My only problem with the :apple:TV is its lack of a DVD player. If it had this, it would allow people to use it as an "all in one" media center. Sure there are movies and shows on iTunes, but what if it's a DVD that isn't available via iTunes? Having a built-in DVD player probably wouldn't cost too much more on Apple's part, and it would make the high price a lot more justifiable.

Why would I want another DVD player? I've got too many as it is.

Your desire for a DVD player is akin to those who want a CD player in their car--a bit behind the times. I've ripped most of my DVDs to the computer, and can watch any of them without digging around for the DVD. It's no different than when I ripped all of my CDs many years ago.

What so many don't get is that ATV is essentially iTunes in a hardware form. Anything that's available on your iTunes share can come through ATV in a clean, simple way. Why would you think that you're in any way restricted to content from iTMS?

I wouldn't want another DVD player, I'd want only one piece of equipment: an :apple:TV. I know that anything can be broadcasted to the :apple:TV, but suppose a friend brings over a DVD of his/her wedding, birthday, whatever. It would be time consuming to pop it into my computer and then start a stream. It would be much faster for me to pop it into the :apple:TV directly. If I then wanted to save it, it would be nice if the :apple:TV could copy it into my iTunes library (assuming no copyright restriction exists, which it shouldn't on a friend's homemade video). The DVD player would add functionality for those times when someone has media in an older format. Otherwise, I would use my computer only.

I can see that particular example, but I can't see the demographic ATV is aimed at giving up their DVD players.

Well, for someone like me, who in a few years will be out of college and moving into my own place, an :apple:TV with a DVD player would be great. I wouldn't have to buy two different products. It would free up space and create less garbage at the time when DVD players are obsolete and the only thing sold is :apple:TV-like devices (which I think happens to be the future of media content distribution; why the OP couldn't see that is beyond me:rolleyes:).

I laugh when people suggest using a laptop (or even a computer, more on that in a sec) as an alternative to a media center like the AppleTV, or even the (hacked) XBox or XBox360. For one, having to hook up a laptop every time you want to watch a movie would be a royal pain in the ass. (Imagine having to hook up your game console, DVD player, etc each time you'd want to watch/play it and it'd lose a lot of it's appeal, too.)

As far as the computer, maybe with the exception of Windows Media Center (depending on the computer), I believe what's made for the TV looks best on a TV and what's made for a computer looks best on the computer (monitor). Back in the day, S-video connections were way fuzzy (downrez) even on the better video-out cards. The emulator games on the XBox (hacked) through S-video looks far better than the same emulated games on a PC hooked up via the same connection. And these days, HDTV owners have to deal with overscan problems when hooking a computer up. Some computers have settings to counter this, but they can vary. I hooked up a Mac Mini to my HDTV and couldn't get it to look just right.

Lastly, devices intended for the home center first take user interface/remote into consideration. When I had the Mac Mini hooked up, I was always tethered to the mouse in "some" way when the odd situation came up that didn't involve Front Row / Apple remote.

But when I connect my ATV with my iTunes to sync my music i can´t choose my iTunes again to stream the movies.

Where can set it that he sync the music and stream the movies?

After you've paired for syncing and setup the Apple TV in iTunes, in Apple TV go to the Sources menu and pick the iTunes source that has the links next to it (your syncing source).

You'll then see all your music/movies/podcast content in the appropriate menus.
