More competition in the market place? That is always good for the consumer. Always...
I can agree with that. Maybe it will push some up and coming Apple engineers to make a name for themselves.

Slowing innovation, Apple has grabbed most of the low hanging fruit. You see it with A15.

Intel on the other hand, has a long way to go.

If only they got universal control working earlier, he could have dragged the codes and schematics over to his iPad and walked out. Without that, it was a chore. All that copy and paste took so long or he would have left sooner.

Missing comma in the title gives it a different meaning.

I'm usually a believer that it takes a team plus Intel would benefit more immediately from outsourcing fab to TSMC.

Raja Koduri left AMD to lead Intel GPU development in 2017, now is 2022 and we still have to see an Intel GPU. In the mean while AMD graphic cards have become significantly better.
I'm not worry at all.
Nothing is rotten IMO, is just normal that people come and go from companies, when you have done your job its time to move on. You can be sure that M2 and M3 SoCs are already well defined and will be delivered no matter who left the company.

I’d say we’re about 2-ish years before panic time, assuming this single guy is key to ASi success.

Interesting how it says he’ll be working on Intel SoCs. I’m curious to know if they’re co-opting the term to describe their current processors or are working on genuine SoCs.

Interesting times ahead, but imho Intel will still have problems if the rumors about the internal “badge war” are still true. Maybe Pat Gelsinger has a hold on that though, who knows.

For Apple to hire him back it would be need to be a greater title than CTO so that would be CEO. Or, possibly a fat sign on bonus + CTO.

And of course, Koduri also worked for Apple :)

Exactly. There are only that many jobs for experts at this level and spending all the time at one company is stupid with respect to one’s career.

Another example: Chris’s Lattner, the original developer of LLVM and Swift. Left Apple couple of years ago. Swift has actually dramatically improved since then.

Apple has a lot of very smart and capable people, abs when some of them leave others join. Most importantly, Apple has a vision and a culture to support this vision.

I'm sure Intel offered better pay. If Apple doesn't want to lose talent, pay them more.
Apple certainly isn’t lacking resources. Must have been a beneficial move for them to let him go.

I am not concerned, I am sure that Apple has someone just as talented to take his place.

Doesn't seem like a significant impact based on Apple org chart.
