So does anyone know when this will be released to the public? I know it's still in beta, but any ETA? I really need something like this where I live. Even going outside is not much help.

If I were you I'd get in touch with Apple and try to escalate as high as you can to try and get one. Any leverage you have will be helpful in getting one. If your monthly bill is high, that will help in the same way that it helped people get the 3GS quicker than 18 months after they got the 3G. Give it a shot :)

Call Apple and not AT&T??

Well, AT&T said by the end of the year. If they are anything like Apple, that translates to Dec 31, 2009 at 11:59:59 PM.

I certainly hope it's sooner than that. I can't wait to be able to actually use my cell phone in my house.

So I just did three speed tests using my M-Cell. One using Speedtest and the other two using Speedtest.net

cool. nearly identical. one question, does yours reboot ever? I noticed mine does sometimes, usually late at night around midnight. 3g bars flash, then after a few i get the service back. i was thinking it may be them pulling diagnostics. i had it reboot also one time while both of us were on the phone simultaneously, although on the website it states it supports up to 4 simultaneous calls

Just a little update on my microcell trial, got an email today:

Dear AT&T 3G MicroCell Trial Participant,

We are looking forward to hearing about your experiences during this trial in the final survey. Look for that survey to arrive via email on August 10th. Please complete this survey by August 14th.

The official end of the trial is August 4th; however, the unlimited minute feature will not expire until August 31st. However, the new 3G MicroCell is yours to keep and can be used at no additional monthly charge for enhanced coverage in your home. Look for local advertising to enroll in an unlimited 3G MicroCell minute feature when the product is officially launched in your area.

We appreciate your support during the trial and hope you enjoy your new AT&T 3G MicroCell device!
Sincerely,

AT&T 3G MicroCell Research Team

So, making an assumption here, it looks as if they are going to give the option of buying the device and using your minutes, or getting an unlimited feature in the future.

Pretty cool, it was fun. And Ive used the hell out of it.

Thanks for the update sir. Looks like they might be rolling it out in a couple of months. It can't come soon enough :)

Sounds like you buy it and can use your phone as normal, however the signal is perfect. Minutes and all that are the same as if you did not have it. Then there would be the option to have UNLIMITED minutes while using the device for a fee.

Make sense, but not really. I still don't get how they can charge you for unlimited minutes on the device, on your network that you are already paying for. Lol. I just don't get that. Whatever. I will pick it up for the coverage aspect.

:D

So, no major problems using the Microcell?

sweet!! i got my last survey for the trial last night. i fill it out, then at the end they are like, if you are selected, would you like to join a discussion group to talk to techs about your experiences with the device, another $100 compensation will be given to you(in addition to the $100 i get for the trial itself), and it would be 3 hours one day (2 hours for the meeting, 1 hour travel time)

I will mention this thread and your concerns (mostly pricing). who knows maybe itll make a difference. As far as the device, the best thing thats happened to my cell service.

Yes, please voice our concerns! They will most likely listen to you since you are the test group.

I think this would be a great seller if the price was competitive and it does as it promises. The big question is.... when can we get it??

Actually. If they follow the mms trend you will get a microcell 3 days AFTER the end of the year date.

Sept 26th - The day people;

  1. Start whining about when microcell will be available.
  2. Start whining about how poor MMS service is.
  3. Start whining about how slow texting is (because of all the very important pictures people are sending via MMS)

How did you become a trail participant?

can't bring it with you. has GPS.

Just for the house, although i guess you can bring it with you. I have literally no bars or one on Edge at the house. Im hoping this will clear it up. I have just a airport express so i was worried that id need to get something with an extra ethernet port but i just daisy chained them together

edit - wait, i didnt read your post right i dont think. This gives me 5 bars 3G in the house, but needs high speed internet.
