Just wanted to add to the mouse delay that I was using a mouse at first (non microsoft) and it was really bad. Delay, jumpy, choppy, took a while to get the pointer on something. I broke down and got a magic trackpad and it went away, but it's still irritating that i have to buy stuff to fix problems that should not be there.

You got lucky. On the thread about the issue, people using the Magic Trackpad experience lag as well.

And, to the ones saying people like to come here and say bad stuff about the OS, no, that's not true. It's no coincidence that the average score on the App Store is really low.

I love my Macs and love OS X but Apple really messed up with Yosemite. My Macbook Pro can't handle simple graphic animations like Exposé, too many windows of a certain app open, has severe delay using a mouse made by Apple and can't handle large downloads because the Wifi is dropping every minute. Guess what, under Mavericks everything works like a charm. Yes, a i7 Retina MBP with 16GB of RAM is capable of handling all that :O It looks awesome, yes it does, and the features added, even though I don't own an iOS device are great but I think it's about time Apple decides that a 1 year cycle between OSes is too small. No wonder people loved Snow Leopard. It was based on Leopard, Apple added TONS of features that we still use nowadays, managed to improve the overall performance and still released 8 (EIGHT) point updates to fix issues. Right now, Yosemite still has serious issues and Apple is probably preparing to present/release the new OS X version that will be available this year. Then I have friends of mine with 2009/2010/2011 Macbooks and say that Yosemite works like a charm. That only shows the lack of optimisation there is.

There are too many complaints for it to be a mere coincidence or people just saying it's bad because they feel like it.

I agree. Some people not having problems seem to think if it's not happening to them then it's not happening. I think it's the "world revolves around me" syndrome.

It's not terrible, but I'm not a fan of it. Laggy UI on a retina 2014 Mac is unacceptable.

I reverted to Mavericks and am now much more satisfied. Hopefully Apple get their act together for 10.11.

Yep. I can understand Apple's desire to chuck out iOS versions as frequently as possible – the iPhone is still evolving rapidly, and of course each new iOS cuts out an older generation of iPhones and thereby helps stimulate sales – but I see no reason why this should also apply to OSX. Computers are a much more mature segment, the main thrust of development seemingly being reduced power consumption as much as anything else. There simply doesn't appear to be an obvious need for such frequent new versions of OSX.

As for Yosemite: I tried it for a couple of days on my wheezy old 2011 mini (with SSD) and functionally it worked like a charm. I reverted to Mavericks because the aesthetics of it were so unpleasant.

Yes, it is.

I'm back on Mavericks now, after battling away with eye strain, pointer/cursor lag, horrible WiFi issues, app crashes, app freeze ups, beach balls, UI and overall sluggishness for months.

Oh, and it looks horrible.

Downgrading away from Yosemite was one of the best things I did - I've posted the same thing many times now. Avoid Yosemite if you can.

Since switching from Windows in 2011, Yosemite was the first OS upgrade where I had a lot of trouble getting my iMac to settle down. Felt like I was back in Windows solving glitches for a couple of months. It's now running fine on both my iMac and my 2010 MacBook and I like it. I really like being able to answer the phone on my iMac. Only problem I have is that the cursor focus periodically gets pulled away from me into the task bar. Not sure if that is a Yosemite thing and can't be bothered troubleshooting it.

I've been using Yosemite on my Mac mini since the day after its release and I haven't seen a single problem.

Yosemite is slow on my Macbook Pro 2011 with 16 GB Ram and Hybrid HD.

I kept it but I didn't install on my parents 09 Macbook Pro 8GB Ram..

I wish they can improve speed... everything is slower than Mavericks.. my experience!!

It appears that people who have issues often have older Macs. I have observed some UI performance degradation on my colleagues 2011 MBP. I guess it has to do with the older GPU not being able to cope with the new effects. At the same time, the other 20+ computers are running Yosemite without any issues. Go figure.

Other then that, Yosemite has been great here. New features are very helpful, its very stable, does not have the annoying WiFi bugs we had with Mavericks, and the performance is great.

Feature-wise, I thought it fantastic. I'm glad Apple have finally found a proper use for the green button, extensions is a really good idea and the iPhone continuity features are a great idea.

Bugs-wise, the release was unacceptable. Wifi didn't work, many apps would just crash and continuity features did not work. Things have improved, but I still find it unacceptable since Windows manages to do what Apple fails to do, and Apple are working with their own cherry picked hardware, not a million possible combinations like Microsoft are.

