I don't know, the 13" MBP which is closer configuration wise to the 14" X1C, has more power, i.e., 45W TDP processor and the GPU is a 640, instead of the 620. I suspect the 13" MBP would hold its own against the X1C

If you've been eyeballing a Lenovo X1C or X1 Yoga now is the time to buy!

I've heard good things about the Yoga, and I'm not down on the purchase, so don't take my words the wrong way. I'm just pointing out that the MBP is not a bad machine in its own right. It's not perfect, but spec wise its good imo.

I've heard good things about the Yoga, and I'm not down on the purchase, so don't take my words the wrong way. I'm just pointing out that the MBP is not a bad machine in its own right. It's not perfect, but spec wise its good imo.

Current pricing wise, the Lenovo's are almost impossible to beat... I have a 2017 nTB right now (I'll probably sell it - not sure) with 16GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD and its fine for my usage. I don't really do much heavy lifting so base'ish models are generally fine for me. I VM every so often so pretty much need the added RAM.

With this one, I upped the CPU from the 8250 to the 8350 as it was needed in order to get the 16GB RAM option. I didn't get the LTE option this year and I didn't upgrade the SSD.

I've always like the Lenovo X1C, the X1 Yoga and even the standard Yoga's. I get a 10% discount from my former employer but if you are military, a student or a teacher I think you can get another 15% off!

I mean like 7700HQ / Hex i7/i9, GTX 1070 / 1080. 32GB RAM, 2+ TB storage or more, looking at hex cores right now I suspect my current primary notebook will turn a 15" MBP inside out

X1C versus 13" MBP, IMHO X1C way better notebook for those on the go, ports in the real world and all, importantly no KB issues. X1C is how thin & light should be done without overly compromising the user experience.

Rarely see deals across Asia from Lenovo, shipping from the US is also problematic as need to deal with local taxes etc. If get over to the US on business I'll definitely be looking to pick something up, either a lightweight like the X1C or another high performance notebook. Right now mostly focused across China, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines etc.

Yeah, some companies very unfairly increase the base price in some markets, which again is impacted by local taxes, equally one can still find deals Planning on putting a "thin & light" through it's paces this weekend, still a 17.3" not quite as flexible as my current primary, however what pique's the interest is under 3Kg with a hex core 8750H, GTX 1070, 32Gb RAM and duel drives, if also has a 2nd M.2 slot could be a contender.

Of course the big question is can it keep all this hardware cool under load, I know this can

I'm thinking of a Lenovo, too, but I'm not sure if I can trust them since their debacle a few years ago. It's either them or a high performance mobile workstation from Dell or HP. I had a Samsung ultrabook I liked a lot, but it would get hotter than a MBP due to the tighter shell and metal.

So after some research and honestly not liking Apple’s direction, I ordered a similar computer to the OP except I did opt for the HDR 500 not screen, 512 SSD, and the 4G LTE-A Modem.

My mid-2013 MacBook Air is still running but the screen is lackluster. I have the 2nd gen iPad Pro and an iPhone 7 Plus - I hate to move to Windows by I’m gonna give it a try. I have been using Windows 10 at work and it’s not bad at all. It’s a trimmed down version so the Microsoft store isn’t available.

Once i receive the laptop I will post my review of it - however I am deployed overseas so it will likely take some time before I receive it.

In the meantime, if anyone has suggestions as to what Microsoft apps they find useful, please let me know. I will have office 365 and will need to get the iTunes/iCloud apps, but really unsure as to what else I may need. I’m thinking an Adobe license - I work and sign PDFs a lot.
It’s a shame To leave after 9 Plus years, but the weight, battery, screen, and somewhat need for Internet explorer for my job are worth a try.

HWinfo64 will let you see if any throttling is occurring & ThrottleStop may resolve by dialing down the CPU Core & Cache voltages. You can stress test the system with OCCT or in the extreme for the CPU Prime95

Great I will look into it and post accordingly.
I used to do light gaming with battlefield 2 so I may try to play a moderate game on it as I know it can handle some games even without the dedicated graphics care.

Really looking forward to the screen on this thing and the lightweight. Hopefully windows 10 Pro won’t be to hard of a learning curve. I will miss macos but I may still pick up an iMac down the road when the mid13 MBA craps out.

What no update since May?

I'm very curious about going with the X1 Carbon 6th generation. I've used the 5th generation and other than that ridiculous 'ThinkShutter' it's VERY similar in design.

Of note the ThinkPad T480s is almost just as slim and yet packs a dedicated video card for the first time in this T-series category. T470/460/450/440s all did NOT have dedicated video cards. The T430s some configurations did.

T480s, more ports, same processor choices with slightly higher TDP makes this model a better choice unless you have to show others you have an X1 Carbon

OP: incredible price ... not hating as even I would get an X1C get 6 with similar specs. Unfortunately my former employers supplier didn't have any cheaper deals July 1st, July 15th or last week Friday so Apple got my money. I'll keep looking on eBay as my son is in need for a new computer next month

Initial impressions are this laptop is just fabulous. A 13.9 inch screen into about a 13 inch footprint - thing is super thin too. And yeah its superlight - its crazy how light it is. This is my first PC in almost 8 years. Setup was easy out of the box, and Ill start migrating my data tomorrow. The screen on this baby is amazing. I mean it really is a nice screen. I had read some people had screen bleed on their laptops - I do not have that issue.

And the keyboard, well it goes without saying for a thinkpad. I had tried the 2017 MacBook pros keyboards and I jut didn't like them. I know there is a 3rd generation iteration of Apple's keyboard, but the thinness is there - and I don't know if I'd get used to it.

I am not sure on performance or how to test it, but I am open to suggestions to show benchmarks, cooling etc.

Once I have had a little more time with it I will post some more thoughts. I know Ill miss some aspects of MACos, (I do still have my ipad pro), and I may pickup a MacBook later on, but for now this computer checks all the boxes!

Could you please test if it runs hot and whether or not has noisy fan when playing 4K videos. Please also test about how it handles different resolutions when it is connected to a 4K monitor. Is there a scaling issue?

CineBench is a tool many people come to rely on for benchmarking.

@Queen6 mentioned hwinfo64, keep that running while executing cinebench and you can see what your temps are as it runs through the benchmark. I think your temps should be fine, since you're running a 8350u processor.

Thanks - I will look into those when I get more time. I posted a pic of my new X1C rocking a skin Havent done the migration of files, setting up iTunes, etc yet which is of course a pain in the butt - but part of the moving to Windows 10 experience.

So I posted some stuff from OCCT - im really not sure how to use the program, but ran this after doing some browsing, having email open and several applications open.

The battery life right now doesn't seem to bother me - but I haven't tested it thoroughly yet - with regular performance and screen at about 80% it is easily getting over 5 hours but I will update this when I have a better sense of it.

The screen on this thing is really gorgeous. I do have the i5 (16gb) as I had read that there wouldn't be much of a performance boost for nonpower users like myself, and there is less chance of throttling with the i5 so I went with it. It has been great for my needs. Im still getting used to windows - and some applications like whats app etc take a little longer to open but that could be the app itself and not the computer?

I don't have a 4k display so I wont be able to weigh in on that. As for fan noise, it did kick in a couple times, and I barely noticed it. Certainly nothing to complain about - it was not super loud at all. There are aspects of Mac I do miss like no updates and Im still getting used to Windows 10, but I do like Cortana.

If there is something specific you want me to test with OCCT let me know - sorry for the ignorance, just not up on all that. I cannot stress how light this machine is. So far no regrets about this purchase!
