So is the Mobility 5850 with DDR5 that is supposedly in here... is that pretty good? A lot better than the last gen?

Look at some of the other GPU threads for more info, but consensus seems to be maybe a 10-20% performance boost at most in some games due to the faster RAM, plus better texture performance (less stutters) for very large textures. The chip itself isn't actually significantly better than the 4850M.

But all that's extrapolated from either specs or "comparable" benchmarks. Nobody has done an actual side-by-side of the two Apple builds and talked about it yet.

I believe the 5850M 1GB is actually a lot better than the 4850M. Paired with a Core i7 CPU it should blast through things.

I've started to notice to accurately compare the FPS on notebookcheck, you need to make sure the CPU being used is similar, and what screen resolution was being used.

I am so hoping they fixed the screen issues as well (expecially before launching the 27" cinema screen)

I've had 3 different 27" iMacs (late 2009) at home, they all had a black shadow (like a bar) at the bottom, one device had a minor yellow tint, and 2 out of 3 had the noise issue from the power supply if the brightness was down. I decided to wait for the new version, which came earlier than expected.

@first-time-buyers: Any feedback on the screen quality?

From the looks of a few of the newer iMacs, I still see the gray banding at the bottom, I do not see any yellowing yet though.

Could anyone post the RAM timings in the new iMac?

I guess they're CL9, just want to make sure.. Thanks!

I pray to the heavens that this is NOT the case regarding the gray banding :-(

It's like with a dead pixel.. as soon as you know it's there, you see it all the time...

Update: In a german forum someone reported that he does indeed have the noise issue from the power supply (depending on the brightness setting) with his new iMac (although not yet 100% confirmed that it actually is the new one)... so it seems that one of the 2 major issues still persists :-(

I'm starting to think the gray banding is something inherent in their build, like the vertical shadow lines you got on trinitron crts back in the old days.

I'm really, really curious to find out what the comparative gaming performance of the vidcards is. My iMac is still new enough to possibly talk the store into exchanging with restock, but I don't want to go through the hassle for a marginal gain. Time's ticking though--figure if I don't ask by this weekend, won't happen.

I posted pics in the yellow screen thread, still some yellow and gray banding

alright, first of all not srue about the OP but mine is that quad core i5. Second I already posted the geekbench for me... it was 6712

Wow. And that's the QC i5. My '06 Mac Pro (see sig below) gets 5596.

Can't wait to see what the 2.93GHz QC i7 will get :D

Hd 5850m

I am not sure how much stock to put in this benchmark link, since it doesn't indicate how much RAM is in the cards, but from a baseline the 5850M is a lot slower than the ATI 5750 dedicated card & even slower than the 4850M.

I do not like Apple misrepresenting the card in the 27" i5-760. The iMac even states it is a 5750 & not a 5850M. All the material on Apple's website lists it as a 5750. Seems to me, it's false advertising and misleading to consumers. I am not a gamer, so probably won't see any real world difference, but it is wrong for Apple to state something that isn't true.

Well enough ranting for my first post. I do like the iMac -it's our first Apple computer product. I have 2 PCs and love the clean look of the iMac vs all the clutter on my PC towers. I bought iWork & love the templates. It is far and away better than Office 2007 - IMHO.

The 5850 mobility can use either GDDR3 ram, or GDDR5 ram (apple uses this ram).. The benchmark you've posted is obviously NOT the one with GDDR5. This is the difference. With the same drivers, it's still faster than the 4850 mobility in the last model.

Just got the new iMac 27" i5 Quad and 13" MacBook Pro C2D after months of waiting for the refresh. The iMac is a frickin' monster, it is just amazing.

Have been on it for two days and it seems to be okay, no problems with grey banding or yellowness (fingers crossed).

I'm currently at work missing it already:(. The missus has some serious competition;). Also bought the MacBook Pro, as i took back my HP PC, which was a pile of brown stuff also got $300 off the iMac as i Bought them both together. I am in heaven.
