As a Android user myself and a guardian of many iphones in my household, My response to this:

1)S7 is last year. The S8/Note 8 is this year

2)Android phone batteries will never be as long lasting as iphone. Not only do Iphones not do true multi tasking, but they don't come with Googles battery sucking apps fully loaded. Also, that usage is high. I suspect a dodgy app or bad reset. ( android does benefit from a bit of periodic maintenance). Reset your phone and disable the google apps you wouldt use if it was an iphone and you will see a marked improvement.

2) Not to those without IOS

3) Samsung music is ok but its not an itunes replacement. GPM is googles itunes equivelent and is fantastic. You should make your itunes comparison to something as relevent in the android space.

4)in the external environment, Itunes is an utter heap of *********. The Phone player might be ok, but good god, the itunes/Computer mechanism needs to die.

5) See point 2

6) That's an app issue. I use the (android) app widget for boarding passes. works a treat.

7) Disagree. The Samsung calendar is great imho. not sure what icloud has to do with anything. All calender's are sync'd immediately

8)You need to learn about speed dial/favorites

9) Never had that.

10) see point 2.

Personally, it reads like you just miss the iphone.

Miss it? I guess maybe but only because of all the issues listed above. I am no power user and have no doubt there are workarounds, different apps, and reasons for everything listed. Having said that I never had any issues with any iphone I have had.

I tried android. It simply lacks compared to ios for me. No big deal since I can go back.

I had 4 different iPhones before I switched to android due to androids costing less. Right away I noticed that Android was not as refined in both hardware and software but was determined to give it a fair try. With all the deals on androids phones I started upgrading almost twice a year through incentives from my cell carrier which were just not available with iPhones. In this time android also improved greatly and became much more usable.

Last fall I got a sweet deal on an iPhone a tried to switch back to iOS, but by this time my integration in google was too much and I had to switch back as soon as I scored a deals on a new phone. I use many google services (drive, photos, music, maps, etc) and have multiple google products (chromecasts, google homes, etc) and even though I could use these with iOS, they function much better with android.

Apple hardware is better, but for me the ecosystem and cost are more important, and for those reasons I choose google.

You're wrong about battery life. I have a iPhone 7 and a Galaxy s8. With the same usage I get around 7hrs usage time on the iPhone and 7hrs screen on time on the s8. Out of those 7hrs of usage on the iPhone I would guess it's about 5-6hrs of screen on time.

Best time ever to try Android. Stick with Samsung and you are safe. If you don't, go to the Pixel devices. I can't recommend other vendors due to some type of issues with their flagship handsets.

I enjoyed your signature and your post. Just curious, what apple devices did you own before making the switch?

I am about to go with the s8+ because I am just not impressed with the X and could use a little customization in my life, plus I use google services vs apple. I would simply miss iMessage, but not a deal breaker i guess? (friends won't use 3rd party app so I would be the green bubble in texts (who the hell cares).

I've been watching several youtube videos on the s8+ and am more and more confident about it.

iPad 2, iPad 3, iPad Air, iPad Air 2 , iPad Pro 1st Gen 12 inch model and 9.7 inch model and two MacBook pros 2013 and 2015. I could never do the iPhone so always felt too limited and the last generation iPad Pro killed all hopes of me trying to enjoy Apple's devices with it's limitations. Girlfriend had a iPhone 4, iPhone 5, iPhone 6 plus, and currently she has iPhone 7 plus planning to purchase a iPhone 8 plus so no I can't persuade everyone including her. I do try out her devices and still don't get the wow factor she has.

You will enjoy the S8 plus especially if you have been limited to iOS for a while...it's like a whole different world with freedoms.

Just a really, really important point for those who are, or are thinking of switching to Android.

It's not an iPhone. It's not IOS.

(Same goes for those going the other way lol)

An example of what I mean is perhaps the poster above who I replied to regarding his experience with voicemail access on android.

Instead of trying the apple way and failing, google how your manufacturer and android handles the issue and you might be pleasantly surprised.

For Samsung, you would learn that you can have voicemail as speed dial, or set as a favorite or as a desktop icon.

Don't get android and be disappointed it's not an iPhone. Give it a chance!

According to me the iPhone 7 has more lag and shutter than the S8 – I have both! Both were tested with a reset factory and without heavy stuff. I'm testing the S8 which maybe I will keep while I will sell the iPhone 7.

I don't want voicemail as a speed dial. For a message that I just got that would be fine, but if I want to listen to the 7th message saved it is a pain in the ass. With a list I can select whatever message I want to listen to. With S7 I have to get out of phone app, open visual voicemail, and go from there. If I then want to make a call after (to a person who did not leave a voicemail) I have to get out of visual voicemail and go into phone app. I am also listening to a message in Visual Voicemail and I want to call that person back I can click on call. If I am calling into a voicemail due to a creating a shortcut to call my own voicemail I cannot do that. IOS lo and behold has everything related to calling in the phone app. Again I have no issue with Visual Voicemail itself, but it should be incorporated into the call app so that you can access it through that app. That is common sense.

