I was excited and just wanted to announce this to you all. 1.1.3 has been successfully Jailbroken!

But now to the bad news…you still have to wait for it. The Jailbreak for 1.1.3 is not going to be released until Apple releases the Standard Developers Kit (SDK) sometime in February. I’m not exactly sure why they are waiting to release the jailbreak. The only thing that comes to my mind is that they are doing this so Apple can’t patch the 1.1.3 Jailbreak when SDK is released.

You can check out my Jailbreak 1.1.3 update post for more information.

Here is video confirming the 1.1.3 Jailbreak. It shows the user moving around the icons and using installer on firmware 1.1.3.

Nice, thanks for the update and confirming 1.1.3 has been jailbroken. Looking Forward to February.

Cheers,

THANK YOU! No, not for the Jailbreak, but for whoever thought of DELAYING IT until Apple releases 1.1.4 with the SDK. Pure GENIUS man. Don't release it now and let Apple fix whatever hole it exploits in 1.1.4, denying us "Installer.app" applications if their version of installing apps sucks. Just wait till 1.1.4 drops, then we can have our cake and eat it too....PLEASE, do NOT let this leak. Put it in a 256 bit AES encrypted folder and lock it away for the next month. THANKS so much! But, just to confirm, this means I can update my jailbreaked 1.1.1 iPhone to 1.1.3 and will still be able to jailbreak in the future right? God, I'm so excited...Thanks!

Your link shows a Ipod touch. Site only talks about touch. You sure Iphone forum is right for this? And not the Ipod forum?

p.s. I'm just asking. I have no idea if this is for both.

They both use the same system, so I think so :)

so whats the point in having a jailbroken iphone in the first place if it isnt to have 3rd party apps on it BEFORE the SDK arrives?

I'm incredibly sad. Can it be really true they jailbroke 1.1.3 but won't release it? I've been hitting refresh on the jailbreak updates sites for 5 days for nothing? whoa

As much as I want 1.1.3 jailbreak, having 1.1.4 with the same exploit used would be far better. I can wait ;)

Once the SDK is released in February, the need for Jailbreak functions disappears. Installer should be able to become a true app, endorsed by Apple. If it's even necessary, that is. Plus, it seems that Apple is set on letting developers sell their Apps, so what makes you think the majority of the good Apps out there will stay free? Just my two cents.

I agree with you. And yes, you are correct.

How about unlocking it.

You'll be happy when the 1.1.4 jailbreak takes no time at all. I think this is a great move.

Kinda stupid not to release it. I'll admit I have no idea how to jail brake a phone (the work involved in creating it, now how to do it) but I'm sure apple, being that it is their software has a way to find out how it is being done and possibly lock it out before the next update is even made available to us. Just my $.02

Of course Apple can patch it. But they can't (or is much more difficult) if they don't know what to patch.

I thought this exact thing to myself a few days ago... Definitely keep it under lock and key. Yeah waiting will suck, but they can't patch a hole they don't know about! Worth the wait IMO.

Luis - thanks. Now I understand. Dissapointed, but at least I "get it". I'm going to upgrade my husband's phone tonight as he wants 1.1.3 more than his apps. I'm holding out, but at least I'll get to play with his. Frustrating though.

Do we not yet know what DAY the SDK will be unleashed in Feb? Hopefully it's 2/1 or closer to the beginning and not the END of the month. God it's going to be an amazing time!

Why Bother

we are weeks away from the first approved third party apps. why jailbreak at all?

people who want to develop should get the development kit and do their thing. safer for every iPhone user and part of a new marketplace(probably like widgets) with some serious income potential

I mean no disrespect, but who are you dude? You answer my question as if you are the creator of this exploit....Are you?

Umm no I'm not the creator (I wish I had those skills tho). But you asked if the new jailbreak would let you update to 1.1.3 and jailbreak again your phone, and If everything goes as everyone hopes, then you will be able to.

Unlock you phone?

For the simple fact that you can get what you want, when you want. The SDK will be very selective and only certain companies will have the money to pay for it and be endorsed by Apple. The SDK is not coming free.... (for developers).

I understand the reasoning, I guess, luckily I have 1.1.1 and AT&T. All I hope is that the 1.1.3 apps are posted so us 1.1.1/1.1.2 users can implement them...

Wirelessly posted (iPod touch: Mozilla/5.0 (iPod; U; CPU like Mac OS X; fr) AppleWebKit/420.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0 Mobile/4A93 Safari/419.3)

hum, how are you sure the iphone sdk won't be free? Xcode is free...

I think the SDK will be free, but developers will probably charge for the better apps (by better I mean apps that took more time/effort to develop, and the developers want money)

It seems to me that a lot of people here are extremely naive!

Questions of why do we want to jailbreak once the SDK drops.... it makes me laugh!

Not everyone on here wishes to tie themselves to a contract with either AT&T or O2, nor can everybody afford to!

I am in the latter category, I work hard to earn my wage month in and month out but i simply could not afford to add at least £35 minimum to my budget, so does this mean i shouldn't have the privilege of owning an iphone?

I think not!

Not everybody here wants 3rd party apps just the right to choose their way of paying for a phone call.

Thank you to the talented development team behind the jailbreaks up to date and may you continue to keep we apple fans up to speed with the rest of the high rollers!

rant over!

Some apps might not be approved by the SDK, that is where jailbreaking comes in...

Exactly.

Apple is not going to open up iPhone development completely.. they are going to be checking out applications and deciding if they will be released or not.

If we can still jailbreak when the SDK becomes available, the hackers will be able to use Apple's tools to create software for the phone and third party development will be able to continue with better quality tools without the need for apple's approval.
