I think for $329 to get an iPad that works with Apple Pencil and has the A10 is a bargain.

I’m guessing there will be a lot of iPad Pro 12.9 owners who already have the Pencil that pick this up as a smaller, secondary iPad.

I agree. A snoozer of a up date. Could of saved the money they used for the 'show' and cut the cost of the ipad more. Innovation would of been making the ipad extra durable, a Tonka tough Ipad for kids.

Also what's the point of 'Pro' nomenclature now? All the same gut's just bigger screens.

Ok, so imagine Apple of actually saved the money by not ofing staged the show... how much lower would they of set the price? probably not a great deal, really.

I wished Apple would have released a matte black iPad or a glassed back iPad that would have been so cool.

This thing just cut 50% off the price of the 9.7" iPad Pro and outperforms it. It was only two years ago the 9.7" iPad Pro was selling for $599. For Apple, this is a big move.

iPad (2018) will be cannibalizing the 10.5" product until summer when the refresh comes out. Even with Face ID, I think many will settle for the $329 product.

I doubt it Out performs an A9X and it’s GPU. It’s has an A10 and unknown GPU. But that doesn’t matter the people who Got Shafted who bought a 2017 5th Gen IPad really got the short end of the stick. I’d be furious
Less than 11 month later and for less money than last years non Pro that are essentially getting a 9.7” Pro IPad minus the Quad Speakers.

We bought one and we're quite happy with it. Note, it's actually 12 months, not 11. Besides, yearly refreshes are to be expected. If you keep waiting for better, you won't ever buy anything.

We bought the iPad 5th gen because we just couldn't stand another year of using the iPad 3. Even if I knew last year that Apple would release a $329 iPad with A10 and Pencil support the following year, we would still have made the same decision to buy the iPad 5th gen. Also, why is GPU unknown? It's an A10 so it's just gonna be the same as the one used on the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. Apple's not gonna expend effort and resources to create a chip that's only used on the budget iPad.

It's amazing how some people are like, "Wow! This is basically an iPad Pro from a couple of years ago for way less. People who got the 2017 are shafted!"

And other people are like, "Wow! It's just last year's iPad with a 1 generation improvement in processor, and Pencil support that most people don't care about. What a non-upgrade!"

Obviously it all depends on each person's perspective. What they want/need and what they expect. Personally I think it's a bit of both. It's a good upgrade for a lot of people but I personally wouldn't feel bad if I had gotten the 2017 model. If you're not interested in the Pencil, it's just a faster version.

I purchased the iPad Pro 10.5 late last month and a week after I got it I started to hear the rumors of the iPad refresh, I returned it and I'm glad I did. I'm not a power user and would never take pics with my iPad so the new refresh with the A10X chip at 1/2 the price of the Pro is exactly what I was hoping for. Actually was hoping for a refresh of the Mini but I'll take this too!

It's an A10, not A10X, but I doubt that will matter to you if you consider the Pro overkill.

Technically, this is pretty much last year's iPad but with A10 and Pencil support. Doesn't make it a bad product. Just one that those who already have the iPad 5th gen probably aren't buying (although really, the average user doesn't upgrade every year anyway).

For those who held off on upgrading their iPad Air or older last year, this makes for an excellent upgrade.

Right, that's sort of what I was trying to say. It's a matter of perspective.

Many tech enthusiasts feel that every release has to be targeted at them, and give them a reason to upgrade every year. That's not the plan for most people. With tablets, and increasingly with smartphones as well, people go years between upgrades, so there doesn't have to be a huge leap every single year. Heck, look at the Mini 2 to Mini 3!

Noted on the processor. I'm torn over the laminated display. I do intend on doing a fair amount of media viewing. I'm sure the display on the new iPad will be fine.

I know what you mean. I’m coming from a mini 4 and I’m most concerned about missing the laminated display, but I’m sure I’ll get used to it.

Don't worry about it. We have iPads with and without at our house and honestly I don't see much difference. Laminated display is a fingerprint magnet that bothers me more than reflections. Maybe that would be different if I'd use it outdoors a lot, but I don't.

Ugh, that one was absolutely disappointing. I was planning on getting a Mini with A8 back in 2014. Alas, that didn't materialize until 2015.

I just wish that Logitech Pencil to be usable on our iPad Pros too!

That Pencil practically fixed all my pain points with Apple's

I notice a big difference in using my wife's iPad and my iPad Pad (10.5). I can't put my finger on it, but it does look different, but also the feel is much different. If you don't have an IPP, you'll never notice but I notice it if I go back and forth
