showing a wrong road layout that had been changed about 4 months ago,
And you know what's funny? I've been in contact with some major data providers and they, considering their map making processes, do not consider 4 months a long period of time. Up to one year, it's within normal timeframes. If it's not updated after one year, then it's a more serious problem.

I think this is the best example of how much they are out of touch with reality. Big companies need to change their assessment, otherwise, crowd-sourced apps like Waze will eat them alive.

Exactly. It took Waze about two weeks to reflect the correct road layout in the same spot without me doing anything about it, whereas Apple-TomTom duo both had my reports with the screen-shots and still no changes. I seem to remember a talk of Apple patenting the user feedback system for their maps a few years ago, but we have not seen anything come out of it yet. So for now, indeed, road layout quality wise Waze has outsmarted Apple big time.

Why Apple maps doesn’t have the same POI as Foursquare since they use data from them too ?

For right now Apple maps is the only maps that works with CarPlay.

You can trick your carplay by opening up apps that are not CarPlay ready, they will run in the background (I do this with SiriusXM), they will not display on the screen, but the audio will play. This will allow someone to run apple maps AND waze/google maps for accident/police info.
.

I do this all the time. I love Waze because of the extra alerts, they are almost as good as having a radar detector and it’s saved me a speeding ticket once or twice.

The only thing Waze doesn’t have is lane guidance. I haven’t tried apples newest yet but lane guidance is the reason I always use google in city navigation. Hopefully apples lane guidance is at least as good...

How many of you have been using the newest maps? Is the lane guidance working well?

I used google maps for awhile when it came out and enjoyed it for what it was. Then I tried google maps and was shocked at how good it was and haven't used Apple maps since. Are there any reasons to switch back to Apple maps when the big update comes?

I see if I open Apple maps now on my phone I still can't arrange my favorite locations or have folders for them. That seems so basic to have. I hope this has changed
I have used Apple Maps for a while now and the reason I do is because that's a way to help them improve. I report things that aren't correct and the more people use them, the better they eventually get.

That’s a good theory and I had been doing the same for a while too, yet found Apple notoriously slow (6-8 months) to correct the reported issues. Otherwise I believe that Apple automatically passively gathers your traffic info every time you are in a car, without us necessarily using the Maps.

Have tried the PB3 version of Maps a few days ago in France - neither lane guidance, nor speed limits, so they are probably trying it first in the US/UK and then rolling it out further.

I’ve been using Apple maps on iOS 11 exclusively. First off I love the new voice for Siri, I love the lane guidance, the options to switch route if it discover a faster route while you’re enroute to your destination, and I love the interface, super clean. Oh and you can have favorite locations.

iOS10 had favorites as well...but the rest is true. It really is my favorite UI of all the map programs. I just hope they open it up for more vetted "super user" input to speed up corrections/updates.

I haven't used Apple maps at all in ios 11 since I only have it on an iPad, but I find Google Maps to be more accurate with ETA, which I get indirectly from Apple maps when I have appointments in Calendar.

Apple maps also has a few locations listed incorrectly here in Fort Lauderdale, large well known locations, which I & many others have reported for years but it doesn't seem to get fixed.

That's possible. I'm ok with them using that too for me. They have always been really quick with my reports.

Apple maps doesn’t have any specific advantage over Google really. Apple has improved a lot though.

Everyone that advocates Apple Maps over Google Maps, do you rely on Apple Maps when you need to be somewhere at a specific time? I find that Apple Maps never has an accurate ETA when the route is first entered. With Google Maps it already accounts for delays with delays, traffic, accidents etc.

Does anyone else notice this? I'd love to use Apple Maps exclusively but don't find it as reliable as Google Maps when it comes to efficient routing and accurate ETAs.
That’s actually one thing Apple does well in my experience. I went on a trip last month and I used google maps because it found a route that was 50 minutes faster than Apple. It turns out it was just inaccurate by 50 minutes, lol.

I am not too bothered with Waze or Apple following my driving patterns either, but I would really like the maps to be as accurate as possible when I drive. At the moment Apple falls well behind both Google & Waze in this respect. Apple’s POI database is, again, pathetic. The fact that you have had your corrections taken care of quickly might have something to do with the fact that you are based in the US and me - in France. However, it is not like Google & Waze were French companies either, yet somehow they manage to get it together.

