You really think that even an ipod with touchscreen but no internet would make the iPhone worthless?
Actually, touchscreen isn't all that important in itself...but what is important is having as big a screen as possible, and touchscreen is the best way to achieve that.
A larger screen and video.
The touchscreen will be too big for some people, and I think it will be a fair amount more expensive. Not to mention that the touchscreen may be hard drive versus flash for the mini. And even if prices overlap, that hasn't been a problem with the current nano, right?

I see the touchscreen prices going up a bit to 299-399, nano maybe dropping a little, and mini coming in the middle, maybe 199-299 - 50 more than the nano at the same three capacities.
It will come with a touch screen. The multi touch screen is the successor of the click-wheel. The iPhone is nothing but a tease showing us what Apple has in store for the future iPod. It will have a better UI than the iPhone and lots of other media related features.
This is just the beginning.
They don't even HAVE an Apple Store in Mississippi anymore... Comp USA was the only place... and it went out of business!

If theres a touchscreen ipod I'll save up and buy one, if not, I don't see much reason for me to ditch my nano, it's done and has been doing the job for 2 years now

im pretty sure it will be touchscreen. if its not...and a clickwheel or something else (unless its something new and cool) thennnn im definently not buying. apple is gonna loose a customer. only 4 more days people!

Do what exactly? An iPod and iPhone are drastically different devices, if the iPod has a touchscreen, I don't see how that makes the iPhone any less valuable. It won't sway away any iPhone customers because guess what? The iPod is a music player! The iPhone has phone capacities (did you know that?) and of course the whole internet thing.
An OSX iPod with coverflow and other amenities might be nice but I'm really hoping for touchscreen.
Well, I'm hoping it comes with a remote of some kind. If it's a touchscreen ipod, then it'll be impossible to control the device while it's in your pocket. And who wants to have to pull out their expensive toy in front of potential muggers every time they want to change tracks?
Frankly I don't care about the iPhone market - which is currently exclusive to one network provider in one country (there are about 200 countries in the world and a tonne of network providers). It is niche, whereas the iPod works everywhere. Not to mention the fact that the iPod is Apple's bread and butter product. It's probably what saved the company.
And... the iPod does not make phone calls anyway, so I don't see how this could be an issue.
Most likely your looking at a 100GB hard drive and then all of the touchscreen technology that would go into this "new" iPod. It doesn't have anything to do with the iPhone. I would venture to say that it might even have BlueTooth.
I don't see a new iPod being an "iPhone killer" especially since they're made by the same company and the iPhone is will still be more expensive.
If Apple dont put a touchscreen on at least one of the iPod's, I can't really see where they are going with the product line. I mean, drastically, what else can they do to the current setup (clickweel and screen) to improve it?
exactly! it WILL have a touchscreen. and the new iPod will NOT dip into iPhone sales. im so tired of people saying this. they are two TOTALLY different devices. ones in a CELL PHONE market and a MUSIC PLAYER market.

well, if this ipod does have internet, more capacities than 8 GB, and has the same touch screen style as an iphone, i will be very disapointed in apple because i bought my iphone thinking it would always be the only product with all these special features. just having it have one special feature (phone) doesnt make it very special.

I do think it will have WiFi to download from the Wireless iTunes Store Apple will launch. It will also have a coverflow interface as a new display option. I think they will also move to flash memory and it'll be as thin as a Nano.

Now why would Apple develop all of these technologies and then limit themselves with how they deploy these technologies ? They will use them across all product lines if appropriate.
