Keep in mind that if you ever decide to stop paying extra for iCloud +, you lose access to your email alias (Hide my Email) mail.

That’s true, of course. But both Google and Apple are using telemetry, which you can’t opt out, in order to make profits, albeit in different ways and quotas.