One other thing I forgot to mention is the keyboard is atrocious compared to the iphone keyboard. Not even in the same ballpark. Very few if ever mistakes on iphones. Multiple mistakes and corrections needed on S7. Wife has same issues on my phone compared to hers.

I wanted to love the S7 and did on day 1. It just got worse from there.

FIrst to admit I am not a power user and have no desire to customize which IOS is very limited in.

When I mentioned I would be leaving Apple to go to S7 Edge multiple people told me "see you back in a year." They were right.

I actually followed my own advise and googled what voicemail options android and IOS have.

I appears that visual voicemail is a thing. Has been on IOs forever and is now available on Android.
However, its entirely dependent on the carrier (regardless of OS) if you have it or not.

Its not available on either in my country.

So it looks like you got lucky. So i understand why you miss it. Seems a cool feature.

I have Visual Voicemail. What bothers me is that for me to go into visual voicemail I have to get out of phone app, go to Visual Voicemail icon, select it, and then I can see my list of messages.

A poster said to just program a voicemail dial in as a favorite so I do not have to leave the phone app. That is great if you want to check a message you just received, but if you have a message that is 7th on the list then it is a pain in the butt. With IOS if you are in the calling app you can select the icon at the bottom of the screen to look at messages. A much more seamless process.

In the end Android just feels sloppy. It seems like they got 90% of the way there and just stopped.

Anyone who uses the term lagwiz is someone showing their bias.

Bias towards what? I use android and iOS all the time. I've changed more android phones then I can remember (or care to admit) in the last year alone. But out of all those phones, not even one was from samsung. I get to use samsung in my work (mobile developer), and samsung phones are damn slow when compared to nexus/pixel/oneplus. Even when compared to likes of xiaomi.

Samsung changed the TouchWiz name because it had such a bad reputation. And that reputation came for a good reason. Did they improve it? Of course they have. Much better now. But still far from others I have mentioned here.

If you say that Note 8 has more features then Pixel, I tend to agree. Because it is true.
But if I say that Pixel is simply much smoother and faster phone, am I lying?

I mean, OnePlus 5 can eat S8 for breakfast when speed and smoothness of the phone is in question. And the great thing is, everyone has a choice. Want features? Go for samsung. Want smoothness and speed? Go for (near) stock android.

Simple.

Usually bias against Samsung. Whenever a prson says "stay away from lagwiz, lulz" as some people here do? It says enough. Also, as a guy with a Pixel? The smoothnss thing vs an S8 is overplayed.

It isn't the features keeping me on the S8, it's the better battery life and better performance versus the Pixel.

The only issue I am gonna face is what to do with my Apple Watch if I buy a Pixel XL 2. Does anyone know a competent smartwatch on Android Wear comparable to AW?

I played around with an S8 at B&H and put the animation speed to 0.5x. Its very quick after doing that.

This is as much on the carrier and device manufacturer as it is on Android. I have a Nexus 6P on Project Fi. I have visual voicemail IN MY DIALER APP. Android is capable of doing it, the carriers choose to shove their bloat down our throats to have the feature. In my dialer app (the one provided by Google) I can swipe between favorite contacts, contacts, call history, voicemail, with an on-screen button to bring up the dial pad on any screen within the app.

Well, it isn't bias. It's a fact. You don't know me, and I don't know you. So I won't take it against you if you don't take my word on this. But I guess guys from XDA and their words mean something?

Samsung is not even in the same ball park when smoothness and speed is in stake with Pixel, let alone OnePlus.

It isn't the features keeping me on the S8, it's the better battery life and better performance versus the Pixel.

I highly doubt it. Samsung has great cameras, loads of features. And I get that. But if it is all about battery, OnePlus 5 beats S8+ easily. But even OnePlus 5 is a joke in that department compared to some other manufacturers (most of them you probably never heard of). So if it is all about battery, you wouldn't even consider s8, pixel, or any other phone mentioned here.

Read the whole sentence. I was saying why I chose the S8 Plus over the Pixel XL. As in, I have the Pixel XL at home running Oreo and it's overhyped in terms of performance.

yes

android is great at the moment. Note 8 might be the best phone of the year. Pixel is out next

S8, S8+ and LG V30 are also excellent phones. Throw in the two you already mentioned and I'd say you probably have some of the best Android phones ever on the market right now.

If you're the type that enjoys different technology and new ideas right now is a great time.
