Good afternoon.
I was thinking about buying the mentioned MacBook Pro (10core version) but I was wondering if it si already outdated for a new buy.
I mean, isn’t M2 series supposed to come in few weeks with the new Air? The m2 pro should follow in few months.

Yes, it is horribly outdated. You need to send it to me IMMEDIATELY and I will take great care to dispose it for you.

The only problem I see getting a M1 Pro right now is maybe the shipping dates depending on the config you need, apart from that, no issues whatsoever. Also it's very unlikely that they release M2 and M2 Pro together, it could happen, but I really doubt it, best case scenario and being optimistic you're looking forward Q3-Q4 2022 to get those machines (M2) and Q3-Q4 2023 with M2 Pro. Just my opinion of course.

As many others told you, if you need the machine now, get it now, it will last you the next 3-4 years for sure w/o feeling outdated :)

Just bought this exact machine. It’s amazing all around. It has a ton of power and it’s just a joy to use. No worries about it being outdated anytime soon.

Easily my favorite laptop I’ve ever owned.

Thank you for all the suggestions. Going asap to the shop and making my decision.
(Also aesthethic of the product is still in discussion. In my opinion is not the best Apple product)
Aesthetics don’t matter when there’s work to be done. I don’t particularly like the aesthetics of the claw hammer I own, but damned if it doesn’t do the job and then some.

They just reinvented the entire laptop like 6 months ago. The only thing they probably update from here on out are the internals (cpu/gpu bumps). I’d buy now otherwise you could be waiting 2-3 years or more for a new platform

I have the 16 and it’s awesome kit but I still not enamoured with the design. I understand why they did it though and accept the ugliest Mac laptop since the Ti Book.

The current Mac isn't outdated. You will be able to use it for many years to come. Trying to always have the latest Mac so you can't keep up with the latest tech is an exercise in futility. Buy for today not what might come next. The Mac is a tool not an investment. When the tool wears out and can't properly perform the needed task at hand, get a new tool. No need to make things so hard.

I was thinking the same kind of thing, except buying an iPad Pro for now, and waiting until the M2's come out to buy the MBP or MBA. I keep hearing that the M2 will be out "soon". But now I'm wondering if I should just go ahead and get the M1 MBP or MBA, not sure which one yet.

I really hate the numbering convention apple uses because it makes people assume a 2 is better than a 1 when in all actuality a base m2 will be vastly inferior to a pro or max m1. The 14” mbp is probably 6 months into a 14 month cycle, no, it is not outdated.

I own one now. It doesnt feel dated at all, I’d buy the same right away if I lost it.

I barely tap the full power of this laptop using it professionally. If your usage case is similar then just bite the bullet. Amazing machine, waiting for an upgraded chip probably not worth it as it’ll be an incremental update.

Base your buying on Apples model cycle is best imo. Buy a new design close to release, use it for 4 years and if you want, buy the redesign. What I mean is the first release of a MacBook Pro in the design cycle; it has always held its own with all the processor upgraded versions until the following complete redesign.

even if you bought it today and they put out the m2 version tomorrow (which they wont) it still wouldn’t be outdated. From all the rumors the M2 is a marginal gpu boost. I’m sure there will be other factors that make it great but this machine is already great and if that’s the level of performance you need then you’ll be good to go. If you’re always waiting for the next gen you’ll never buy anything.

I don’t dislike the numbering it make it easy to know which is the current. But I agree the m2 air won’t be better than the m1 14 inch MBP

Depends on what you mean by outdated.

Personally, I've always felt it silly to worry about having the latest and greatest. I mean, they're just computers, regardless of when you buy them, they're going to get old eventually.

I wouldn’t buy any of the base M1 products at this point since M2 is very likely in the near future.

I think the M1 Pro, Max, and Ultra are safe bets since they are unlikely to be surpassed by the base M2 and are unlikely to be updated in 2022.

I love how frequent I see posts like “would this be outdated in few months?” here. How come it would be outdated if it is literally the latest product in line. If you don’t need a computer right now and also want the latest and the greatest, just wait. If you need one right now, go get it. I’m pretty sure you would be very happy with your purchase, especially with the mighty M1 chips.

How is the current model outdated? Makes zero sense. Something new will always be coming out. Just get what you need when you need it. Period

When I say “outdated” It is not referred to how strong the performance is gonna be. It is obvious that is not lacking any of that.
However, it is quite a pricey product (2849 euro here in Italy, fortunately I can afford without problem) but I pay attention to the money spent and so it would be a pity if I buy it and then in two months a M2 pro version pops up. It would not be the only case in Apple past (the same thing happened to me back in 2012 with the unlucky iPad Retina 3)

If you can find another machine that matches the display, battery life, speakers and speed for the same or less money from a competitor - buy it.

Not interested in Windows competition.

It’s a rhetorical question - there are no computer that matches the MacBook Pro M1 specs all in one device, or any of the M1 computers really.

The IT department at my work got a bit salty when I ninjaed an M1 Air to replace my Windows machine, so I challenged them to find an equal Windows machine, and if they did, I’d happily try it out. Here we are, months later, and I’m still on my M1 Air…

M series is absolutely amazing and disruptive.
Even the A series iPhone 13 pro SoC could be enough for a large number of people.
Talking about pure raw power new Alder Lake do represent quite a match but at a high cost of energy and temperature development (tried a i7 12700h notebook some days ago)
