If only they made a mid-range blackbook, I would buy it in a heartbeat. I used one of those machines at work and loved it, however(in the edu store anyway) by the time I upgrade the memory on the blackbook to 2 gigs, there is only a $300 difference between the blackbook and the low end mbp. And for that $300, you are getting a faster cpu, built in graphics, and more memory expandability. I just cannot give that up :p

One of the nicer things about the macbook keyboard though is it seems much easier to clean. I love my pb to death, but that keyboard can get nasty underneath the keys! I imagine the mbp are the same way.

Yeah, I was about to say, When its night time i hate turning on my bright ass light just to see what the hell I am typing, i mean for the most part i dont need to look at the keyboard to type, but sometimes im off a key to the right or left and i need to find the damn keyboard. I don't use that "bumps on the F and J" nonsense...

I'm Sure a couple BlackBook owners know what I am talking about.

I don't understand this, the screen on my macbook lights up my keyboard fine enough for me.

I have nothing to back this up...

but from the limited number of people I've talked to, there seem to be more problems with the Macbook than Macbook Pro.

The Macbook looks and feels like a toy.

A couple of hundred dollars is a lot, yes, but in the long run, wouldn't you rather own the nicer computer? (easy to flame this opinion)

The Macbook Pro is just "nicer" (yes, that's an opinion)

If you're wondering which one to get---

just get the low end Macbook Pro!!!!

There!!! Now 1/2 of the threads in this forum will disappear!

Flame away. You're welcome to your opinion. I'll respect it.

Uh-huh. No.

MBPs are bigger and can scratch/dent easier. MacBooks are more durable, smaller and lighter. I've upgraded mine with 2 GB and a 160 GB hard drive.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the MacBook.

If I had the money I would have gotten the MacBook Pro of course, but just for the Radeon X1600 *drool*

I know what you're talking about! In a totally dark room, with those all black keys and because I never look at the keyboard and just type away, I always ended up having to pause here and there for certain buttons and strain to see where exactly they were.

There are only preliminary reports so far, but most agree the MB has superior battery life. Some reports have the MB performing for over an hour more on battery power with all other things being equal, and this is not a trivial difference.

For my applications, even a half hour more of battery power per charge is worth the other performance differences. It is for this reason (and others) I favor and use the MB on the road, and would not purchase a MBP even if it was an option.

Finding outlets on the road is more and more difficult these days, and I am always competing for outlets in coffee shops and other community areas. Also, when working with clients, mobility w/o a power cord really does add up to a better experience.

if it's mobility over power why not get a 12" PowerBook? lol

I wish Apple gave the MacBook a dedicated graphics card, introduced a 13" MacBook Pro at the time of the release of the 15" MacBook Pro. Price droped the 17" MacBook Pro to $2499, 13" MacBoook Pro to $1499 and the low-end MacBook to $999 around now. So this will be like the PPC days where people have choice between buying a 13" MacBook or 13" MacBook Pro like 12" iBook G4 vs 12" PowerBook G4.

i think both are legitimate arguments and i tried everything in my power to rationalize with getting a mb, but for what I need and expect I think a mbp is a better long term investment ...also I have a compaq now with a pretty large keyboard and I've used a mb more than once and the keyboard was hard to type on, the glossy screen is what I have now and I cant stand the reflection in a well lit place or when watching movies in the dark, I also dont like how bad the colors look on the mb screen...i wanted to sacrifice, but these things made it difficult to get a mb and not feel regrets-the price is great on the mb though and if they offered a matte screen and a dedicated video card I would have EASILY got a blackbook...

keyboard lighting isnt a huge perk, not a must have...honestly i dont really look at the keys much now when I type so a light doesnt matter....i'm prayin I get 3-4 yrs out of a mbp...if it does that then it's well worth the investment...my longest going laptop served me for two and that was an ibm thinkpad

I have to disagree with the OP...

I bought a Macbook (black) to replace my G3 iBook 800 as my portable machine. To begin with I do heavy graphic design work (so say 30 feet by 8 feet at 200 res) - so I use my G5 to do them, but the iBook actually held up pretty well (and no it wont open that big of a file). Second, Im not really a portable person - I just feel better having a stationary machine with everything hooked up, but I am liking this Macbook.

It wasnt about cost when it came to this machine and I had my best friend telling me to get a Macbook Pro, when I asked him why he really couldnt come up with anything.

My Macbook is just as fast as a Macbook Pro, with the exception that you can have more ram on the Pro. But basically you are paying $500 more for a video card - and I dont really play games.

I like the plastic case of the Macbook - whereas the Pro can get dents. Also one thing is size, I prefer the smaller size of the Macbook. The rest of the Pros features dont really impress me too much - I know people who buy Pros and max out the ram only to surf the web and create word documents - so Id rather do more with less.
