Simple scrolling in Chrome. If I drag my finger down, iOS responds faster and starts scrolling quicker. There is a longer delay for my Nexus 5 to start scrolling. It is minimal, but it is there. This isn't just in Chrome, it happens in various other parts around the OS.

And BTW, I actually bought an iPhone 5s only to sell it and later get a Nexus 5. I'm not a hater or a fanboy, despite the stupid username that I thought I liked at the time. I just try and be unbias and look objectively. I love my Nexus 5. Its awesome. But lets not pretend Google can do no wrong.

The fact is, iOS respond to touch input quicker than my Nexus 5.

A longer delay between touch input and visuals is not subjective. Sorry.

I am in no way a google fanboy, but Kitkat and the N5 pretty much eliminated any lag android had. On the other hand iOS 7 did iOS no favors. When I pull down to do a search. It hangs for a split second before it pulls all the down. When I am at my 3 screen and click the home button to go back to the home screen. It hangs for just a split second.

As for android I agree there is still some Chrome lag. That is the only place I see it anymore on android. That is why I say they are about even. One place android is smoother. In others iOS is smoother. Gone are the days of iOS ruling this.

Chrome on android is terrible. Try dolphin browser. Its much smoother in scrolling and pinch to zoom.

There are apps though which will show lag. For example quickpic does on my KitKat gs4, and the devs even have acknowledged that and said they have a hard time making it perfect for all devices out there...so there's that.

The VM model isnt perfect, and Google trying out ART shows that they are aware of that (and the performance increase in it over dalvik is noticeable ever since I switched the runtime). Now I refuse to not run ART.

I agree ART is awesome.

To each their own. I never looked back at Apple. I havent used iOS since 3.2.3 on my original iPhone. Never even had the iPhone 2 or whatever it is called. Just liked Android that much so obviously im not missing anything from iOS but it did take me 2-3 weeks to completely leave my iPhone alone for good when i saw all the things i could do with my Samsung Vibrant. From then on, it sat in the box for over 2 years till i sold it.

Now imo its no contest and Android is way ahead.

Yup. To each their own. IMO I fail to see where it is way ahead. Switching back to iOS after a year long with the latest software and hardware revisions says quite a lot :)

It's a bit hard to take a definitive statement like that as anything other than speculative conjecture on your part, especially if you haven't used an iOS device since iOS 3.2.3 though ;)

Personally I find them different and similar in many ways. There are things iOS does which is still better especially on a tablet (due mainly to the number of tablet optimised apps) and vice versa many things an android handset does better. But neither IMHO is leaps and bounds better than the other.

Last year I went from iPhone 4S > Nexus 4 > iPhone 5 > Galaxy S4 > iPhone 5 > Moto X > Nexus 5 > iPhone 5S. I actually bought the Nexus 5 a second time to give it another shot after not liking the size of it the first time. I still thought it was too big.

In the end I always end up sticking with the iPhone. I've never kept an Android device past the return period. There is a lot I like about Android, but IMO the iPhone offers the best experience in both software and hardware. I'd like a slightly larger screen, but I hope that Apple doesn't go crazy with a 5-inch screen like everyone else is.

I'm in the same boat.... I just picked up a Moto X today and a Nexus 7 last Friday and I'm regretting it. I still have my iPhone and I just can't help going back to it. I may just return them both and stick with iOS. Let's hope the iPhone 6 is 5 inches.....

I'm the same way. The whole year that I was using a Nexus 4/7, I kept going back to my 4S simply because I thought the screen was much better and then the apps are so much better when comparing the same exact app on the Android side and then on the iOS side, at least the apps that I use.

Now that I have a 5S and a Retina Mini, I don't think I will ever go back to Android. I may see what happens with the Next Nexus phone in the fall but I am extremely happy with my 5S.

I guess I just see it in a lot more areas than you do, which is fine. People's eyes are different.

I've tried various browsers, and while I agree many show noticeable improvements, the difference to browsing on iOS is also still noticeable.

Plus Chrome's tab syncing feature is great and is keeping me using that over Dolphin, Boat, and Next.

I've just gone back to the iPhone after nearly 2 years of using android phones. I'd say my experience with android has been a mixed bag. My last android phone was the galaxy S4. Now that phone had no lag, it was smooth, fast and had all the benefits of android and touch wiz. My only issues with it were lack of internal memory (knew this when I bought it) and sound quality was inferior compared to my iOS devices. I've also just bought nexus 7, which for the most part has been smooth and lag free. The only issues I've had with it is excessive battery drain in standby mode and it switching itself off on occasion.

