I was at Disneyland week before last and will be waiting for your feedback. Connectivity on cellular was terrible. Main issue was coming out of a no signal area phone would not reconnect without rebooting phone. Even in some open air areas I would have no signal and my wife and daughters 7+’s did. I returned my XS Max upon my return. My 2nd phone has worked perfectly in every way but, I live in the San Francisco area where coverage is good. I haven’t ventured outside my area since received the new phone. I have gone into buildings I know have poor cellular connectivity but, phone has been perfect.
I experienced the same issues you are stating on my previous Max at Disneyland as well. The other people with me had good reception but I did not.
Will report back on my Disney experience with this new Max in a few weeks from now.

Here's a video that states that the LTE connectivity issue isn't fixed in iOS 12.1 Beta 3. The comment starts at about 2:05. He theorizes that the problem is due to the Intel modem firmware, which may not be correct.

If LTE connectivity were "fixed" right now, it would be rolled out in an update similar to the charging fix update-- they wouldn't leave it stuck in the beta until the full 12.1 release.

I have not had data roaming enabled on any of the three Maxs I've had.
Really? IMO, that should always be on unless traveling internationally. I think it could make a difference as it may ignore tower/bands.

I dont know if this has any impact, but does everyone have data roaming enabled under cellular in the settings?
Great question. I thought I had asked this. Even when on, I have seen IOS updates turn it off. Should always be on unless traveling internationally. Not going to be charged roaming domestically.

Oh, I didn't know this.
I do restore from new every time and I think the default is "Off" but I'm not exactly sure.
I will have to look into this since, I have had it off all the time but yeah, as you say, not really an issue unless you go international.
Well that posted weird.
Guess I'm not feeling better yet after all lol
My reply to PBx is included in the Quote for some strange reason.

Possibility is there. Qualcomm are the modem people not Intel. So immediately we’re at a disadvantage. But this seems to be a firmware or software issue and hopefully APPLE WILL CORRECT IT SOON

I did notice a difference with data roaming off. I had it off too. Last week I was visiting family in another state, and at my sister's house I was constantly dropping to 3G and sometimes losing connection. I turned on data roaming and it jumped to 2 bars LTE and I didn't drop back to 3G or no signal.

We as customers just neeed to push Apple to make peace with Qualcomm. Q are the industry leaders and if the iPhone is also to be an industry leader it needs to have industry leading CELLULAR CONNECTIVITY.

I agree because they were quick to release 12.0.1 to fix the wifi issue. So if there was a way to fix the LTE issues, they would have released 12.0.2 by now.

I think that ship has likely left port. I do agree they will eventually settle, but it sounds to me like Apple has fully funded Intel for all their future modems (at least for now) regardless of what Qualcomm does. Both of these companies are so greedy in that they couldn't come to any sort of agreement. Qualcomm is in hot water in many countries right now it seems.

Also everyone keeps making this out to be about the intel chipset and not one single solitary shred of evidence to prove that.

I agree but customers are paying for the spat with poor cellular connectivity. Business is business. Like politics, many times you just have to settle, compromise, what have you. I want Qualcomm guts in my phone. They are much better than Intel in this space. My 7 has intel has I’ve been paying for that for over 2 years with poor reception at home and in general.

Why should it be on?
To not eliminate towers that can be accessed. When traveling you may want to turn it off. If you are concerned ask your carrier if you are charged roaming fees. My guess is that, at least in U.S., you aren’t.
[doublepost=1539542770][/doublepost]FWIW, I’m been with TMO, VZN & ATT & have always had roaming enabled for voice and data. Never been charged roaming fees.

The only problem with your assumption is that Apple changed the antenna array setup this year and the FCC report indicates that is likely the issue. So, again the assumption that it's the intel chipset is just that, no evidence to support that is actually the case. If you want Qualcomm you are going to need to go to Android it's as simple as that. By the way I don't disagree with you, I think Apple and Qualcomm should have worked this out and we all want the best chipsets in our phones.

It will be crazy if that turns out to be part of the reason. I thought I had asked this earlier in thread. I don’t understand why Apple defaults it to off in U.S.
Problems use to arise in the past when people got their bills with data roaming charges from other smaller carriers before the big 4 built out their networks. That's why they always had it turned off. Now they all have agreements to share towers, and it's meaningless. Most of those smaller carriers along with their networks were bought out by Verizon and AT&T.

Until you hit a docked ferry and get charged $10/MB. That Netflix episode just cost you $3300.

Did that happen to you? I’ve lived at the ocean and been near ports for 20+ years and never an issue. I don’t d/l Netflix over cellular so there’s that.

I just called my carrier, Verizon. The CS rep told me I would not be charged any roaming fees in the US if I have roaming turned on. In fact, he said Verizon recommends it be on. Funny thing though, I turned it on and cellular connectivity was slower and faster when I switched it off. I’m going to leave it on for now and see how it goes.
