I only got the perfect month, didn’t complete my August challenge of 40.900 kcalories. Quite a disappointment tbh. I’ve just finished a cycling tour of 3 weeks in Germany, Austria and Italy, in which I cycled over 1.200 kms. Some days of over 5 hours of cycling, some days a climb of 500-600 meters height, some very steep climbs. My AW didn’t give me as much kcalories as I thought. Even though I had to eat enormous amounts of food to keep going…

Wow impressive! Did you use the Workout app on the Apple Watch or another app? Weird that it did not you as much calories as you expected...

I use the Workout app to start and finish workouts. I use FitnessView to watch the results. Same data, better presented.

Indeed I like the way FitnessView presents the data better. I used in the beginning the Workout app but now I use the Athlytic app. It allows me to incorporate Recovery and Exertion in my workout routine, it offers Cardio Fitness level for not just walking and running workouts and it shows me at which heart rate zone I am during workout. It is paid (subscription based) but I enjoy it more than the Workout app. Can't say if it calculates calories differently compared to the Workout app though. I have not tested enough to say.

All those features are coming to the Apple Watch Workout app with the release of iOS 16 and the new Watch OS.

Indeed. Unfortunately I paid for Athlytic before they announced them :). However cannot wait to check them out (once available) and then I will compare and share my impressions!
