input to capture video footage.

The iPhone uses it's camera for video footage.

iPad has no video capture or camera. So what exactly are you going to edit in iMovie?

I myself was surprised the iPad has 256MB of RAM, yet the iPhone 4 based on the same A4 processor has 512MB RAM. Doesn't really make sense. Surely 512MB of RAM for both products based on the same CPU would have been easier and made more sense. I have noticed scrolling lag in the app store via wifi which may be contributed to less ram, or purely a software issue.

Also a couple of websites that decode your iPad serial number with week of manufacture information show the iPad has 512MB of RAM, not 256MB. Maybe the wireless and 3G models have more RAM - possibility?

Might be meaningless, but when I use the 'memtool' app it sometimes shows the device as having more than 256 MB free. I assume it's just an app problem.

I'm still waiting to get an iPad, the memory isn't an issue for me. Money is the issue!

Yup.

I'll be getting one once I start graduate school (school again!) in October and settle down. Whatever is offered at that point is what I will get, unless there's rumors (or soon to be confirmed news rather) about an update in which case I'll wait.

I have 256 on my BlackBerry Storm 2 and ya it sucks and is the worst phone ever. However, that is not due to memory - it is rather due to the design by idiotic RIM. That said, iPad is well designed and will only use the RAM to keep certain apps running in background in iOS4 where as my BBS2 stores apps, runs them, does messaging, does phone call, and everything in 256 MG and that's why it sucks. iPad barely needs 128 MB IMO but 256 is way more than enough.

Really? Why bother and put 512 in iphone then?

Whenever I use my iPhone, I always keep wishing the screen was bigger. The Ipad has provided the solution albeit with a different device. The question of more or less memory in either device is moot because I doubt Steve would let any app that's a memory hog pollute the sandboxes that he's created for us to play in.:D

I don't know why it would. It's hella fast, the 1GHz custom made chip really makes all apps and processes its bitch.

Steve Jobs is dreaming about editing videos on the iPad.

Walt: So you made iWork for the iPad. Do you see things that the iPad can't do?

Steve: Well, you can imagine all sorts of things for the iPad. Video editing, content creation...

Walt: Does it require a faster processor?

Steve: Well time has a way of working these things out.

Let me translate it for you what he says: if you want to do more on you iPad then just consume media and play games, then safe your money and wait for the second generation.

No, You're missing the point. You don't think a third party can't come up with a way to do that? Not to mention that you can put your own videos on the device now through iTunes. How much nicer would it be if you could edit those videos down further from an iPad device on the go?
