I had also wanted Apple to dring out a web app, but I kinda think that if iLife apps get better web page export support, then I wouldn't need a whole separate app to do it - the Smart Web Gallery thing in Aperture looks really exciting and I hope iPhoto gets some of those features - in someway.

Remember Keynote presentations can be exported as QuickTime movies and Shockwave files. So that gets you some contemt useable on the web.

And Pages has an export as html. And with what you can embed in a Pages document, it's quite likely taht you can design some nice web pages in Pages. I haven't done that, so I don't know the restrictions.

That was my point. I see the existing apps getting much better HTML exports integrated, than a whole new web page app. It's a shame Keynote doen't natively export to HTML.

The web export in iPhoto has always been dissapointing and extremely limiting - I have .mac but hate using the automated system that is currently has. Using export to web is what I tend to use, but i wish it had more options - digressing I know!

Do others want a Drawing app as part of iWork? And maybe a database app? For me, the former definately. Can't see a use for a database app myself though.

The database application can probably be kept seperate. If Apple bundles in a lite version of FileMaker they would have to increase the price of iWork by a noticeable jump. If they just add an Application a year, they can keep the price where it is - essentially an update price. (Especially when compared to the price of MS Office.)

What would be good would be some integration between FileMaker and iWork so at least people who need FileMaker can have the integration features.

And as for the drawing application, it might be useful, but the priority is a spreadsheet application in iWork. As well as improving Pages.

Who knows, they could add two applications to iWork when they update it, but I'd only bet on a spreadsheet app.

Pages not great for HTML output

I've tried doing exports to html using Pages and it's not brilliant. I have read some very damming critiques of Pages' web export capabilities, so I assume it would be ok for very basic usage but not more complex uses...

I've already designed an entire web site in Keynote, exported to Flash, so it can be done. I've yet to upload the thing though. It was my first effort, and still some bugs to work out.

I'd like a simple drawing program, but nothing like Paint. I'd like something more along the lines of OmniGraffle, with a real emphasis on work related images and flowcharts. OmniGraffle is great, so I don't see Apple taking square aim at it just yet. If, however, they could make as big a leap above OmniGraffle as they did with iPhoto -> Aperture, then  , I'd buy it. A real Visio competitor straight from Apple would be amazing.

Right now, however, Apple is probably focusing on wrapping up basic AppleWorks functionality and that means spreadsheets (and data plotting). Maybe we'll see a GUI shift to a more "Pro" app/dark platinum look since iWork is "work related", but who knows.

HTML support, though I never use it, might as well get a boost. Aperture looks like a good way to gauge internal software development trends at Apple, since its the latest brand new app they've made. If the level of HTML support in Aperture is a guide, then iWork might be getting some nice improvements. :D

I have bought both iLife versions specifically for the iPhoto upgrades. The thing I really want to see is a greater library capacity. I've got over 25,000 photos to organize, and using multiple library managers is a real pain.

iPhoto

Pass along some of the features of Apeture into iPhoto. Better book print quality, more options for book and web layout, improved ability to manage multiple libraries.

Don't make it use core image, I'd need to buy a new video card. Keep it "low tech" until I replace my machine.

AppleWorks is sooooo much better

Apple should have just polished AppleWorks and added more features. I have both Pages and AppleWorks and I use AppleWorks a lot more. I like the feel of it much better. In my opinion, IWork is not as nice as AppleWorks. It's a major disappointment.

Since I got Pages, I no longer use Appleworks for anything.

So there.
