I have had my X1C for about 3 months now and I must say that this laptop is really a great device. I have enjoyed the little things windows 10 brings to the table (I.e. personalization settings, internet explorer, and flash player). The screen is awesome to watch movies on and I connect the laptop to a JBL Charge 3 potable speaker and its flawless connecting to it each time.

I do have the 500 nit screen and watched 2, 2 hour movies on the laptop, brightness set all the way up, with still about 35% left on the battery. Although I have yet to see over 9 hours battery life on it, the fast charging option is very convenient. And the thing is just so light with a small footprint on a 14 inch screen...It really is a joy to use for reading and typing. The trackpad works well, although it doesn't touch the trackpad on my rMB. But to multitask and browse the web, edit docs, its really a great computer. I find myself using it more and more all the time, and picking up the rMB only to use iBooks or browse the web when watching a movie.

Am I correct that if I find the real estate of MBP2018 13" (under Mac OS) to be small, it is very likely that I will find the real estate of X1C under Windows 10 will also be small regardless of whether it has FHD or HDR WQHD screen?

I came across a X1C6 user. The QWHD screen is nice but it seems that the screen real estate is good for students only. She also had to enlarge the font size. She said that the battery life is only 6-8 hours.

My only downside with this device is 16:9 screen. If Lenovo would use 16:10 that would be really great. But with 3:2 it would be 'magical' :)

To be honest, the 16:9 screen is why my usage of the X1C(5th Gen) tapered off quite quickly. I do use it from time to time but not near as much as I should (I upped its specs for a variety of usages, but kept the CPU at i5). I had a Sony Vaio E14 and its screen although also a 16:9 didn't actually feel like I was using a 16:9 screen. But this might have been due to its lower resolution maybe? The X1's is quite stark to be honest.

I know the 6th gen is miles in front of the 5th gen, but if someone has both, how much does real life usage contrast between the 2 in terms of performance etc?

I can't quite answer the question as I have yet to see the X1 in person, but Windows 10 uses a different scaling system to macOS, so you should be able to adjust everything to give you a comfortable amount of screen real estate. I have a 2013 MBP and I find the real estate too small at the default scaling. I'm hopeful the X1C will provide more space.

I will probably not keep my X1C6. For the record I ordered mine nearly maxed out, i7, HDR, 16GB/512GB.

I really enjoy the machine overall. However I'm pretty unhappy with both how the surface coating seems to wear but more importantly the fact that my HDR display has absolutely horrific backlight bleed. I'm unsure whether or not it's worth the effort of trying to get Lenovo to fix it or not.

Can you post some images of the surface wear?
