FaceID is not going anywhere.

The question is; will they introduce in screen TouchID to complement it.

Doubtful. It’s redundant and unnecessary to have two forms of biometric screening on a mobile device. They already have said time and again Face ID is more secure. Additionally in this era of $1k flagships, I’m guessing they are looking at ways to cut costs and increase margins given the pricing complaints. That’s my guess why 3D Touch is on the way out. Easy cost cutter with (debatably) the same function via haptic touch. I for one have no problems with Face ID and don’t think we need to go back in time. Also looking forward to iOS 13, as they claimed fasted Face ID unlock by up to 30%.

Logic says, your motorbike helmet completely conceals your face and the face shield likely has too dark of a tint where the IR sensor cannot penetrate your eyes to successfully unlock it. That’s not a Face ID issue.

You will find disabling auto lock extremely helpful here, especially when you ride a motorbike.

I too hope FaceID stays, far better than TouchID in my opinion. Can’t wait to upgrade my iPad to FaceID model.

Personally, I can't wait until they upgrade the MacBook Pros to FaceID. The older Touch ID seems so clunky now.

Apple might be planning to ditch Face ID in iPhones
Fast Company

That’s according to a report from the China Times that quotes an analyst at investment firm Credit Suisse in Asia who says Apple will begin phasing out its Face ID biometric authentication system in iPhones starting in 2020. The analyst believes that next year Apple will release one new model of iPhone without the notch or Face ID, instead opting to go with an under-screen front camera and full-screen acoustic fingerprint authentication—essentially a new version of Touch ID. My only experience with face ID is with my current HP laptop, which works fine indoors, but when I'm in our sunroom which is much brighter, the face ID doesn't work most of the time. I understand that Apple's Iphone face ID may be different, improved. I recently upgraded my Iphone 6s to an Iphone 8, because it was the last model to have touch ID. However, if touch ID is not available in the future, I will still buy an Iphone, I'm just hooked on their IOS system and their phones.

The ghost of Steven p. Jobs is pleased.

I hope this isn’t true. Face ID works seamlessly whereas an under screen Touch ID sounds very Androidy

It needs to be reiterated: The gains of having two forms of biometric recognition on a single device are minimal. If you have the exact contour of your face, you likely also have your fingerprint.

My guess is they'll do one or the other.

So I’ve been hearing a lot of rumors lately about Apple working on a new all screen Touch ID for future iPhones.
Is it here to replace the Face ID or to come along with it as an extra? Because I really love Face ID and o hate the Touch ID due to sweaty hands, it will be a shame if they roll back like that.

And I’m not talking about the new China not models mess, but the international standard one

Ultrasonic Under Glass Touch ID will replace Farce ID in all models by 2021.
Remember this post. ;)

Face ID is much more natural than Touch ID.

It cuts screen touches in half for any compatible app. TBH, Face ID was a master stroke on the part of Apple.

I haven't tried FaceID yet (can you even do this in a demo phone in store?)

But £1000+ phones should have as many features as possible, so I say why not both.

If some sort of whole screen TouchID were to come, I would be cool leaving FaceID behind, but given the current Animoji and Memoji push, it seems unlikely we're going to lose at least the sensors that enable the face tracking and FaceID.

Well, yes, to an extent, you can use the Animoji, which will mimic your face to replicate an avatar, etc. You can explore the settings with Face ID, but it is a ‘demo phone’, so you wouldn’t be able to successfully lock/unlock it.

I'm a bit over a day in to a Xr with FaceID, coming from a 6 with TouchID.

So far, I'm liking it and have found that I have to really try to get it to NOT work. Basically, if I hold my phone uncomfortably close to my face or really far off angle, it won't work, but otherwise seems flawless if I hold it anywhere from a reasonable viewing distance to arm's length away.

I've had a few years of using TouchID, and there are times where it can get frustrating. One of the classic ones is if I'm out working on my car-if my hands are really dirty/greasy I often can't get it to work, and if I do something that wipes out my fingerprints(which I've done inadvertently a few times) I have to use an alternate finger for a few days until they come back.

After nearly 10 years of iPhone ownership(starting with a 3Gs in early 2010), the biggest adjustment for me has been the lack of a home button, not the touch ID.

don’t think it’s a replacement for Face ID
Rather it’s IN addition to Face ID
