I decided to sacrifice my jailbreak on 7.0.4, and updated to 7.1 on my iPhone 5S. I do and don't regret my decision.

I don't regret it because the performance and stability is ridiculously better. I've been very impressed, actually. :)

I do regret it, because I have lost my beloved "Colour Profiles" tweak, and thus, I am stuck with a yellow tinted display. :(

Anyway, to the point of this thread:

1. Is there even a chance of a jailbreak being made available for iOS7.1?

2. In terms of news about a potential upcoming jailbreak, where should I be looking/who should I be following? Even if it's just to hear confirmation that a jailbreak won't be possible this time round.

Thanks.

While I'd love to have the stability and performance increase with 7.1, I won't lose my j/b.

OP, you're in the right spot to learn about whether there is, will be, or won't be, a j/b for 7.1. ;)

It's unlikely there will be one. But;

Pod2g said 'if he was bored' he might look into tweaking evasion to work with 7.1 depending on how much was fixed.
I expect even if that does happen, he might wait until ios 8 betas and look at what has been fixed in ios 8 first. Just to be sure that more exploits aren't burnt.

SOL. I doubt there will be one. Evasion will probably not waste another exploit until IOS 8 comes.

And then if they find one, they won't release it until 8.1 comes, then 9, then 9.1...

Cuz' you know, why waste the exploits.

;)

Pod2g states that evasi0n as a team is not planning on releasing a jailbreak till ios 8 but he also said if he has time on his hands and gets bored he might look into making 7.1 jailbreak depending on how much of the jailbreak is patched in 7.1.

I think we'll see one last jailbreak for 7.1.X when an incremental upgrade is released. iOS 8 is still 6+ months away, and pod2g isn't the only JB dev on the scene.

This is all speculation by users, nothing confirmed by the jailbreak team that they're saving exploits

I'm debating whether or not to sacrifice my jb or not. Does the stability outweigh the ability to tether? Tethering is really the only reason I jb. Although I don't tether all the often it's nice to have it when needed.

I updated my mini retina. I'll admit, I'm quite pleased with 7.1. Not ready to give up my JB on my 5s though.

Apple fixed 4 exploits from evasi0n so i doubt they will go for a 7.1 fix.

There are some performance fixes in 7.1 but 7.04 and 7.06 are stable enough to not warrant developing a whole new jailbreak for 7.1

My guess they'll wait for 8.x

And no Pod2G is not the only one but certainly an important figure as he is part of evad3rs and has helpt other devs as well.

Besides that they have to go through the donation storm again which i imagine wasn't any fun. Hopefuly EFF got some donations, the evad3rs didn't this time around.

I wonder what these performance enhancements I keep reading about constitute. Apps starting up faster? Faster browsing? Better battery life? For now I'll assume Apple has just sped up system wide animations.

The Safari stability enhancements are real - I've very thoroughly benchmarked them.

The iPhone 4 is also sped up. (I couldn't compare the figures with NoAnimations hacks as, obviously, I couldn't have installed it on 7.1).

Otherwise, the two are pretty much the same.

Yep, I figured the Safari fixes are for the most part what this update is about, besides a speedier UI. I never have Safari crash but I must admit that I browse pretty much the same sites every day.

So yea, if there isn't significantly better battery life on offer, I think I'll pass for now.

same here, no intentions on going to 7.1. 7.0.6 JB running great for me, except for this recent bitesms issue

I really hope they save exploits for iOS 8, 7.1 beta jailbroken is working out great!

Those who really wanted it made it happen. See that expiry thread.

I updated my iPad air because the refreshing of safari tabs was driving me nuts already. I'm glad they fixed that, I was starting to worry it was a RAM issue that couldnt be addressed via software update.... As for my iPhone I would never give up my JB so I guess I'll staying on 7.0.6 until iOS 8 if I have to.

There will be more releases after 7.1 they will releae it then I hope. I don't want no betassss lol

All of the 'They won't waste an exploit on 7.1' posts are hilarious.

Don't you learn from history? Recent history?

If someone waves enough money, the evasi0n team will waste any exploit at any time.

people should stop talking about "there is no jb for next update...blah blah."
Either you update it and deal with it...or keep jb and don't update.
SIMPLE.

I was in the same boat as the OP, I sacrificed my JB for stability and performance and that's exactly what I got with iOS 7.1!

The only tweak I miss is this tweak that would integrated contact pictures to iMessage and it's bubbles, besides that I don't miss the app crashes and resprings at all!
