I just bumped up my Amazon credit limit so I can finally upgrade my Air 2 (which has been 'popping' at the top for awhile now and the home button recently started sticking), just in time for Amazon to begin directly selling Apple products. I wanted to take advantage of 12 month financing on my card to get a Pro.

I was planning on getting the 10.5 because it's still a great machine, I don't have to buy a Pencil because my fiance upgraded to a 2018 12.9 and I can take her old one, and I can go all the way up to 512GB and not feel like I'm breaking the bank! I've tried them all out in the store and while the extra size on the 12.9 is really nice, the 10.5 is surprisingly more comfortable to use than I thought. Great, I'll wait for Friday or Monday to see if there's an Amazon deal and I'll order one!

But wait, I've started hearing that there's this widespread display issue that's come about on the 10.5, where a bright spot forms after a few months and you have to start playing the exchange game. I already had to go through several faulty Air 2s when I first bought it (surprisingly many of them had prominent easily visible dirt under the screen) and I don't what to have to worry about that again, both buying new and down the line. I returned an LG GPad and G4 in the past because both of them had bright spots out of the box, that definitely bothers me especially if I'm looking to start digital drawing.

Is this really an issue affecting most 10.5 iPads? If it's really such a big problem I'll just spring for the new 12.9, only downside is I'd have to buy a new Pencil and probably would have to go down to 256GB, plus it seems none of the current cases protect the sides which is ridiculous to me.

I do have the display problem after about one year of use. White spot 2” above the home button in portrait mode. If you do buy a 10.5 I highly suggest AppleCare.

I always get it anyway, I just hate the idea of a ticking clock to an inevitable issue. I'm leaning toward springing more for the 12.9, I just don't want to spring for the 512 but I might do it anyway.

It is a lot of money and to be honest, I would try to avoid the headache... The problem is pervasive enough, that I would choose a different model.

Yeah, true. I'm coming from a 128GB Air 2 so a 256GB would still be a step up. This will be the first time I didn't max out the space on an Apple product, haha. I know I don't need a 1TB iPad and the cost isn't worth it, I'm just torn between the 256 vs 512 if I go with a 2018 Pro.

I went through about 6 devices before getting a keeper

It was obvious on the screen the yellow tint and a couple had light bleed

There was an issue for a while but maybe sorted now with new ones, have a search as there was a big thread on it

I may have beginning of a spot. Directly above home button, like 2.5 to 3 inches above it on screen. It is most visisble on light background websites. Like right now on this site. Not worried as I have to really look for it. Like most of the problems thst we find here, they aren’t even noticeable to many others in the real world. Plus I have apple care on it with almost an entire year left. If it gets bad or easily noticeable I will have it taken care of. Over all it’s a great device. Although I have purchased, returned and may repurchase another new 2018 IPP, I plan on keeping this on in the household for years to come.

I just bought the 2017 iPadPro and so far no white spots and i is working great.
I would check Amazons product warranty on their Apple products.

This will be the first time I'm buying an Apple product outside the Apple Store, but I can't pass up the Amazon financing. Either way I buy AppleCare for everything so Amazon's warranty is a moot point, only thing that matters is exchanging it if there's a problem out of the box which Amazon has always been good with.

Had one or two spots on my iPad Pro 10.5 as well, even though I've been very careful. Brought it in and they replaced it under regular waranty (had AC+ but wasn't needed in this case).

I have one really light spot on mine. No AC+ And was quoted $450 to replace the entire unit.

Not thrilled but I am confident mine was due to an accidental drop of my really heavy camera bag.

If there is then I don't see in my unit. It was bought in August 2017, from B&H. It's the 256 GB wifi+cell, space gray, model: MPHG2LL/A, serial number DLXTJ1GEHPDV. I believe it was used for the 1st time in October 2017, after shipped from the U.S..

I take care of my iPAD and never saw anything similar.

Damn I have to say I'm torn now. I hate the prospect of playing the exchange game if something happens (I can't tell you how much a bright spot would annoy me), but the 10.5 is still a nice device. If it's such a huge problem I'll probably save some money and upgrade my Air 2 to a 2018 iPad instead, either way I still get to finally use Pencil.

I suppose this is a decision I'll have to make today if I want any kind of discount or gift card.

Myself if it’s not a really early production you won’t have a problem.

So in the end I thought about it in Best Buy, ultimately it came down to the 10.5 Pro and the 9.7 iPad, because the 2018 Pros were just out of price range for me. I saw a few 10.5 store demos - four in total, only one had the issue. I tried the Pencil with the 9.7 and the 10.5 and ultimately I just couldn't get over how well the 10.5 performed while the line dragged on the 9.7.

So now I'm a Pro 10.5 256GB LTE owner, complete with Pencil, Smart Keyboard, a back cover (to go with it), and a folio case (where it will spend most of it's time because I won't always want the keyboard attached). If I have a problem, I have AppleCare. It looks amazing out of the box. Hopefully this is a recent production model and/or I won't have a problem!

And with all the crap I just bought I'm clearly all-in on the 10.5 Pro!

I think you made the right decision and I feel there won’t be any problems.

I had the dreaded white spot issue on my 10.5. Got it replaced under warranty, but this issue was part of the reason I decided to just upgrade to an 11inch pro hopefully resolving whatever the hell issue is causing this.
