I can't find it at the moment but there's a thread around here somewhere for all the people who are 100% happy to post in. And I was one of them.

I've not got the 24", just the 20" iMac and I love it. It's fantastic and apart from a few minor Leopard niggles/bugs it's been plain-sailing since the day I've bought it.

Make the jump- you know you wanna :D

Sure worth it. I've got mine about two months now and I love it all the way!
Only issue I had (loosing airport connection once in a while) was fixed with the Leopard 10.5.3 update.

I've been looking at iMacs. I've been having just about the same feelings as the initial post in this thread. Thought this was a very good thread and decided I'd register. I've always worked on Windows based machines and am lockd into XP at work. I'm needing a new home system and Vista seems like such a patched together resource hog so I started looking at Macs. I've been very impressed with both the 20 and 24 inch iMacs I've looked at in stores. The iLife software appears to provide a pretty well integrated package meeting most average users daily needs. I do use some specialized software that has now been ported to OS-X, so that's no longer a deal killer. Yet when I read the forums I see all kinds of issues with "white vs aluminum iMacs," various screen issues, etc. And I do know that when you start looking at user forums you mostly see complaints and problems. Indeed, sometimes I wonder why anyone buys technology. So I've not taken the plunge. I think the posts in this thread have maybe put me over the edge. Now I need to decide between the 20 and 24 inch.

Over the years, I've done the following for a friend who is hesitant to switch.

If they are interested in an iMac, for example. I make them this offer. If they purchase a version that I would want, if after 30 days they no longer want their iMac, I will buy if from them at their cost. No questions asked. So basically they get a 30 day free trial. The only catch is they must get one configured like I want -- which for most they are very happy with the setup.

I started doing this in 1986.

While I don't do it often, I have yet to have 1, as in one, take me up on the buyback offer. :)

I have been a Macintosh user for sixteen years; my first Mac was an SE I usd to lay out my HS paper on. Since then, I have owned so many I stopped counting.

I currently own a second generation Al iMac and it is a simply wonderful machine, with absolutely no problems. I also have a workhorse MacBook which I take all over the country and run shows from, which has never let me down.

So pretty please, with sugar on top: buy the effen iMac already.

Absolutely. Same boat: 16 years of Macs, too many to count, and loving my Al iMac. I did, however, jump on the first generation, and it's been flawless. (Considering I spent close to $4000 on the first gen, 22 inch Cinema Display back in the day, getting a 24 inch iMac for $1800 wasn't that much of a gamble for me ;))

Seriously, it's a great computer, dead silent with a great display and plenty of power. What's not to love?

it came all the way from Shanghai, China. I thought for sure something would be broken along the way, but it came in one piece, and two boxes.
Wow, China?
I thought the ones from China usually got messed up.
I was going to ask for one from the USA.

Bottom line, don't let the negative comments here keep you from getting what you want.
I think that's a good piece of advice.
And also, your right, there is alot of people hear complaining, but just from this thread, I can tell that there are alot of happy iMac users out there which makes me feel comfortable.

Having said that, I normally tell friends to be cautious about first generation models, since they are more likely to have problems, and even then, Apple and their affiliated service centers are very good about making things right.

So pretty please, with sugar on top: buy the effen iMac already.
Hahaa! I think after the replies that I've gotten on this thread, I'm going to take the plunge. :p

Have you regretted not getting the 24in at all?
The bigger the better in my eyes.

Oh, well welcome to Mac Rumors!
I'm glad my thread made you decide to join.

We pretty much have the same issue I guess.
I agree also, that with these replies, I'm also going to empty my bank account and purchase my iMac.
I can't wait.

I'm literally having dreams about it and waking up thinking about it on my desk.
I'm a nerd. :p

Wow.
If I had the money to do that, I would totally do it!
Sounds like a cool idea.

I wouldn't buy one of the new iMacs. The glossy display is a deal-killer for me. And the 20" panel is out of the questions, regardless of glossy/matte. Just too poor of technology.
Luckily, the glossy screen is not an issue for me.
And I'm also a photographer and it still doesn't bother me.

It makes sense that you will see a lot of posts about problems with Macs--after all, that is one big reason a lot of Mac users visit this forum. But you will also find many posts--even in some of the somewhat negative threads--from Mac users who love their Macs and have had no problems with them. I am certainly one of those Mac fans--I love my iMac and have had no issues with it. So if you want that iMac--go out ad get it!

The real world problems with iMacs are just like peoples' grammar here on the forums. For each person that posts with their horrendous grammar and spelling on the forums, there are thousands of "real world" people speaking perfectly normal and proper English.

Yeah, I know what you mean.

Just my "unique" way of looking at things. :p

This is an incomplete sentence fragment. Where's the subject?

I could have started at the beginning of your post and offered grammatical corrections for almost every sentence but I decided to restrict it to this last sarcastic zinger. :D

I think it is also important to note that a lot of folks who post to these forums do not speak English as their primary language.

just buy it you have nothing to loose and if you dont like it ther is a 14day return no questions asked

plus you are goignto get apple care if it turns out to be a lemon get it replaced.

While I'm ecstatic that your grammar is up to par, I in no way, shape or form meant to start a debate on the logistics of why people speak the way they do on MacRumors. Although, while there are plenty of ESL's on here, there are also a ton of teenagers who think that typing like a "1337 h4x0r" is cool.

However, I congratulate you on your ability to correct my subpar grammar skills... we definitely need more people like you on here :)

Yeah, I know what you mean.

Those peeps I have no problem with.

It's fairly easy to tell the difference between a non-native speaker and someone with terrible grammar. The non-native speakers try a helluva lot harder.

So sad.

It's a gosh darn cotton picking conspiracy. That's what it is! If Apple would make the doggone grammar checker better on them iMac 20" models we wouldn't have all this riff raff sounding stuff floating around these parts. Thank the silicon gods that they saw fit to make the 24" better at grammar checking.

:D Haha.

Actually, with out Safari's spell check, I would for sure be put into the category of annoying typers on MR. :p

computers can only do so much - guess thats how the phrase GIGO (garbage in garbage out) got started :(

Hold one....Let me take off my hick straw hat and put on my Apple certified propeller cap....One moment while I spin it up to the proper RPM!

Ok, on speed and ready now (imagine a voice like Mr Howell on Gilligans Island)...

"In response to your comment regarding Safari spell checking. In actual fact it is the OS X built-in spell checker that Safari is using, not a Safari specific feature." EOL

The propeller cap has been feathered. Straw hat reinstalled. You may all return to your serious discussion.... :)

Though, I'm on a (shhh) windows machine right now.

I'm not to sure if it works the same way.
Either way, works great for me.
