I'm seeing so many disappointed people on here, I'm wondering if the iPad should have never been released. Maybe the netbook people are right and Apple should have just made the iPad a netbook with a lite version of Snow Leopard. As a person still relatively new to Apple products, I'm beginning to think the release of iPad was a big mistake. :(

Is this meant to be taken seriously? Sure there are a few people with small issues with the device, but those are just an extremely small percentage of the owners, most of which seem to be in love with the device.

Quick, you need an exorcism! That demon inside of you is starting to control your thoughts!

Something to be aware of in life is that no matter what you do, some people are going to like it and some people aren't.

Have lines formed anywhere for any netbook launch?

This all feels fairly trollish. How can one question the success of a device when over 1/2 a million have been sold? Business 101.

I wonder if this would happen if the iPad were a netbook clone.

1m sales are bound to create a proportional share of "morning after" regrets. You can't please everyone.

Sorry you feel that way. I am no Apple 'expert' but I do have a fair amount of computer experience. I bought an iPad, both as a toy, as well as a business tool. I have been extremely pleased with it. The more I use it, the more I discover about what it can do, the more I love it. I did not wait for the 3G model, relying only on wifi. Maybe I'll wish later I had waited, but for now, I'm plenty satisfied! In fact, if you really don't want the one you bought, I just might be willing to take it off your hands!

lol

I've watched 3 episodes of 30 Rock with Netflix, Iron Man with Air Video, read a comic book with Marvel, read the first couple pages of a Stephen King novel, done a ton of web surfing, and my battery is at 60% right now.

Mistake? I think that this is one of the coolest and most advanced pieces of technology I've ever owned. Far from regretting the purchase, I can't wait to find something new to do with it.

You should have been here when the iPhone/iPod was released.

Yes, you're probably right. When I hear so many netbook fans say how happy they are with their purchase, plus the ridicule I get for getting an iPad without USB ports, only to come on here and read so many complaints...I was wondering if the iPad Was a mistake.

Yeah, it is a shame. People are disappointed that no iPads are shipped to Europe yet because demand in the USA is so high. People are disappointed that sales are limited to two per person. Lots of disappointment all over the place. And with Microsoft's Courier cancelled, and HP's slate apparently delayed due to complete redesign, it is obvious to anyone except the worst fanbois that the iPad is a huge mistake. Even Microsoft and HP say so. Making a netbook would have avoided all that disappointment, and Apple wouldn't have had all these problems keeping up with demand.

If Apple doesn't stop this immediately and refunds the money to the million or so purchasers, it will be ten times worse in a year when they have ten million disappointed customers. Or in five years with 100 million disappointed customers.

People who ridicule other people's purchases tend to do so because they're insecure about their own choices. Take that kind of thing with a grain of salt.

There is one aspect of the iPad that can be considered a mistake. It is a widely held belief that Apple doesn't mind cannibalizing Apple sales with another Apple product, but I don't think they realize that when I walk in the Apple store now, I see an iMac and think "I wonder if they could make the display dockable so I could carry it around?" or I see a Macbook Pro and think, I might have considered one of these before I got my iPad.

Apple's computer product line is in danger of shrinking to a family of tablets and a family of Mac Minis. The Mac Pro looks so out of place I'm surprised they still devote floor space to it in the retail store.

Now I'm not saying that the iPad I hold in my hands today is a real computer but I can say that I want my next OS X device to be in the iPad form factor unless it's a home theater machine or a desktop and then I'd like a stand for my iPad to use it as the monitor and a bt keyboard and mouse for when I'm using my iPad as if it were merely a display. Then I want to be able to grab the display, still showing whatever I was working on and go sit on the sofa and finish it up using the touchscreen. Can you imagine typing an article or report and getting interrupted when the cab arrives and you simply grab the screen and walk out to the cab and keep working during the ride to the airport and upload it using the wifi in the terminal before you get on the plane?

I visit people in the hospital, I sometimes see them using a laptop in bed. They have to sit up. They can't lie down comfortably and do anything. I've been using my iPad in bed almost every day. It's great for sitting, reclined or standing use. Granted, it can be awkward for some things like typing a lot of text but I can easily sit down and set the Apple case to tilt the device at a comfortable angle for typing a moderate amount of text. For even more text, I have my bluetooth keyboard. We have never had anything in computing with the ergonomics of the iPad. The iPad really is revolutionary. And this is true even though the iPhone OS only supports evolutionary uses of the device as of yet.

Yes, the iPad was a mistake alright. :) It exposed us to what true mobile computing could be like and while I can't speak for others I can say I really like it. So long desktop. So long notebook. So long netbook. Hello tablet.:apple:

Of course it wasn't darlin. Who cares what others say? Tell them to go to blazes and count your blessings you got your "StarTrek" iPad! :D

The iPad is still in its infancy. When Apple released the Apple 2, they used to break Apple 1's because of how terrible they were compared to Apple 2's. Everybody needs to give it some time and have faith in Apple.

That's pure jealousy at work. I was sitting in my car with my iPad and a group of 4 guys started talking "hey that's the iPad" Netbooks don't generate that kind of interest or excitement.

Think about the statement about USB ports. You have a 1.5lb tablet that is light enough to carry around wherever you want. In essence you have "freedom" of movement yet someone is dismissive of your iPad because you're not "chaining" it down with a USB cord? Where does that make sense?

You want storage, Mobileme, Box.net, Zumo etc. You want printing? PrintCentral or Air Sharing Pro will do it wirelessly. You want to import files from a digicam, Camera Connecting Kit or an Eye-fi Wifi SD card.

The iPad represents a change in ideology and yes it is more expensive to cut the cords and move things to wireless access but the benefits are evident. Enjoy your iPad and don't let any hater tell you lies. Over a million people have made the same decision that you have and the vast majority love it.

In fact 3 iPhone developers just this morning have stated they're seeing a BIG bump in their app sales so people are on the App Store loading up their iPads with software.
