I used to view the iPad as nothing more than a really big iPod... alright for surfing the web, but nothing really special. I was excited when the iPad was launched to see what it would be, but felt let down a bit when it wasn't more computer than it was...
But as time has worn on, I have gotten to play around with some demos, talked to people that own them, and so forth, my view has changed. While, the iPad is essentially a really big iPod Touch, or iPhone, that added size opens up lots of potential, as well it has proven more capable at many computer like tasks.
For example, word processing, is much better and viable on an iPad than a 3.5"ish touch screen device. Internet browsing is so much richer and fuller (no flash, kinda sucks, but at the same time flash isn't the internet, it is an add on that tends to be wasted on fancy and annoying ads). Add in more complete apps, ie music apps are more capable and tunable given that there is enough screen real estate, and so forth.
Perhaps it was a matter of time... perhaps it was using my phone (Nexus One) for all my internet, etc, for about 3 months while waiting to get a new computer, but the iPad grew on me as something that would be a great addition to my gadget lineup. And now, assuming USPS does it job right, I will be the proud owner and user of one starting tomorrow!
(Plus, for my lady, a professional artist, it will be a lot easier for her to pull a picture up on it and take it with her, than on her laptop, and so forth).
