Honestly I love my M1 Pro but would love to have a bit more battery life between 12h-13h would be perfect. Especially since with some apps unoptimised like What's App and Teams.

However I'm quite happy with my 14", I'm not sure when I will upgrade but maybe between M2/M3 Pro. Right now I have everything I would need.. Maybe a bit more memory would be nice but I'll let it slide this time and next time I'll upgrade to 32GB.

Good afternoon.
I was thinking about buying the mentioned MacBook Pro (10core version) but I was wondering if it si already outdated for a new buy.
I mean, isn’t M2 series supposed to come in few weeks with the new Air? The m2 pro should follow in few months.

Edit: received lot of nice comment and suggestions: thanks.
I think that ppl reacting with laugh or angry emoticons didn’t understand what I’m meaning with outdated but it is ok.

No.

My 2014 and 2015 MacBook Pros are not outdated. They can get warm to hot but they are still both fine for office and development work.

Almost ordered a refurbished base model MBP 14” a couple of days ago, but thinking about it, 512Gb is just not going to do it for the long hull that I keep my computers (still on an MBP 15” 2015 here). Then a 1TB model showed up today and I just could not justify the cost. Although the MBP 14” is pretty much the ideal replacement for my 2015, I can wait for the redesigned M2 MB AIR coming in the near future, and it will do basically everything I need except for that beautiful display… Till then, maybe, the old Thunderbolt Display paired with my MPB 2015 and iPad M1 are hopefully going to keep my finger off the order button.

Almost the same for me but as soon as the 14" hit the refurb store I saw a 512GB model, scrolled down a bit further and clicked on 1TB model in space grey. Not sure why you didn't do the same as the price difference between the drive sizes would not have a been a surprise, let alone make it unjust as purchase.

I had initially ordered a 14in MBP M1 with 1TB but Apple delayed the order and I found one at a retailer here but it was 512GB. I went for it and bought a LaCie 1 TB SSD drive on the Apple Store. The SSD works like a charm plugged into the ASD. I couldn't wait weeks for the MBP I initially wanted so I went for this and am glad I did.

I also went for Applecare+ as I had saved a bit of cash. You can always get around having less storage with fast external SSDs. yes, it can be an extra burden if travelling and you have to plug them in, but they're light and small now and work super fast.

Ahh, the confusing mind of the buyer (me)... refurbished 14” ers are just starting to become available here. [maybe too] Excited to see the base model at first, but note only slightly less than my education discount and realized it was still more costly than I could justify, and not the ideal 1TB. Next day just looking, now see a refurbished 14” 1TB available, but of course, it’s even more costly. 'justifying the purchase' for either the base or upgraded 1TB in my case I guess just comes down to more than I'm willing to spend at this time. Factor in the potential of an M2 AIR being better value for me, and I can wait.

I’m still rocking a 2017 MBP and whilst the desire to get a new Pro or Air is strong, I have to admit, it’s only because I like new Apple stuff.

The 2017 MBP works perfectly fine. Battery is a bit **** yes but I have it plugged in 98% of the time.

I’d absolutely get a MBP now if needed one.

if it si already outdated for a new buy.
Its basically outdated as soon as you buy it. There is always a faster, better model being released around the corner.

My line of thought for the past few years is, what computer is available within my budget that meets my needs. Odds are my needs are not going to grow exponentially in the following years and why worry about a next generation processor.

I built my desktop with that in mind, I could have gotten an Alder lake processor but I opted for the 11gen - its more then enough for me. I could have gotten a RTX 3080 but the RTX 2060 suits my needs and given the current state of GPU prices, I didn't have to mortgage my house for a RTX 3080

I purchased the M1 MBP Pro, knowing that in 6 months Apple was going to roll out an update in some form. When Apple does update their models, does mine suddenly slow down, or not meet my needs? The current line up is more then enough for me now and the future.

If you're looking to buy now and the current models do not meet your needs then save your money. If they do, then who cares that Apple will roll out a 2022 model of the MBPs
