No brand is a good brand for me.

Unless a brand has a reputation for horrible support, then it's a non-factor.

I look at device specs and reviews to decide on what I'm going to buy. The 'I'm buying device x because it's made by brand y and I like brand y because they are good and somehow them selling more phones and having more market share will make me happy' argument (And yes, I know I'm on a Mac fan forum) is bunk, pure and simple.

I own an HTC One, and it's been pretty good. Battery life could be a tiny bit better, but it's no deal breaker, and the fact I've dropped it a few times probably doesn't help. Will it make HTC devices jump to the front of the queue when my contract is up? Not at all.

Define your requirements, identify what meets them, then make a judgment based on your wants and how much you're willing to pay for them.

Not to me, my U.S. HTC One X was easily my favorite phone out of all the phones I've owned but the HTC One X+ that it got replaced with when I lost the One X was easily the worst smartphone I've owned in recent years. I won't touch another HTC phone for a long time now.

I have been 2 for 2 with HTC, so I have been pretty lucky and happy with them so far. HTC One and the older but smaller Nexus One are two of my fav phones of all-time. For three years, iPhone 4 had that crown. But I just prefer Android and HTC more now.

I like HTC. They aren't perfect but they might be my fav Android OEM even moreso than Sony. I like HTC because they can create a very stylish phone but you don't have to baby it or cover it in a case. I have only a holster case for the HTC One because it feels too bulky inside my shallow pockets and have the slip case that came with the Nexus One. Zero screen protectors. I prefer holding my phones in my hand without any case or screen protector. And the Nexus One still looks great after 2.5 years with just the Google & HTC white ink scraping off on the back. HTC One and Nexus One might be two of the best-looking smartphones ever with only the iPhone 4/4s and the Ascend P6 has ever reached in design perfection but ergonomically better and named better than those models. Plus, HTC isn't common like Apple or Samsung. I would rather have a phone not everybody has.

I feel HTC come up with the best phone designs. Better than Apple which comes up with one fresh design every two years. Unique and with a durable quality that you don't need to buy accessories to cover up its fragility or beauty. Even the plastic HTC uses like on the One SV feels solid. Taiwan is very close to Japanese quality. The successor of HTC One in 2014 will likely be the best designed phone of the year even if it is just a rehash from last year. Unless iPhone 6 can blow us all away. And even by then, so many people will be holding an iPhone 6 and 6s next year that the design will get played out quickly. Generally an iPhone 5/5s but bigger on the front and maybe a different backside. Still looks good but generally more of the same as well like Apple's MacBook designs.

I don't expect much from Samsung. They are like what the late-Steve Jobs said about Microsoft. No real taste. Copycats. Boring. Generic looking. No sense of style or originality. And the laggy TouchWiz is the ugliest and cartoonish Android skin ever. Many gimmicky features that don't always work like the air gestures and eye-scrolling. Samsung can be practical but they just don't have that sense of style like HTC, Apple, Sony, and even Motorola and Nokia have had for years. Maybe Samsung might surprise with the S5 or new F-series. Maybe they won't and will just likely milk the same design and name like they usually do. Note 3 Neo or S4 Active, anyone? And HTC doesn't need to hire me to bash Samsung online. I can do it for them for free.

Fav phone designs ever -

Apple - iPhone 4/4s, 2G, gold/space gray 5s

Huawei - Ascend P6
LG - Nexus 4, Optimus G
Sony - Xperia X1, Xperia P, Xperia Z1 Compact

I love HTC dislike Sense 5, all I can say is weather wallpaper...

I love sense 5. Best skin out there. Clean simple and not resource intensive. I'll keep supporting these guys til they fall flat on their face which I hope doesn't happen. First webos, don't need HTC to go down that road. Their warranty exchange program could be better. The process takes way to long. They're trying to do right with the promise of timely updates and for 2 years. 6 months free glass replacement. Their screens, design, build, and sound are second to none. Beef up the battery and I'm good.
