I always do backups, but this time I never had the need... Big mistake on my part. To my good luck, I made a usb installer 2 weeks ago to install MacOS Sierra on my brother's computer, I just need to go to his house and borrow his usb. I will follow your advice and make copies of every release of OS X that I have on the purchased section.

Thank You!

IMO, this is just another example of Apple making arbitrary changes to things for no real reason. This change makes no sense, it can no way be spun as an improvement.

For future sake, download High Sierra, after the download, abort the install and create an installation thumb drive... BTW, I have copies of every release of OS X going back to Snow Leopard (10.6.8)... you never know when you'll need/want one.

Instead: set aside a copy, or a backup, of the installer.

It's important to remember that previous versions of OS X installers have an inherent time limit before they will no longer work, as there is a security certificate embedded in them that will eventually expire. When that happens, the installer will no longer function. It stands to reason this will happen to Sierra, as well. As a result, making a backup is still a good practice, but it will not permanently solve this problem. As it stands right now, I can still re-download Lion through El Capitan and get a new version of the installer with a current certificate to reinstall. That can no longer be accomplished with Sierra, unless Apple makes a direct link to it on the App Store that can be used to access it in the future.
