Not so sure....

I fail to see how Apple CAN endorse installer.app as officially sanctioned?

Its mere existence means anyone using it can do an end-run around Apple's centrally controlling the software apps that you're allowed to put on your iPhone or Touch. I'm 99% sure that with this SDK, it will mean people can develop apps - but can't actually install them to a working phone or touch. All they'll probably be able to do is run them on an emulated iPhone on the computer screen, and submit their code to Apple for consideration. Then, they'll "clear" the apps as safe and post them as either free or commercial, according to the wishes of the submitter.

Once the SDK is released in February, the need for Jailbreak functions disappears. Installer should be able to become a true app, endorsed by Apple. If it's even necessary, that is. Plus, it seems that Apple is set on letting developers sell their Apps, so what makes you think the majority of the good Apps out there will stay free? Just my two cents.

I agree, been there, done that. What a waste of valuable time. Get with the program, jail breaking the iPhone is past history, relegated to the nostalgia bin of life.

The people who say stuff like this are generally technically-clueless people who wouldn't know what the hell to do with an SDK anyway. But for those who know what they are doing, it's invaluable to have the SDK. I am currently writing an app that allows me to download files at will from easynews. I don't need to wait for someone else to create what I need and the utility of my iPhone is in the end decided by me. Just the way I want things.

Anyway, I don't think it's time for people to lose hope with the jailbreaking scene as I expect things will eventually follow the PSP pattern - ie. the firmware writing process itself will be research and reverse engineered.

Think of it like this. Before we had Bootcamp, we had to get creative running windows on an Intel Mac. Once bootcamp came out the old solution died quickly.

Jailbreak will probably end a similar fate in regards to apps. It will likely still exist in an unlocking form though for people who don't use iTunes/AT&T to activate.

I guess the big question is how open the SDK will be. If it gives us the same basic access as installer.app then the above will likely be true. If not then this may still have some life.

I suspect it will allow installations through itunes or itunes mobile. the real question is if the apps will be mostly free or apple will make developers charge for everything.

Does jailbreaking 1.1.3 also mean the phone will also be unlocked to other carriers or is that still an entirely separate issue because of the newer bootloader?

I could be wrong, but that Installer could just be a Webclip he is draggg around. It shows noc proof that this iPod is jailbroken.

Umm... not only does it not have the little "x" in the left corner, he LAUNCHES Installer app, and it runs as an app! It's not a URL loading up in Safari. Did you watch the whole video?

Wirelessly posted (iPod touch: Mozilla/5.0 (iPod; U; CPU like Mac OS X; fr) AppleWebKit/420.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0 Mobile/4A93 Safari/419.3)

hum, how are you sure the iphone sdk won't be free? Xcode is free...

The sdk itself may be free but if you want to get an sdk app on a iPhone, you have to go through Apple.

where the hell is "1.1.3 soft upgrade" package!?!?!

which source is it under.

seriously ive refreshed my stuff it aint there. i deleted some because it wasnt refreshing but i guess i might have deleted the one its on?

:(

l I have to say is they are really smart because apple is probably gonna rip us off and charge for eveytuing like they did for The touch apps. So they ate doing this as a procaution. Even tho it slipped out

just hope for the best

... i just hope that Apple (or you wise hackers) will let us have openSSH in 1.1.3, SDK and later, so we can actually use our touches and phones as viable tools in our LAN/WAN lifestyles.... I mean really, what's a hand held wi-fi device worth without root level I/O and a terminal?.. sheesh.

oh and PS: the fact that Apple went with ATT exclusive was a sign that Apple has lost touch with those of us who prize our personal choice, privacy and security. So in that regard, we have every right to tamper with their software, so long as they tamper with our packets.

Hi, I have just bought a Iphone but it comes with 1.1.3 already on it, will this new jailbreak let me jailbreak my phone? I have seen that the 1.1.3 jailbreak has been released but only if your iphone is already working on 1.1.1 or 1.1.2.

Thanks,

Im in the same issue:
Don't know if buy an iPhone 1.1.3 today or to wait forward february until a real software jailbrake (telephone activation) to be released.

Thank you!

greets from chile,
