For me, yes, jailbreak is dying.

Other members also mentioned that due to iOS now is good enough for most people, control centre, night shift, Siri, hotspot......

Furthermore, Apple Watch, Apple Pay, etc also helps to kill jailbreak. There are lots people around me using Apple Watch, much more than I expect. As long as they want to keep the Watch OS up to date. iOS need to be updated to a version that usually no jailbreak available. Also, for most people that use Apple Pay, I don't think they even comfortable to use jailbreak. It's not just risking your Facebook or email account, but direct risk to the credit card. Especially the recent jailbreak tools were released by some China teams (don't get me wrong, I am also a Chinese).

The tools sometimes are hard to use due to language issue. Sometimes may consider quite buggy. Sometimes take few hours to jailbreak an iPhone. Even worse, sometime auto install pirate software assistant, or need to install a profile from an unknown source. All these make jailbreakers lost confidence.

I was one of the jailbreaker from the very beginning. But few months ago, I go back to official OS. Semi-untether jailbreak is not perfect for me. Apart from the above points, one of the biggest problem is that I can't use some bank apps when my phone is jailbroken. Yes, I know some plugin can make those apps believe my phone is not jailbroken, but not 100% work. At least they never work to a level that can bypass my company's software jailbreak check.

I jailbroke because I want more functions, a more useful iphone. And nowadays, jailbreak actually make my iPhone less useful. So, no point for me to jailbreak anymore.

I never tried jailbreaking before this year. I am part of a small group that believes the Springboard is in need on a major innovative overhaul and that Apple needs to reinvent the smartphone UI.

However, with the preview of 11 all we saw was more of the same. However, I found out that I could not JB my iPhone 7Plus running 10.2.1. I have JB'd my wife's old iPhone 6S just to mess with it. Hers was still on 10.1. Got to see some of the cool things.

But some of what I would consider the best and most useful tweaks have not been updated for iOS 10 compatibility and only work in iOS 8 or iOS 09. The JB devs are simply not what I hear they used to be. I was finally ready to fully jump into using a JB device. But there is no option for my iPhone nor are what I consider some critical tweaks compatible with iOS 10. Oh well.

I think some of the devs just decided that the jailbreaks since 9.2 are not worth the effort. That's just a personal opinion.

There are some devs that are responsive. The dev that makes Copic and Callbar is responsive. It's his business. But while I don't think jailbreaking is dead (yet) I will admit to a decline that started when the main dev for BiteSMS walked out the door of the company.

That, I think, was a big hit for the community (both user and dev) and a lot of devs abandoned things after that.

I think the insensitive of jailbreaking is so low for developers that once they get into a proper job & family ladder, they just don't see the value of spending time on it anymore.

I think it's where you place your interests.

I have a job and a family, but I've never let go of my interests and always make room for them. Never to the exclusion of either my job or family, but you can make a balance if you truly have an interest in something.

If it's not something you really like then you won't.

Still waiting for the highschool kids of Porkholt Labs! to release the long promised Weather live wallpaper. Last time I used it I was running Nexus.

You can't really run a service like a hobby to be honest. People expect support if they're paying for something. Development or platform hacking for that matter requires constant time and attention. I used to be big in jailbreak back in the days as well but when real life hits, one prioritises and I guess development without even a little thank you and loads of moaning for support from regular users don't provide enough for developers to stay on the path.

I knew many tweak functionalities have been adopted by Apple in the newer iOS version. But.. I still miss tweak (forgot its name) that make iPad can send and receive SMS. That old days was up until iOS 7 released.

Ultimately, it's not going to matter in early 2018, if when we upgrade, it's not to another iPhone.

I jumped to an S8 plus about 6 weeks ago and I couldn't be happier. I'm able to do the stuff I do quicker and then there are the little things like contact photos showing up on the display in my car over bluetooth and the bezels, or lack of. I've ordered a Note 8 the other day.

What are you thinking of getting next?

Huawei P10 Plus.

You'll note that the dual cameras are flush. ;)

Which tells me that Apple can do it - because a non-Apple manufacturer can. Apple just chooses not to. Which tells me Apple thinks the camera bump is a design element. Which of course, I don't care for.

I am sure they will score again :).....to be quite frank, I am counting on it....it's time for a new phone :)

Yeah, used to be in East Germany, but after the 1989 fall of the wall, they came back big again.

Yeah, I like it.

Also like the fact that the dual cams are Leica.

We'll see what Apple does this year.

It does look like a nice and I've heard good things about it.

I wish someone would make their video default to landscape to stop people videoing in portrait and this

I'm thinking of jumping on the S8+ if prices drop or sales after the Note 8 comes out. I lean staying with Samsung since the iOS themers I follow upload themes in both playstore and Samsung theme store. I apply both so I have a fully themed phone including keyboard, messages, settings, etc...

Been having a good time converting all my iOS mods to KLWP (SBHTML style widgets). I've been slowly adding UNiAW animations (clouds, balloons, astronauts, etc) in KLWP. I've loved JBing my iPhone for these mods, but can't stand the waiting game and staying on old iOS just to keep my JB... Most of all, I am not a fan of semi-untethered JB's. My iOS mods look, work, and perform better on android. Love iPhones, but if I can't update, JB, or mod it, I'm more than happy playing with KLWP and Samsung phones.

Here is my latest iOS mod conversion to KLWP... My 6+ on left... and my S7 today with animation.

I prefer mine to be a little cleaner to be fair, plus I've always used Nova prime on android. I did keep a hint of iOS though:D

Of course it's fair... we all have our preference. Besides our own preferences, we all agree on that we want the freedom to do what we want to our phones. That's why we jailbreak our iPhones...:)

I really love the jailbreaking community... but jailbreaking just isn't the same 2, 3+ years ago. I'm not trying to be an android troll... but Apple and the iOS exploit hackers aren't leaving us much choices. I really wish it could be like it used to be. If it weren't for the jailbreaking community, I wouldn't be enjoying my S7 today. Wish I could be doing mods on iPhones instead, but reality is... jailbreaking is dying on the theming/mod side of things.

If the jailbreaking was still strong(for late models) I would most lightly be still using an iPhone rather than having my 7 and 7+ in the drawer.

I think that depends on what you consider to be theming.

Lots of mods (such as yourself it would appear) are abandoning theming iOS. So, if you are an average jailbreak user who routinely moves around between developed themes then I can see why you'd consider jailbreaking to be dying.

On the other hand, people like myself (and I realize I am in a minority) have a basic look in mind and don't depart from it. For that, Eclipse, Monochrome and Grayscale are all I need to get the 'theme' I want. Once it's set, I don't change it. I haven't changed it in two years - because it's EXACTLY how I want it to be and I don't want it to change.

I don't move between themes, I don't try new mods that reskin iOS or anything like that because I already have what I want.

Devs are leaving. That I do not deny. But whether theming is dying or not - well, it just doesn't apply to me.
