I was finally able to get a hold of MVC through Netkas this afternoon and he sent a reply a few hours ago, followed quickly by his MVC blog post. Unfortunately that's already old news and everyone has already scavenged his stock before I could get there! Though, realistically, I'm thinking the stock wasn't there to begin with and things just hadn't been updated to reflect that until now. What'ryagonnado.

Anyway, I'd just like to thank everyone who replied within the thread. Special thanks to Netkas and Fl0r!an! I didn't know who either of you were before this thread, but I can tell based on the way others have spoken of you here, that you're both heroes within in the community. Keep up the good work, stay safe, yada yada yada...

As far as I'm concerned, this thread has been resolved. Thanks again to everyone involved!

SHUT IT ALL DOWN!

So because they don't run a mammoth stock level - no modding business will do that - and did not have what you required, you are calling them/him a liar?

You knew exactly the sort of **** storm you were going to get when you started this thread.

Wait...... What? Wtf are you on about? Is this some last minute trolling or do you honestly believe I said something derogatory about MVC or anyone else in this thread?

When I said the stock might not have been there to begin with, that was in reference to the stock counter on the MVC. When you select an option, it lets you know how many are still in. I go on to mention that it just might not have been updated yet – as in the site's stock counter hadn't reflected the actual number of items in stock due to the fact that the MVC site had not been updated in some time. How did you come up with this "liar accusation" nonsense?

Geez Louise, are you always this quick to take offense? Cool your jets, Man, for the sake of your own long-term health!

I don't even know what this is supposed to mean!

I had a faulty 7950 pos card off him 9+ months ago I think, full refund (though it cost me £20 in returns and £10 admin fee to HM custom leeches)

Wish I'd never bothered as a PC Card is fine for me, have never missed the boot screen despite doing a couple clean installs since. Now party with a AMD r9 380

The man has a day job as well.
This is my take on it. Most people posting seem to think that MVC is some vast professional business. Seems to me it's a small part time operation run on the side by an enthusiastic amateur. One reason that prices are high is that as it's a small scale operation MVC has to buy the cards retail not in bulk at wholesale prices.

@The Buggman:
Did you try out Clover yet?

That was the back-up plan if I couldn't buy pre-flashed from MVC, but I haven't started it yet. I tried wrapping my head around the installation process outlined by the tmx86 forums, but the 90+ pages of roadblocks and other issues in the replies hasn't left me the most confident. It might be a bit of a challenge, but the payoff seems worth it.

Just download Clover and install it. Choose "Legacy" when confronted with options because the Mac Pro doesn't have UEFI.

* Of course, I highly recommend trying this on a cloned backup drive.

Update: Here's a video of a guy who installed Clover on a flash drive. You can do this too. It would leave your macOS drive untouched. Note: You can stop the video after the 2:30 mark since none of the information after that applies to you.

I read page after page of people asking for support on this installation and that's really all there is to it? I can hardly believe it...

Alright, I'll get this done after a night's rest. You have my utmost gratitude.

Well, the people on tonymacx86.com are trying to get macOS to boot and behave correctly from unsupported hardware... This requires far more adjustments and tweaks. Your Mac Pro's hardware is all supported and should work with just the basic boot loader.

I don't agree with the way he handles the public as a business, but MVC has contributed a lot to the Mac community.

Unless Apple decides to go balls-to-the-wall on GPU, there's always a need for his skills. He's working on eGPU for newer Macs and there's definitely demand for it.

I second this sentiment. I purchased flashing service from MVC in January 2016 for a EVGA GTX 980. He did the work quickly and the card has performed flawlessly. I appreciate the service he was able to provide and I respect the knowledge and experience he has in what is a pretty arcane field.

Hey all,

Would anyone happen to know if MacVidCards is still an active shop? They haven't made new post on Twitter or their blog since September. I sent an e-mail asking a question on Saturday as well, but no response yet.

I was planning to make a purchase, obviously, but I'm getting kinda nervous about it now. Flashing a GTX 970 would only grant the convenience of a boot screen after all, right? And waiting for any driver updates on the 10xx's is looking like wasted time based on a lot of comments here...

So, is it maybe more worth just buying a BIOS 970 and foregoing the boot screen?

I finally broke down and got a GT120, it was cheaper than the markup on the GTX980 flash service and I came to terms with sacrificing a PCIe slot. I'm happy with my decision thus far.

The 980Ti is the most powerful GPU with OS X support (well, beside Maxwell TitanX which he's also selling) at the moment, there's just nothing more powerful he could turn into a Mac EFI GPU. A Pascal EFI GPU would be worthless without Mac drivers.

I take it I should just get a 980ti and wait for the 1080 to have full drivers?

to those who bought from mvc... how long did it take for him to ship your order? I'm on day 4 now. Emailed him 1 day ago but still waiting for a response

I bought it from his eBay account. I didn't need to communicate with him and the order took about 2 weeks to arrive on international shipping. Might be better to buy from there as eBay offers buyer protection.

his ebay store is currently empty, except for this 1 PS4 game that is on sale.
haihh..

For all the disagreements people have had with MVC over the years, I have never heard of him stealing or providing shoddy service. The man is probably just busy.

[edit] Mods, can he be reinstated yet? We are missing out on a ton of useful information.