In the past I've had bad android phones (note 1), laggy, battery drain, overheating, freezing, random re boots, switching off, SD card failures.

I think android devices are great but require a lot of maintenance. Plus you always have to keep up with the latest and greatest. I like to feel attached to my phone lol I've never felt attached to any of my android phones because vid always been thinking about the latest devices with the best specs. I've had fun with android, but I've decided to bow out of the specs race for now. I enjoy iOS devices. They do what I want, they have all the content that I want. I feel that I make less compromises with iOS than with android. I can live without customisation, but I can't live without the content from the apple ecosystem.

Who knows maybe I'll come back to android one day in the near future.

Nexus 5 and 7 user here. And even coming from an Android user like myself, I couldn't agree more. Android devices require way more maintenance out of the box. You here people on my side of the camp argue "well that makes it more customizable." And that is true, but to the average user who isn't a nerd, which makes up the majority of users, they want something simple that gets the job done with minimal maintenance. That is what Apple does better and isn't something you see nerds talk about on specs sheets.

Android does require more maintenance out of the box, definitely.

But iOS got pretty bad too. My wife's iPhone had Messages taking up almost 5gb of space.

There was no actual solution other than wiping/reinstalling/losing stuff.

Apple has gotten sloppy too, unfortunately. No system is perfect.

Its just a phone....Personally i much prefer Android as it is not locked down like fort knox but at the end of the day i just need it to make phone calls and use whatsapp. If you don't care about IOS's drawbacks then the iphone is probably the better choice for YOU.

The onus is really on you to settle on a device which you feel best suits your needs. If you feel you are ultimately more comfortable using an iPhone, then use it by all means.

There are many little things that Android does better. Like sharing. Like being able to use different keyboards, etc. Android imo is just way ahead. And i mistyped before. We have a iPad mini in the house but i didnt like it so i gave it to our Daughter. I have used iOS 6 and really only looked at iOS 7 as i just havent used it since i gave it to her. It just isnt enjoyable to use. Back buttons in different spots on different apps or applications. Blahh.

I kept going back to Android and i have no desire to have a iPad or a iPhone. I would however like to have a iMac.

I guess ive been lucky. Ive never had a Micro SD card issue. The first one i bought was a Kingston and it is three years old and working fine in a GS3 and the other is a PNY and is been used for 18 months in a GS3 and now in my Yoga 11s and never had an issue. Pretty much they are used for music, video and pics.

Other than customizing the phone...which i dont consider maintenance, ive just periodically recieved OTA updates and installed them. No maintenance required there. I dont worry about having the latest and greatest. I keep my phones usually over a year at last. Sometimes two years but with TMobile i do keep them at least a year when i dont have to.

I dont have phone OCD like some here do :p

Nice hardware, horrible software

It´s the same thing every time.

I see a new android phone and love the design, some of the phones from HTC, Samsung and Sony actually looks good and feels good in the hand.

Then the screen comes on and I start using the phone and 5 minutes later I hate it.. Every time. (And I used Android for about 2 years before switching to iOS, so it´s not like I don´t know how to use it).

If I could get the HTC ONE or Samsung s4 with iOS I would not buy another iphone..

The same thing goes for computers, Samsung laptops just put the MBA to shame when it comes to screen, keyboard and overall design.
But when that windows logo comes up, I start running :)

Apple rarely offers the top spec, but they always provide software that gets the most out of the available hardware.

With Android it always feels like wasted potential of superb hardware.

I couldn't agree less,

Surely you meant I could not disagree more ...

If you couldn't agree less - it means you 'do' agree and can't find anything to lesser the agreement you share with them, when in actual fact you 'disagree' :p

I've got one card which is still going strong. It's almost 2 years old and it's been used in three phones. However I've had 2 fail in my galaxy tab and one failed in my boyfriends S3. Then there was the fake one that amazon sent me. When I talk about maintenance I'm talking about things like cleaning out the cache, constantly juggling apps between the SD card, having to work out why android OS/ google play services is draining my battery, trying to work out why my phone is switching itself off or rebooting etc.

I like the customisation, although apart from widgets, I've never done things like use different launchers. I use swift key or Google keyboard not because I want to customise my devices but because the stock keyboards are inadequate. I use a non stock music player because the stock one is rubbish. In reality I don't miss these things with iOS because I find the stock apps/keyboard perfectly fine.

I'll keep an eye on android in 2014.

I got a GS4 and Nexus 7 in 2013, neither were terrible but didn't keep me from running back to Apple for a 5S and rMini.

This year I'll take another look at a GPE GS5 and Nexus 7. There is some merit, but the responsiveness and "feel" still lacks the iOS refinement.
