OP here as well with a new card from MVC. Purchased the EVGA GTX970 on Nov 11th. Made no attempt to contact MVC immediately before or after the purchase. The item was shipped 7 days later, on Nov 18th, priority mail and arrived on Nov 21st.
The packing put functionality first. It didn't arrive within EVGA's box or with any of their materials other than the plastic carton protecting the card itself along with two adjustable 6/8pin cables included within (I only needed two 6pins). He made a small hole in the plastic carton and slid in the little hook-notch thing off the side of the PCI interface to secure the card tightly within the carton. There was a combination of packing paper and bubble bags to secure the carton within the priority mail box.
The card itself was in good condition. There were remnants of cotton or paper (presumably from a paper towel) left on some rougher surfaces where he may have made attempts to clean the card after the mod. He did, however, leave a large thumb print on the outside portion of the metal plate containing the vent and assorted outputs.
Installation was, for all intents and purposes, plug-n-play. I did read previously that some users have had issues with these cards if they plugged them in on the lowest PCI slot, so I made sure avoid that. Turning it on, you'll notice some code displaying just before the Apple logo and loading bar appear. After loading, the screen will turn black with the outline of the loading bar still visible for just a split second before displaying your desktop.
Performance of the card versus my older one is like night and day. I immediately performed some manual stress testing which my old card would chug through on its best days. This new card blows through each task with almost the highest quality results (it is entirely possible that any missteps are the blame of my older 2 x 2.8GHz quad core processor or even the software itself).
Using the card for the past few days, I've barely noticed any noise. I sometimes hesitate when turning on my computer. My last card was quite loud on startup, but it was a solid indication that the computer was booting. Now, this new card makes almost no noise at all from its two fans. I find myself stopping and staring for a while just to be sure the computer is booting.
Overall, I'd say I'm very pleased with my purchase so far. Everything seems to be working order. I'm happier with the pricing and warranty changes that were made. Shows he's making a real effort to rebuild some confidence in his business. Thanks again to everyone here who helped me come up with alternatives. If anything goes wrong with this card, I'll still have those options as a solid fall-back plan.