I would really like Apple Maps to succeed and use them as my primary navigation tool, but they are not ready yet.

This is why I really don't understand their reluctance to go to more of a user edited database.

Google did it with their own staff...Waze utilizes user input almost exclusively...isn't there a happy medium with Apple's rabid fanbase?

I have CarPlay in my truck, so I use apple maps exclusively. I haven't had any problems, other than the occasional white grid (rarely, it might be my signal strength).

Exact reason I use apple maps as my main maps app. My mustang has CarPlay, so it's nice having it on my screen.

I will use google maps or Waze when traveling during rush hour, though. The traffic data is crazy accurate from google, and living in the heart of Orlando, it can re route me before I make a huge mistake and get on a road that has a 30+ minute delay because of traffic/accidents.

I use Waze when I commute as well...but because I commute "very fast" and am worried about the police.

But from a traffic/re-routing perspective, I haven't noticed that Waze or Google is actually any different than Maps. I'm still not satisfied with some closed roads that seem to be missing from Maps. Sometimes they are right there and other times not. It's situations when roads are closed for short periods of time like when they are being paved that Waze seems to be the only map out there that can handle the quick updates.

It may be because I am in the NY metroplex (Always in traffic from the City all the way out to the end of Long Island), but Apple maps does very well with re-routing and giving accurate ETAs. I do admit, that this is likely because I am in NYC/Long Island, and it may be significantly different in other markets.

I spent the first 18 years of my life on Long Island, and every time I visit home, I definitely use Waze lol. Apple Maps got me lost in queens a while back and its scarred me ever since. :p

I think Apple Maps in iOS 11 is much better. Lane guidance, better route optimization in route, ability to see alternate routes with similar etas without bothering you about it. I've been using apple maps since it came out. Honestly I never had so many issue with it, not like google was perfect either. I tried Waze for a while but then I realized I'm driving distracted all the time trying to get points for pointing out a piece of wood on the side of the road. It's just not safe.

Apple has hit the nail on the balance between features, ease of use, and integration. If I'm motorcycling and need more waypoint features, I used inRoute (which uses the Apple maps engine under the covers). It's a great 3rd party app for road trips and such.

I'd like better lane guidance - often I don't actually get any, and I'd like to have a view of the lane setup, rather than just "stay in the right lane".

I like the new speed limit display, but I really want it to display my speed. Waze does this well, displaying speed and turning red if speeding. I'd be fine with both numbers displayed.

What do you mean by "better lane guidance?"

Speed display is doesn't matter to me...

I'm not convinced Apple Maps is as good as Waze, or will reach that point by iOS 11.

There are a few things Google still schools Apple on, IMO:

- Maps
- Mail
- Messaging (across platforms, thanks to browser based messaging)

Lol @ messaging. Come back to us when they can focus on making ONE app that isn't vapourware and eliminate the redundant ones they have. (I think it's 5 now?)

I have had very good success using Apple maps in the city and surrounding boroughs. I use to going to very remote locations too. Even the traffic is accurate on my daily commute. I can see where the traffic clears up before reaching it, and every time, it is clears up right where the red line stops.
When Apple first started their maps it was pure garbage, but over the years it has become impressive. I can understand judging it on early versions, and honestly if I didn't get a carplay head unit, I probably wouldn't have given it a chance.

Trust me, I love iMessage.

I think what I meant is that at least Hangouts is available on platforms regardless of them being developed by Google or not.

Your area is probably having a very good AM coverage then. However, many posters on this forum describe their experience with the latest AM variant, as found in DB4/PB3, and still find it lacking in some major areas.

I was responding to a specific post about a member who lives in FL but is originally from Long Island NY. I already had a disclaimer in what I said earlier that I am in the NYC/Long Island area (the most major market in the US), so it is likely to do with my area.

I have sent my first POI correction to Apple Maps last month. It was corrected within 2 weeks and I live in Switzerland. I was actually amazed about their speed. Previously my corrections were ignored.

What's appalling, though, is that the POI I had to correct had been wrong for several years. A restaurant which closed in 2012 was still on Apple Maps! It was correctly removed within months from all other tools I tested (especially Google, Foursquare and Facebook).

Why can't they access some other database to fix their POIs, I will never understand.