The new theme is probably the worst thing though. It's ****ing horrible and I honestly mean that. It gives me the most awful headaches after a few hours of use and everything is generally harder to see and use. Yosemite is the first ever OS I've ditched due to looks alone. They need to sort that mess out.

My experience is the exact opposite. Friends with older Macs don't experience any problems. Me and people with Retina Macs complain a lot about UI lag (and other issues).

I think that would be the only serious criticism I can give about Yosemite: the inconsistency of the user experience. I have no idea what is going on here but its definitively weird and is most likely rooted on quality management (or lack thereof).

But the reverse is also true.. Just because you have problems doesn't mean everyone has and hates it

I've not had any major problems with it (apart from my devices not doing a wifi sync with itunes most of the time)

I bought my first Apple computer last year, MBP 15", that came with Mavericks. Coming from a windows computer I realized I had made a good decision. I did like Mavericks so I waited until 10.10.2 was released before downloading Yosemite. I was worried because of all the complaints I had read about here.

I downloaded from the APP store, took 50 minutes, with no problems. I have been using it now for a couple weeks and I like it. Safari is faster, no wifi or bluetooth problems, and I'm getting use to the new look of it. It started off being a ram hog but that seems to have settled down too.

I say go for it.

Of course but we're not talking about a dozen people here. The complains are so much and always around the same: UI lag, Wifi issues, BT issues.

US App Store rating (two weeks old or something):

UK App Store rating (also two weeks old):

Screenshots taken by me.

Again, this is not about half a dozen people that have issues and think others must have too. It's about most people having issues.

It would be interesting to know how many people who have the same hardware are not having the issues other people are having. I have personally noted this as someone reported extreme lag issues with their 2009 Mac-Mini and yet I having the same 2009 Mac-Mini with nearly identical specs (poster noted having SSD and I have 5400 RPM HD) and no lag at all.

My point is, without knowing the exact instance of what is causing the issues can only lead to misinformation. And let's also consider this, how many installations of Yosemite are there in the wild compared to some 22687 complaints. Another thing, I suspect a lot of complaints are coming from people not liking the new UI look.

It also would be interesting to know how many people were having issues with past OS X versions around the same time frame as when Yosemite was first released to the general public. Every OS X release has generated a lot of complaints.

"Proper use" is one way to put it, particularly if you're using a 13" screen. However, I find on a 27" always having to hold down Option is quite annoying. There really should be a way to change the default behavior of the button. As for the other two, I agree.

Bugs-wise, the release was unacceptable. Wifi didn't work, many apps would just crash and continuity features did not work.

The main issue I've encountered is with the WiFi speed hovering around 10 Mb/s, the only solution for me was to disable the new AirDrop. Even on the 10.10.3 beta, I'm honestly amazed this issue hasn't been fixed.

The new theme is probably the worst thing though. It's ****ing horrible and I honestly mean that. It gives me the most awful headaches after a few hours of use and everything is generally harder to see and use. Yosemite is the first ever OS I've ditched due to looks alone. I like it, very modern and optimized for retina.

Where have I said everyone has problems and hates it? Did you actually read what you replied to? I guess not, I will quote it.

Some people not having problems seem to think if it's not happening to them then it's not happening.

I said SOME people not having problems think if it's not happening to them then it's not happening. That indicates that I know there are people not having problems and it's only some of them that think that.

Here's an example:

No, it's a great OS. People just love to complain about everything they can find on here :p

Maybe you have an example of someone on this thread saying those that claim they have no problems actually have problems? I don't see it, it's guys like this insinuating we are just complaining for nothing.

Very smooth and no issues at all on 2012 13"MBP with SSD and 16GB ram, external 27" and display link second screen. Hammer the hell out of it most days.

Metaphorically speaking of course.

With an SSD I like it.

With a mechanical drive, it's too sluggish and slow.

My experience anyway.

I thought about making sure people knew I was using the second definition from below, but I figured it was clear.. Some people just want to take everything personally it seems ;)

You replied directly to me which means you were addressing me. That makes it fall under #1, if you (#1) had made a post without replying to anyone then #2 could have applied.

Some people want to try and teach school when they are vastly underqualified.

In the present
No issues with Yosemite nor any of the other OS's. Of course I know what I'm doing and and making sure I don't put on old stuff on and do a complete clean install. ;) :D

I have the same experience. For me it's stable and very fast. Had some glitches before I did a clean install but after that I'm very satisfied.
