Good afternoon.
I was thinking about buying the mentioned MacBook Pro (10core version) but I was wondering if it si already outdated for a new buy.
I mean, isn’t M2 series supposed to come in few weeks with the new Air? The m2 pro should follow in few months.

Edit: received lot of nice comment and suggestions: thanks.
I think that ppl reacting with laugh or angry emoticons didn’t understand what I’m meaning with outdated but it is ok.

It is not so necessary but an appreciable help to my new job.
However, I usually tend to buy Apple product at day one or at least in the first days so doubts come up considering the price of this product.

Sounds like you're suffering badly from FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out)
It's a wallet-emptying disease.
The cure is to have a look at the 14" MBP specs and decide if the specs meet your requirements for the next couple of years.
If they do, just go ahead and buy the current 14" and don't worry about the fact it might be replaced next week or next year. It won't be any less capable of doing what you want it to do. The model which replaces it will also get replaced. As will that. As will that.

The m1-pro is still an amazing machine - I mean its literally what... 6 months old? And its a huge step up from the previous machines.

And forget the CPU, the speakers and screen are awesome. The upgrade to those from the MacBook Air may be worth it alone depending on how sensitive you are to such things, but for me, worth it even without the CPU.

If you don't need a machine now you can always wait, but waiting for something when you're clearly in the market, and not having a great machine today (and for the next 3-5 years), when there's always a risk of apple doing something like the touch-bar or butterfly keyboard on the new model is... questionable.

Nope not outdated at all IMO. When I can look at both side by side I’d then say yep time to buy newer chip. But as of right now? Not even close yet.

So they can’t provide the M1’s or at least the higher end ones without a two month plus wait on BTO Max, etc. which won’t be any different for the M2’s.
And that’s not even getting into the terrible QC at the moment from supply issues/Covid/chip shortages. The yields are down across the board so items are getting by QC that under normal circumstances hadn't in the past.

So if you are looking at upper end models I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting as I don’t see them before Oct.
Entry levels I’d guess months before but the hype machine runs longer than normal in these times.

This is just my guess nothing more, but I’d pair those dates with seasonal change and how Covid has effected manufacturing in China based on its new crazy ZERO COVID GOAL and anything can be announced but can they be delivered into our hands?

While the exact timeframe is unknown, the best guess is that Macs are on a two year upgrade cycle so the M2 MBPs should be out around October 2023.

It is super fast and modern, most computer can't even be compared to Apple SoC and XDR, so no, it will be modern and pretty fast for years.... but if you don't need a Mac right now you can wait, but something better will come every year (or two) anyway, just buy it when you need it and enjoy.

Thank you for all the suggestions. Going asap to the shop and making my decision.
(Also aesthethic of the product is still in discussion. In my opinion is not the best Apple product)
I truly believe once you experience the product in person you’ll appreciate the design and build much more. I’m really enjoying mine, good luck!

It all depends about the features you value, although I don't see the M2 Airs getting the exquisite displays you get on the M1 Pro.

As mirrored above, buy what you need and not what Apple offers you, they have whole departments devised to get the wallet of people wanting to stay on the bleeding edge opened.

The M2 Air is likely this fall, not in a few weeks. I say 'likely' because we don't know. I would not expect to see M2 Pros until next spring.

Don't worry about things being 'outdated' worry about whether you need them now. There will always be some new thing a year after you buy a computer.

I’m a day one person and I got a 14 last week. My reckoning with the chip shortage, zero covid policy etc it will be ages before it is replaced. And even when it is, we’ve just seen a massive jump in performance I don’t think we’ll see again between machines for years.

Indeed it isn't. :p

Well might be, but if I was betting I would put my money on October for anything M2.

The m2 pro should follow in few months.

What makes you think that? There was a full year for M1 -> M1Pro/Max and while that might have not what Apple wanted to do I'll guess it's still be about 1/2 year after M2 (so spring 2023).

If you want something 100% new you have to buy at release. If you missed that and still want good value within a update cycle look out for special deals giving >10% off.

I thought that as well until I bought my 16. Not only is it the best MBP I’ve used by a long shot, I now greatly prefer its esthetics.

It’s not outdated unless Apple stops providing software updates. I have an M1 MBP and I don’t plan to replace it until about 2025z
