Lol. Definitely not! To us nerds, it may be an overall better device, but to the average Joe, Apple devices are the only thing they would buy.

Thanks Jamezr. Very balanced view !

By the way your S 7 is that a standard S 7 or is that something you configured to have very little bloatware ?
TouchWiz is bloatware!

My favorite Samsung was a GS4 GE. I wish Samsung and Google would do a GS7 with a Google Edition. Until then, it's Nexus for me.

Hi folks

is the Galaxy S 7 a real threat to iPhone ? how many here would switch ? could I request some one who has really studied the S7 features etc, to reply. Thanks in advance. regards. Subu
Its down to what you want. For me even the old S5 beats the latest iPhones as it allows MicroSD expansion, and has Android+TouchWiz which bring things that even the latest iOS still doesn't so it's an easy choice, for me.

What do you want from your smartphone? A phone that does the average stuff like WhatsApp, Instagram, Snapchat, FB etc...takes decent pics and vids, plays music and does email? Get the iPhone.

Do you want to do all the above plus expand memory, do multiwindow, use the phone to zip/unzip files, work as a storage device for all kinds of formats, widgets in the HS etc... Then get the S7.

There's a place for both like why golf carts and cars coexist. iPhone, like a golf cart, is very minimal in features and functionality so simpler to grasp. Galaxy S7 is more versatile and capable like a car but has a higher learning curve. What it boils down to is the non-tech savvy prefer iPhone while Galaxy S7 is more for the tech savvy audience who want to maximize the use of their device. My grandparents are much more comfortable with iPhone but for me it's too limited and restrictive like trying to get on the freeway with a golf cart.

Dont underestimate just how good Touchwiz is getting with each iteration. I thought it was great on the Note 4 but on my S7 it is amazingly lean and very very fast.

It's not just Touchwiz, but also excess carrier software as well - in my case AT&T here in the US. Not to mention the slow updates from said carrier.

Sorry im from Australia on the Telstra network, No real bloatware on our phones. I just use Package disabler to disable any bloat anyway. The slow updates are a downside but i find the OS that most Android phones are released on are often better optimised to the hardware then newer updates anyway. Also by the time a significant update comes out im onto my next phone anyway (12 month plan) For example my S7 has Marshmallow, by the time Android N is released the Note 6 will be out and ill upgrade to that :)

Even when I was an android and Windows phone user I was never a fan of Samsung devices, but they have really been knocking it out of the park with the S6 and S7 versions. With that said like was mentioned earlier the biggest threat to the iPhone (and Samsung also) are the mid-range android phones. It's very easy to get a phone the average consumer will be pleased with at a significantly less price point than the Apple/Samsung flagships. This is a path I've considered taking with my family because I have a 128gb 6S+ and my wife has a 64gb 6+ that we love, but they are really expensive.

* thanks everyone who answered. many ppl have complained about the bloat ware... does the android marshmellow, better processor, 32 GB storage (on base model), metallic body, half an hour under water etc change the equation ...
* mildredop has answered one question ...hmm..

Processors in iOS devices are custom designed by Apple. Samedung might use a higher clocked CPU, but it's not better.

Thanks Jamezr. Very balanced view !

The poster you quoted doesn't understand that all Samedungs have bloat ware. Touchwize.

Short answer, no. They are not a threat. Especially since Apple now has normal sized screens.

I haven't been able to play around with an Edge at stores yet and am worried that the curved edges would make it a little difficult to use certain apps and games. Do you know if that holds true?
Nope, I've never encountered any edge misspress Issues. ..

How can you be ethical and like Samsung ? They flat out stole display technology from Pioneer, and then drug it out so long with counter suits and appeals, Pioneer had to settle for pennies on the dollar, and no longer does TVs. They've had incidents with Dyson, multiple incidents with LG, another chip maker, and of course Apple.

Let's not get into the accusations brought against their CEOs. (It's hearsay, but there is some truth behind it).

I don't think the S7 is a threat to the iPhone its just iterative. It going to take something big to pull people out of their chosen ecosystem.

I just upgraded to the iPhone 6S Plus and I wouldn't switch, also because I own an Apple Watch. If I hadn't had an Apple Watch and I had to choose again, I'm not sure I would've gone with the iPhone this time around..

What do you think of giant tech corps paying 1% corporation tax due to rooting all their accounts through Luxembourg as an example. . Not very morally ethical would you say.. or is that acceptable as you possibly like the products they make?

I bet a bunch of you guys would switch the second you tried gear vr and went into the old school Midway arcade and stood in front of some of your favorite old arcades and played them like you are literally standing in front of them.

Samsung also worked closely with arm to develop and built arms big little architecture and Samsung is using its own custom cores now .it's also using its own ssd flash storage that is ufs2.0 compliant and no other phones are using that because it's made and developed by Samsung.

Any carrier or manufacturer-forced software that delays the update of the OS is "bloatware". Touchwiz, by this definition, is bloatware. Samsung hasn't even gotten the monthly security patching out within a month of release, my Nexus 6P (which is a very nice piece of hardware if I must say) just installed the MARCH security update, as well as some kernel improvements that should make the phone a little snappier as if it wasn't speedy enough. What patch level are all your Samsung devices on, have they started releasing the 2016 monthly patch levels yet?

The problem is that when some folk have preached a certain bible for soooooooo long, it doesn't matter when the new testament pops up and is better in every way, they feel as if they can't step off their pedestal ever, due to the reaction of family and friends. .. they will feel foolish for bigging something up so much, then making an about turn. , then matter how much they secretly want to.. and let's be fair, they all secretly want to.. I know it, you know it.. and more importantly. . They know it..

You know who you are.. just do it my friends.. just do it. .!!!

What these companies are doing, is it within the law? If so, then this becomes another discussion.

No, wouldn't make a difference. Friends of ours have a restored arcade in their basement...

If your life is so meaningless and petty that it's defined by the phone you use, I pity your meager existence.

The S7/S7 edge is a threat to the iPhone when it comes to being labeled as the top ranked. But as far as sales are concerned, no threat as of yet. Just a loss of bragging rights.

For Apple's sake, they better knock it out the park with the iPhone 7. I look forward toward to what they will announce.
