What are the advantages of being able to hide real iCloud email account and have aliases?

I don't worry about Google and privacy. They snoop to sell ads.
A Dad Took Photos of His Naked Toddler for the Doctor. Google Flagged Him as a Criminal.

A few days after Mark filed the appeal, Google responded that it would not reinstate the account, with no further explanation.

I personally don't want an entity scanning my data, be it emails, pictures or what not. I don't knock or critize people for choosing Google, Microsoft or Apple (though apple is much better) but I think its important that everyone understand the degree of how much google (and others) is scanning, using, reporting and selling your data.

because you can deactivate and or delete for good the alias you don't need anymore at any certain point, and that "hide my mail alias" that you created just for that particular reason won't receive any more email :)
If you use your real email is still out there, even if you unsubscribe later or cancel service.

You get a few "aliases" that all deliver mail to the same inbox.

I made a special one for when I made a political donation, knowing they would run amok with that spreading that address far and wide (which they absolutely did). Any email to that address gets filtered immediately to the trash :)
I would have used Hide My Email for that, instead of wasting an alias. Of course it depends if you have iCloud+ or not.

Edit: I guess you can delete an alias if needed. I didn't realize we could do that...thought they were permanent.

Yeah, I think I actually set that up before Hide My Email came out. When I'm in a similar situation these days I 100% use that instead.

So once I have deactivated an alias account, I can create another one?

Considering they would need physical access to your phone to get into your email, it's definitely a step above Gmail as far as security is concerned. I also rarely ever get spam in my iCloud inbox, whereas Gmail it was just a never ending barrage of spam missiles.

For websites you don't want to share your real e-mail with, you can also use their email alias service, although that costs money.

Yes. You can deactivate it if you might want to use it later and then reactivate it again, or you can delete it permanently.

The benefit of iCloud aliases as opposed other services is that nobody is going to be banning anything that has "@iCloud.com" in it.

Yes, if you deactivate a hide my email alias you can reactivate it at a later time or delete it permanently.
You can have as many as you want active and you can set them up automatically when you sign up for services like twitter, etsy, new york times, reddit, opentable, you name it!

If you use a normal iCloud alias -not hide my email- you can have up to three and you can't deactivate them, only delete them for good.

Hide my email are good for disposable like emails that you can dispose of at any time, iCloud aliases are better for setting up a more/less formal email account that links automatically with your main one.

My problem with Gmail isn't security but privacy. If something is free, then you have to figure out how are they making money. Google claims not to read your emails anymore but do you really know?
ICloud Mail is also free. So, I guess, the same questions apply to Apple?

In that sense nothing is free. How do you create and use Gmail without buying electronics that support it?
There's no comparison with iCloud versus Gmail. Google's main business is gathering and selling your data. Apple's main business is selling hardware and services.

Okay, that old tune. BTW: I didn't write the third sentence when you quoted me, don't know where that came from.

I mean if you want to look at it that way, she. But you can create a Gmail anywhere. You can go make one at the library. It’s not quite the same.

Free after purchasing an Apple device.

Yes, as an Apple customer who has purchased an Apple device, one gets a free iCloud email account. It is kind of a complimentary service.

In the case of that G company, we don't buy anything from them and we get to open many gmail accounts for free which can also serve as a means for the company to collect our data.

Yes, you can have someone let you use their Apple device to create an iCloud email, but using an iCloud email without an Apple device seems rather pointless. Also, you are only allowed to create 3 Apple IDs per Apple device.
Yes, and actually a friend of mine was even able to set up an iCloud email account at an Apple Store in Spain, without owning a device.

(I know, I was there)

As for pointless, I agree but it's always an option :)

No email service is secure period! Besides I used the same email address almost sense 1998 when the device I was using went belly up! The .Mac device came off lie to save my butt and woke well with Apple's Mail program and I even read it on the go through my web browser at iCloud web portal too that helps when on the go! Apple events email aliases by using the + button to add and alias email address ! to me a home user should have at least two email address with different servers, I use one for business and other as person email to keep down web sites selling their customer data for money is tight economy, in that helps keep spam email from reaching me!
