if it is a mobile version, any chance to be a 5870m at least?

EDIT: sorry, as long as it is BROADWAY PRO/LP there is no chance to be 5870m, little bit disappointed

How do you know it's not Broadway-XT (aka 5870m)? I've seen no news it being Broadway-PRO or -LP, just mobility 58xx

If it's 5850.. then thats some weak stuff. > less than 10000 in 3dmark 06... http://www.notebookcheck.net/ATI-Mobility-Radeon-HD-5850.23069.0.html

wow...

for this sort of premium price? it's beyond stupid really. if that's it, they have no bussiness putting the price off.

but its more of fault for the competition as nobody can seem to make comparable worthy all-in-one-computers, and then of course it's Apples right to dictate price.

Im just sad as a consumer as I believe in competition making everything better, and making the companies best themselfs instead of this.

I will still for official benchmarks, but I had seriously hoped for something better, than this. the Imac feels so expenssive. even without VAT i shutter to think about buying a machine with this card.

for a native resolution with 2560x1440... i just dont think it's going to cut it. had it been 1080 it would have been great, but how the hell is that GPU going to be able to take care of things? and I guess you can forget all about a second 27'' display...

I wouldnt try doing Crysis at this in native... or battlefield... or GTA... or video editing:(

But I hope I am wrong in these assumptions.

Hellhammer did some digging, and it seems it is a mobility 5850.

Which means on par with 4850 in last gen imacs. I agree its a huge letdown. I was hoping for 5870 but no.

the 5850 just isnt powerful enough to drive games at that resolution.

You must understand that notebookcheck shows a lot of the numbers from mobility 5850 with GDDR3 memory instead of GDDR5 memory. If you look at the games it did benchmark with GDDR5 memory instead of GDDR3, the card performs anywhere from 5-20% faster than mobility 4850. Also note that GDDR5 version of mobility 5850 has 64gbps of memory bandwidth compared to mobility 4850's 54gbps, which is 15% greater.

So, on average you can expect the mobility 5850 to be 10% faster, with the added bonuses of lower heat production, larger memory buffer when needed, and greater access to open cl.

So I must say, I went to the Apple Store West County today and was looking for a Magic Trackpad and left with a 27" Core i5 iMac! I was going to place an order online, but they had it in store. I'm only moving from last years Core 2 Duo 21.5" so I had owned that for less than a year and it was a great machine. I'm hoping to keep this one longer. :)...

Which i5? The base 27'' has BTO for the i5 dual-core, while the high-end 27'' has the i5 Quad standard.

Good point. Do you know which of their laptops use GDDR5 version? then maybe we can search youtube and find out something we more on games performance even though laptop wil have 2560x1440!

I forgot which laptop specifically, but you can click those colored squares with fps numbers in them to look at what product they used to test. You'll see that the lower numbers use GDDR3 an the higher numbers use GDDR5.

dwd, could you give us some information on normal use temperatures and fan speeds you're getting for the new gpu and cpu? Use iStat Pro widget to find out.

i have the high-end 27" quad i5. I have win7 now but i am at work so i won't be able to run any tests and gpu stuff for a few hours.

Play in a window!

You will get speed, same definition as native resolution, same size as a smaller screen.

I'm buying the iMac quad i5, i play games. I don't complain cause i've already accepted the fact that in lot of games i will have to play in a window. And it really don't make a lot of difference than a smaller res screen.

You don't have to play fullscreen native all the time. On a smaller screen it suck not being full screen, but on a 27'' display, it really is not a problem.

ok sure thing. Again, it will be a few hours at least. if you all can wait that long! :) work is very non-productive today.

I've perused some benchmarks and the Mobility Radeon 5850 HD with GDDR5 looks to be a solid entry. A step above the 4850 HD in speed with double the VRAM and more modern support (DirectX 11) to boot.

Still, I'm sure someone can run some rudimentary benchmarks comparing the old iMac 4850 to the new iMac 5850. Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

I ran the Mac version of Geekbench 32-bit and the screenshot is below:

I installed bootcamp and Windows 7, but it won't work. I get a bsod when I try to boot. Go figure!

Temp for the cpu is 50 degree C

alright i got w7 up and running on my new i5 quad. What is it that we want tested with it? the GPU, what program should i test it with... sorry took me a while ti get it all running, however I cant get it to go to full reslution yet... probably some driver issue. I don't have all the updates in yet so we will see what happens when windows update is done.

Let me know what you want tested on the i5 quad.

sorry guys i just can't get win7 working to the point of getting gpu-z on it. Once I installed the apple bootcamp drivers, the whole thing went to heck.
