yep, i think the ipad is in great trouble because of the latest samsung's tablets, especially the note 8 an the recently unveiled ativ Q. apple should step up their game or it won't take long for samsung to dethrone ipad as the king of the tablet industry.

Samsung has announced like 10 tablets in the last month
The new Android Tabs, plus some new Windows 8 now.
This is another problem for Samsung. They are diluting the market too much. When Joe or Jane six pack want an ipad. There is either a big ipad or a small ipad. Easy for Joe Sixpack. Then their techy neighbor tells them they should get a samsung tablet because they are way better. They go down to the local best buy and ask to see Samsungs little tablet and their big tablet. Best Buy employee show them the stack of 10 different tablets all with slight differences. Joe Sixpack leaves confused.
Well, I am amazed Microsoft windows is still alive. People must have forgot they are not using a heavily restricted OS.
Personally, windows 8 pro on efficient hardware kills every other toy tablet to me. Heck I would tolerate android on my phone simply because it is very small to do a lot of serious stuff, but on a 10 inch screen? I would go a full blown OS. I hope MS can continue down this path and hardware like baytrail and has well is a great support to that effort. If I can use a windows 8 (not rt) tablet for 10 hours straight, no way Am i going to buy an ipad or a galaxy tab or a play book or a nexus tablet or a kindle. Never.
The regular joe's don't even "need" any tablets by the way. For majority they are still a luxury, and an ipad is the coolest of them all so obviously it will always sell the best.
Me too lol. Considering how well the first iPad mini did in terms of sales and the fact Apple are consistent on release prices, I think we can expect the Mini 2 to be on par with its predecessor. If it was too expensive it would never have sold so well.
I'm talking about device sales not which one is better. I have an iPad mini and used to own a nexus 7. Just like you I sold my nexus 7 after I bought my mini. I don't think much of the nexus 7 personally but it's cheap and so it will appeal to the masses. I have a friend in college, who is always cooing over my iPad mini. Yet she came to me the other day and asked which tablet she should get the kindle fire HD or the nexus 7. She wanted the base model (16 GB) as she didn't want to spend a lot of money. She said that she wanted an iPad mini but couldn't pay that much.
The majority of People will go for the cheaper device. This same girl lost her phone last year, it was a HTC I don't remember the model. She was still in contract so bought a Samsung galaxy ace to tide her over until she could renew. She kept saying she was going to get the iPhone but ended up getting the S4 last month because it was free, whereas she would have had to pay for the iPhone.
For me you've hit the nail on the head. It's the experience that is most important. Android may have all its specs and power but Apple has the better experience by far.

Not out of the realm of possibility considering both the retina screen and the lower price points have been rumored and consider what Apple's recently done with their other lines (particularly the rMBP. They saw a price drop roughly half a year in).
Expecting an iPad Mini 2 with a cheaper price and a retina display is similar to people who were expecting the GS4 not to be made of plastic. Except with the iPad Mini 2, it is even more far off.
With the rMBP there was a huge price difference, let's not forget that. Even after the mid-cycle price drop they are still more expensive.
Apple won't put a retina display in the iPad Mini 2 for the same reasons they didn't put it into the new MBA. Compromised battery life, harder to produce, and will raise the price for what Apple considers their entry level product. Sorry, its just not going to happen.
Yeah, don't get me wrong -- I'm not holding my breath. New Nexus 7, then, if the iPad Mini 2 doesn't pan out.
I am waiting on the same thing. My iPad 3 is feeling really slow. But I may just wait for a new Nexus 10 because I use my iPad for typing a lot and would prefer a tablet that offers closer to a full sized keyboard.
I'm worried that Google will give us crap storage again.
I know they offer the 8GB storage to keep prices low, but why not also offer higher storage at higher prices as an option? I'm not asking to give me more storage at the $199 price point -- fine, keep that 8GB. But why not give us a 32GB option at $299 for those that want it?
I hope they also learn their lesson with launches (the debacle that were the Nexus 7 and Nexus 4 launches makes me shudder). Make enough. They should know by now that demand will be high for the new Nexus 7.

The Windows version of the app store is a curated platform, AFAIK. If I'm wrong, I stand corrected. And can someone tell me if Microsoft allows you to download whatever app you want to Windows 8? They probably do, but does that hardware have to be compatible with the the new processors?
Yes on full windows 8 (not RT), you can install stuff like you did on win 7.

Well you see I have a MBP and I use pages, pages syncs between my ipad and my MBP.
In my country we dont have play books or any other services besides apps and music. With the iPad I have access to all of Apples services, another win. tablet specific apps. Android severely lacks with this stuff.So yes IT IS BETTER, for me.
Google will do the same, in fact contact, calendar and email sync perfect between desktop, phone and tablet But I agree that if you have a MacBook you should have an IPAD and iPhone.
