iTunes 8.1 Now Available for Download

Relaunch the Finder (Control+Option+Click on the Finder icon) and it will update it.
A full reboot would accomplish the same thing....just not needed.

Umm is it just me or is the iTunes store link for iTunes plus upgrades nowhere to be found.
If I'm just a complete moron or they moved it please correct me.
Sign out and back into your iTunes account. That worked for me.

Does iTunes Now IP BLOCK buyers from the store??!?
Some of you guys complained about not being able to connect to the store. Any clue if that's because iTunes is now IP blocking people not located in the US from the iTunes Store?
Apple recently changed the Terms of Service saying that they could do so, but so far everything worked.
That's a hell of a deal breaker for me! No 8.1 until I'm sure!

It looks like they've made some major changes to the structure of the iTunes Library file / database. Under 8.0 my main library was 113Mb, under 8.1 it has shrunk to 17Mb with the XML version staying at 97Mb. I would imagine that this is the cause of the increased performance which most people are seeing.

I'll have to have a proper play with it later to see if they have sorted out the performance on large libraries, it was a complete nightmare for me with 8.0 - 20 second or so hangs after importing each track from a cd for example.

Don't think so. I have a US and UK iTunes account. I can still access the UK store from the US.
Still no transcode feature for syncing lossless to iPod.

Still no transcode feature so that those of us that want a lossless library on the desktop don't have to maintain a duplicate AAC library for the iPod... *sigh*

Loving the speed increases. Here's hoping they apply some of iTunes new-found pazazz to iPhoto 09, which is definitely in need of a speed bump.

I just did the update and I notice that the Party Shuffle has been renamed to the iTunes DJ. It is pretty neat to have something different than Party Shuffle. iTunes DJ sounds better.

Nor can I. I don't think it's there. Or maybe it will start working at a certain time. Someone should set their clock forward by a few days and report back.
Yes, you're right. I accidently went several months into the future and got 8.2 which isn't compatible with the current version of the internet. My mistake.
But, as an update, it now seems ok, crashing has ceased.
Gotta love the Time Machine feature in Leopard!
New iPod shuffle on wednesday, new iTunes on thursday... What happened to making all updates on tuesdays? They've gone mad!

This doesn't seem feasible to me. If I understand correctly, transcoding would code a lossless track to lossy when syning to the iPod, wouldn't this take forever to sync your iPod?
It seems like you would HAVE to have 2 libraries to make sure syning with iPod isn't too time consuming.
How did you get 8.2 when 8.1 was just released????
We need a better word than snappier. That is Safari's word, and starts with an S. I am now taking suggestions for words implying speed increases that start with an I (for iTunes)

That is not what the Genius feature is for with Video content.
All Genius will do for video content is offer other content on the iTunes store in the panel on the right hand side (if you have it turned on).
Second that. I haven't figured it out either.
Seems quite obvious. Music genius takes a song you pick and comes up with a playlist of similar songs. I would assume that a movie/tv genius would take a show/movie you pick and come up with a list of similar shows/movies.
I'm getting this same error with iTunes 8.1 when syncing my iPhone 3G 16 GB in Vista 64 bit.

So my "Upgrade to iTunes Plus" link is now back in the store, but when I click it, it says that I've already upgraded those songs. Which is it Apple? I want to upgrade, but you're not letting me!
Also, I thought that we could upgrade on a per-track basis? The last couple times I had upgraded songs available, it was the whole album or nothing. Odd.

Maybe you need to update Genuis first (store> update Genius)
