Wouldn't surprise me. My next tablet might well be a Samsung, and I doubt I'm the only iPad owner who thinks this way.

yep

I'm buying the galaxy note 8.0...the extra storage is a big plus for me...better option for me than the ipad mini....

Until the tablet app market gets fixed, I dont' see Apple worrying about that.

Also on Flexible displays, there are delays and production issues. Also until their are flexible cpus and other phone parts, it is not as realistic of a venture as some like to think.

Until android apps are able to clearly differentiate between tablet and phone experience the iPad doesn't have too much to worry about. The vast majority of Androud apps still present themselves identically as they would on a phone.

Guess it depends what you are looking for in a tablet I suppose. Nothing will beat my ipad for general internet and app use but for on the go? Galaxy note 8.0 is the best option for me than say the ipad mini.

How explain this.

Is it note taking? Cause other than that, I do not see how an Android tablet is better than an Apple one other than price points. Buying the Nexus 7 over the Mini because of the 100 dollars difference is understandable.

If you are saying you use Note taking so much, that will make a difference.

There is a reason why a lot of Android users here rather have an iPad for a tablet still.

Yes the note taking is a big attraction too...that and the storage. For me that is huge for something I'm taking on the go. My ipad 2 will always be my main tablet at home for browsing the internet using youtube, emails e.t.c...

but the note 8.0 for me is something I would take to work everyday, watch shows on my lunch break and then take it out when i'm away from home...play a few games here and there too.

I just love the idea of the note taking and that will be useful for work too as will transfering excel spreadsheets for my home screen.

as I said it depends what you use it for...

Seems you dont understand that an Android tablet can do a MILLION more things than an Apple iOS one... which cannot be use for serious work.

Many users will beg to differ, its how you 'define' serious work.

I guess surgeons, pilots, captains of ships who use them for navigating or for information purposes whilst working are not doing serious work in your eyes.

Artists & animators who use them with nomad brush and other tools to take sketches, or exhibiting their portfolios are not doing serious work.

Likewise Photographers & designers who need a portable portfolio are not using them for serious work.

Musicians who are using them to control their midi devices and as mixers and other interactive purposes in the studio and live are not doing serious work.

Researchers and historians who use them as databases are not doing serious work.

Stock market analysts and investors / brokers who have them permanently connected to the stock market for on the go updates for their clients are not doing serious work.

Yeah... Carry on, clearly only you on an android tablet are capable of doing serious work :rolleyes:

Typing on my iPad is a nightmare. Taking notes in class or in a meeting is an exercise in utter futility. The inability to easily load files on and off the device is a burden, too.

It's true. Trying to do any serious work on the iPad is incredibly frustrating.

The iPad, to me, is best used only as an entertainment device. This is where it shines. Games and web browsing and watching content on the go is all I ever do with my iPad.

I'm still not convinced Android tablets are up to snuff yet, so for the most part I'm enjoying my iPad for what I use it for, but this year's Nexus 7 may change my mind.

They arent in trouble until they have an OS and ecosystem for the tablet thats equal to iOS. Software is equally, if not more important than hardware.

Are there an practical uses for a flexible display other than the gimmick factor? In order for the finished product to be bendable, the internals will also have to be bendable which I'm pretty sure we're not there yet. Plus having a bendable display on a tablet doesn't give Samsung a leg up on the iPad at all. I'd rather have a high end iPad note type of offering like Samsung before I had a bendable tablet.

Yea, there's definitely room for improvement on both. Google cloud services doesn't have anything like iTunes Match.

Google music allows you to host 20,000 songs for free and for a while now has added a matching service to reduce uploads required. The difference is that unlike iTunes Match, it is free and offers significantly higher bitrate (320kbps)

I dislike android OS so no I'm not worried.

Then why are you posting in a thread about Samsung/Android in a subforum called "Alternatives to iOS and iOS Devices" which is in fact 95% dedicated to Android devices?

----------

They are taking about a display that could very possibly end up in Apple products.

Given the current state of the relationship between Samsung and Apple I don't think we'll see anymore Samsung screens in new Apple products (evidenced by the fact that Apple is starting to use lower quality LG screens - rMBP)

I always thought that, in the tablet arena, iOS is far and above all the competition. It works so well as a tablet OS, more so than a phone OS I think. When I first saw the iPad I thought it was some kind of a joke. But I ate my words, and happily. I depend on that thing for so much stuff between school, work, and just catching up with friends or watching a movie.

I got kind of annoyed with the iPhone for a few reasons and so I switched, but my iPad has never let me down. I'm still rocking the 2, I can't wait for the next one to come out and then I'll upgrade.

Hahaha good one :D:D:D but I maintain what I said.

An accessible file browser is the main feature I consider a necessity to be able to do serious work. Without it your limited and having to find workarounds or just being unable to do certain stuff.

Apart from that there are many many more things, but we all know them. No need to repeat them in every android vs ios debate.

I'll say android tablets are far from perfect. I myself have a nexus 10 which I'm not happy with AT ALL, but I keep it because it can do, like I said, a million more things that ios can't.

'Serious work,' 'limited and having to find workarounds,' 'do certain stuff,' 'many more things,' 'million more things.' All such vague terminology. You can't do serious work on it, but many millions can. The thing is, tablets right now are productivity devices and chosen to do 'serious work' because of their mobility.

But if you can't do 'serious work' no one is condemning you. As you shouldn't condemn an iPad owner for using it to do 'serious work.' I'll agree, a file system should have been implemented ages ago in iOS. But I fear they never will b/c of their whole philosophy.

So you all actually believe that iOS is the end all? Android and Samsung are making strides with every release. Remember no one is tied to technology so if Samsung has better engineers they will have better tablets. My son just picked up the Sam gal an I think it's a quality device. I am very interested to see how apple will match with theses newer product hitting the streets.
On thing is certain apple can't depend on its current plan because although millions of people are listening to music and taking pictures with iPhones, ... That ain't gonna last.

Look at the reality.

iPad tablet apps keep getting better, while Android just sits there and Samsung tries to make up for it with the S Pen, and the S related apps. The Moleskine app flopped BIG time.

It's the apps for me as well.

Yea I thought the Nexus 7 was the ultimate until I bought my iPad and downloaded all the same apps. On the Android side, all they did was use the phone apps and upscale them for the tablets. I had maybe five apps that had Android tablet versions.

It's just amazing how much devs care about iOS more.

I find typing on my iPad 100% better than trying to type on the Nexus 7. I had so many problems with trying to type something and the key below or above would get typed instead and I know I was clearly hitting the letter I intended.

I thought I cold use it for note taking but it was a disaster. I also tried the PC keyboard and had no luck on the Nexus.

I find that the iPad keyboard types the letters that I actually press. I may tru my BT keyboard to see how it works out.
