I used to love HTC phones but over the years even what some call better build quality doesn't sway me back. I started with a Sprint version of the HTC Hero for a work phone. From there went to the Evo 4G and then the Evo 4G 3D but after that the version of Sense UI on the 3D really kind of turned me off to HTC. From the 3D changed over to the Sprint version of the Galaxy S2 and carried that until the S3 was released. Touchwiz was a good change for me from Sense and to be honest the lighter plastic build of the S2 and S3 appealed to me as I was carrying two phones at the time with a personal phone as well.

During that time I was carrying a iPhone 3G and a 4 for a personal phone so when it came time for me to give up the work phone, my contract was up on my personal phone so I went S3 over the iPhone 5 and have since just upgraded that to the Note 3 and currently getting spoiled by it's huge display (which feels really small now). Touchwiz is definitely getting heavier compared to the S2 or S3 but even with that, plus the plastic build of the device most people despise, isn't enough to have me looking at HTC again. LG, Moto, Nexus devices, and even the current and next iPhone have my eye in regards to my next device.

How's the batery holding up for you guys since it's non removal able?

Also does the one still have the loose charging port that plauged the htc evo of?

I can trade for one but since htc doesn't transfer warranties I'm outta luck in that department.

I think it depends on the specific models of each brand. One guy may like the One or Butterfly S and had a very bad experience from a lower end like the One SV or Desire 600.

We know HTC isn't a One-hit wonder type of brand. Or some Johnny-come-lately. I followed HTC when they started to release the Tytn on AT&T. I loved some of their designs including watching them manufacture the very first Xperia phone for SE and Nexus for Google. I love the design of the 8X. They had some good ones with even a kickstand and plenty of bad ones. The HD2 was a classic but they had some duds like the HTC First. What I dislike from HTC is they have never been great with battery.

I may take that back about Lenovo being a good brand in an earlier post. My Wife currently got a Lenovo A516 after selling her iPhone 4. Candy Crush crashes all the time and it would revert back to a static wallpaper. Jelly Bean with 512 MB of RAM is just too anemic when she has less than 35-70 of RAM after disabling alot of apps. But she originally wanted the Lenovo S820 with double the RAM. I cant judge Lenovo off just one phone. Depends really. Same applies to HTC. Depends on the specific model.

This is the biggest problem for HTC. Sales.

No one cares about HTC and their gimmicks anymore (Ultrapixel, etc). It's all about brand recognition and only Sammy/Apple have it these days.

HTC has really good build quality. hardware is their strength; software (and lack of updates) is their greatness weakness.

While quite possibly very true in the past (cannot comment myself as the HTC One was my first HTC device since a TyTn II (rebadged as AT&T Tilt)), I'd say that's changed dramatically this year. The hardware is still good but they've significantly improved their update turn around times (far quicker than Samsung) and I'd argue Sense is a far more efficient OEM skin than most, especially the offerings from Samsung and LG.

Like I mentioned in an earlier, if HTC goes belly up as it only has 7% marketshare in the US and even a smaller share globally like 1%, I would have to make a move to something like Sony as my next brand if the HTC ship sinks within a year or two. Gotta start thinking of the future. I preferred webOS but Palm went dead when HP bought it. Cant get all sentimental with any company on the ropes.

HTC is like Sega was back when Sega was releasing the Dreamcast. Financially in trouble. Except Sega was better at making software while software from HTC has never been a highlight for them. Sega went on becoming a 3rd party software maker for everybody and I can see HTC reverting back to a contracted OEM vendor without any of their branding. Quietly make Amazon phones or whoever partners with them.

HTC is just as 'good' as any other major OEM. They have simply made a ton of bad decisions in the past few years with their lineups, naming, marketing, and hardware choices. Hopefully they will have learned from their mistakes in 2014. I think 2013 was not a good year for them.

I positively abhor HTC. Their Sense UI is a cluster that's almost as boggled down as Motorolas Blur was. If they had more RAM, it wouldn't be an issue but they just aren't quite there yet....

Clearly they haven't. Sense 5 is one of the lightest skins (ram manager is a testament to this) and most coherent from a design aesthetics pov too.

I would also say that LG's overlay is one of the best out there too. Very snappy. Doesn't get bogged down at all.

I like that on most new androids you've got the option to turn off animations. I can't really handle all that usually either.

That being said, I'm not happy with HTC or any other company that doesn't have SD card options in their Androids. That's one of the biggest advantages over iPhone in my option. It's up there with a bigger screen, widgets, and Swype.

As much as I love the HTC One, HTC just can't compete with Apple and Samsung we've seen. It's sad really, because they have phenomenal products. But in this business it's all about advertising, which HTC is terrible at.

HTC is a good brand in my eyes, I just don't like the shape of their smartphones, especially the bezels are way too big.
