12.1.1b3 felt really polished to me (XS on Verizon). So much so that I restored off the public beta and back to the main 12.1.

Fingers crossed they push out 12.1.1 next week. Holiday week - so I am not sure - but wishful thinking.

Why downgrade if it felt so polished. Or is that sarcasm?

I honestly would like to see it go through another beta or two before GM. Just simply to make sure that this issue is as resolved as it can be before a final.

There’s definitely still issues. I’m on the third beta as well, and yes, connectivity has much improved, but Apple still has a way to go.

I’m still having issues with the phone showing bars of service without any data connection intact. Text messages don’t go through, apps come up with “no connection found” error messages, and Safari can’t load pages. Is this happening much less often than before? Definitely. Is it still happening enough to notice though? For sure.

Apple’s making incremental improvements, and they’re working, but they’re still just that: incremental. My phone’s much more usable than it was on 12.1, that’s for sure.

Had this same issue yesterday although it has been very rare for me. Running the beta 3 and had two bars of LTE on AT&T in the Phoenix area, but no data. Lasted about 30-45 seconds before there was a change.

For those not on beta’s we only had one main software update in 2 months to address reception issues. For those of us on the IUP we only have 10 more months for a hardware change.

It probably will be the best phone Apple has ever made.

Hang in there ...
I have generally updated every year. Getting burned by the poor reception issue this year, I will definitely not jump in at launch next year.

I think I will. Typically iPhones hardware didn’t have the same problem two generations in a row.

I am confident that Apple is aware of the feedback and issues. They will have a higher focus on the topic and are currently already researching improvements for 2019.

They may introduce something else not working well, but reception should be better.

I think at this point, the fact these phones are or aren't having problems isn't the issue. The Issues have all been established. Now it's just finding out if Beta 3 is resolving phones with issues.

I think you'd be better off putting this in the Apple Watch section to get a better response. I feel for you though and agree with Vinegarshots - sounds like you got a faulty phone or watch. Do you have AppleCare? If you do, surely Apple in Chile will honor that fix or replace the phone. ahhh... they don't sell the phone in Chile yet???

I'm hoping that Beta 3 can resolve the issues for people on this thread and that will give us waiting the green light to grab a max. I'm coming around to the XR for the camera portrait mode though. It's stonkingly good.
thanks for your reply, Chile are saling the phone since 3 weeks ago, but apple said my iphone model A1921 must to be send in USA... :( I pair my aw with an iphone 6 and works perfect

I'm dumping AT&T tomorrow because of what you describe. transferred most of my lines to T-Mobile this weekend and so far the service is much better.

So long time lurker on this specific thread. I had the X since launch day last November. The X for me always had LTE & Wi-Fi connectivity issues, dropped calls, Bluetooth issues and Apple CarPlay connectivity issues. All of this has gotten worse with iOS 12.

I wanted the upgrade to the XS Max since they came out, love a bigger screen. But I have been holding out due to this thread...but I finally gave out and upgraded to the XS Max this past Friday.

Let me tell you, this phone has great LTE connectivity, Wi-Fi connects great & stays on the 5 GHZ signal better than my X did. Speed has greatly improved over my X. With my X my LTE Download speeds would be about 9 Mbps download and a pitiful 0.91 Mbps Upload. Now on my XS Max I'm pulling in 70-100 Mpbs download and over 20 Mbps upload on LTE. This is all on AT&T, iOS 12.1.

I posted this in the other thread but will ask this thread as well:

I currently have an iPhone 7 and I really want the XS, but these reception issues and this thread really makes me hesitant. Is it really that bad??

I was also looking at the XR, which supposedly doesn't have these issues, but I like the XS much better, since I value a good camera and screen. That being said, I probably value reception and connectivity the most since use my phone mostly for internet and video streaming (7-10GB/mo even outside of Wifi).

It'll be really hard for me to justify paying an extra $250 just for a better camera and screen, but have to deal with not able to use the phone b/c of reception.

FYI - I'm on Verizon and travel between the Philly, NYC and Boston areas

I live in NYC and had Verizon until last week. The latest betas were making it perfectly reliable for me (I switched to T-Mobile for the cheaper price, so far I’m thrilled with service). Give it a try, you have two weeks to return.

Too funny as my experience was just the opposite. Glad you are happy with your new phone.

I decided to sign up for the 12.1.1 beta. First think I noticed was the carrier update is Verizon 35.0.2 on the beta vs 34.0.1 for 12.1. Another point of information is the iPad Pro 11 has Verizon 34.1 for the carrier. Performance seems improved. It will be interesting to see if data stops working after a few days as it did under 12.1.

In the end, my problem may be as much Verizon as the iPhone XS Max. I was expecting Verizon to have better service than AT&T in the San Francisco Bay Area. It's hard to make a determination if its the services vs device when the device has known issues.

For reference, the areas where service is consistently not working on Verizon with iPhone XS Max, but did on AT&T with iPhone X:
  • San Mateo Whole Foods Shopping Complex and Hillsdale business in the area
  • Downtown Redwood City Century Theaters
  • Palo Alto Shopping Center Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus

This is exactly what keeps happening to me on my XR. And it's getting frustrating. If I didn't notice it for a couple hours, then I'd go that amount of time without getting any texts.

I don't have the XS but on my Sprint iPhone X iOS 12.1.1 beta 3 helped tremendously. Wifi no longer drops out in my basement like it used to and download speeds have almost tripled. In my house I used to get 5-10 mbps on a good day. Now in the same spot im pulling 30-40 mbps. The beta also came with a carrier update as well so that probably helped alot too. Anyone having connectivity issues should try 12.1.1 and see if that helps.

A lot of people don't like installing "test" software on their main phone/device. I'll wait until they release it.
I agree and normally I'm one of them. This is the first beta software I've ever installed only because I heard it helped with connectivity issues and so far so good, no issues yet. But I completely understand waiting until the official release.
