Although the fan noise is minimal (no louder than my old MacBook air fan or 2010 MacBook pro), the computer will get hot underneath when on my lap. It doesn't bother me, but it is definitely noticeable compared to apple laptops which don't do that.Thanks. How hot does it feel in practice?

I have not tried the 2018 MacBook pro. I had tried the 2017 MacBook pros in the stores, and I really didn't like the keyboards. That is part of the reason I started looking elsewhere. So far this machine has been nothing short of superb. If you are on the fence give it a go, I don't think you will be disappointed. The 2k screen on this thing is really nice, and the almost 14 inches of screen real estate while being compact is awesome! Thanks. Have you tried the MBP 2018? So far, how do you like the X1C6 compared with the MBP2018?

Thanks. I am considering your machine, the X1 Yoga (did you consider it), Yoga 920 and T480.
Somebody mentioned that it was annoying to have hot air blowing out from the side of the laptop as he was using a mouse near the machine. Have you encountered that situation yet?
Hello raqball and roxygal9, I may order X1C6 instead of waiting for X1 Extreme and P1 as I worry that the latter two may have thermal issue. How is going with your X1C6? Any issue? Which screen panel do you recommend for programmer and writer using latex (typing on text editor and a preview on a second window)? Since I have been using rMBP 15" for many years, I am concerned that the screen and resolution of the X1C6 and X1 Yoga may be too small.
So as far as thermal or heating issues I have had no problem, although I am not a power user. I use it mainly for word processing, movies, and surfing the web. So far I haven't minded the Win 10 experience, however I do miss the better screen resolution that comes with MACos. I have played around with the resolution, and still trying to figure out a good resolution - anyone has any suggestions on this I would appreciate it. Besides the X1C, I did wind up buying an open box 12 inch MacBook - and I love it for my photos and music. I was really missing iPhotos on my Thinkpad, and still haven't been able to get iCloud installed on it. I am going to keep the Thinkpad for now, and continue to use it as needed. However, I find myself picking up the 12 inch macbook more often or the iPad Pro...

This looks like a winner!
I will still hold off for reviews and for some discount, but if everything in that thread is true, x1c is a keeper!
Really impressed by fans and no throttle, but still, this is just on guy, will wait for more user reviews.
Are you talking about the X1E or X1C6?
The X1E and P1 seem to have good cooling solutions so based on what I read, no thermal issues like those experienced by MBP 2018 users. Cannot understand why there is no reviews from Lisa and David, etc.
Which screen would you recommend, FHD or UHD? As a MBP 15" user, I am used to retina resolution so FHD may be too low. However, UHD may have 4k scaling issues.
I picked up an X1E, after having returned a 3rd 2018 MBP due to various issues. I haven’t had as much time to spend with it as I would like. To many other projects lately, but initial impressions are that I really like it.
The cooling is definitely more aggressive than the MBP and the fans will run louder, but it doesn’t allow the system to bounce around the 95-100c range as my MBP always did. It gets a hold of the temp increases fast and cools it down. Some folks maybe won’t like the additional fan noise, but I think it’s preferable to a hot laptop constantly running near the thermal limit.
So far I am happy with the choice of the 4K screen. The anti-smudge/anti reflective coating does a good job. The screen isn’t as bright as the MBP, but I find it bright enough. Text is clear and easy to read. colors are bright and vivid. Fast charge works well. Lenovo advertises 0-80 in 60, meaning 0% to 80% in 60 minutes. My own test netted 84%
What is your configurations and battery life? Some users mentioned that unlike the MBP 2018, there is no need to choose the i5 to avoid heat and noisy fan due to the better cooling system. Is that true?

I ment X1E of course. Posted in the wrong thread
For windows laptops, I would always suggest going with FHD or qHD (if available). I always plug my laptops in two or three monitors, and Windows scaling is a joke. To put it mildly. So with FHD you usually get lousy screen (compared to rMBP), but less scaling issues, and a better battery life.
@Queen6 will now attack me for this scaling statement, but all of this is due to Windows being a complete s**t with scaling, and keeping to much legacy in .NET won't help. Every version of windows has this issue, and it still isn't resolved, and won't be any time soon.
But still keeping my attention directed to X1E, but wouldn't purchase on at this moment. Linux issues need to be resolved first, and still waiting for those reviews.

Just because I don't agree with everything you say doesn't mean I blindly follow a company or it's products, and last time I checked having a different opinion is permissible on a public forum and not a form of attack...
Given that some consumers have received their units, I cannot understand why there is no professional reviewers talking about the X1E on YouTube
That one baffles me as well.
I would agree with that. I chose the i7/16gb/512GB model. The amount of RAM/SSD almost irrelevant since both are user upgradable. I haven't paid as much attention to the battery as I should. When I drained it to 0% to test the fast charging, I left it largely unattended including overnight. Last night I had it out on the patio for 4 hours or so and it was down to about 48%, so my guess at this point would be 8 hours +/-. Battery if is always so subjective, depending on what you are doing on it.
Currently using it wearing shorts and resting on bare skin. I find it warm, but not uncomfortable.
Congrats enjoyWell, been using x1c for a few days now.
Keyboard is great, as expected. I was already using P series, so this didn't surprise me at all. But anyone who writes a lot (writers, coders, etc) will appreciate this beauty.
I'm using it in dual boot, Win10Pro and Manjaro Deepin. I find Manjaro to be a way better choice for my needs, but there are a few issues I still haven't resolved, but will do that as soon as I get more free time.
I got 16gb, i7, HDR version with 1TB SSD. So basically the best that money can buy at this moment. I was reluctant because of battery life, and some issues people are mentioning on reddit. But overall, I got very lucky, since I don't have any issues at all. At least for now
Battery life is good as well. By doing some light work (VS, VS Code, Unity, Godot), I can get around 7h of battery life. I expected way less because of the screen, so this is really good. Also fans kick in only while compiling larger project (did it just for a test). They aren't loud or annoying, and this thing never heats up to be annoying. Just browsing the web, watching youtube and listening to music, well, nothing heats up actually, and fans NEVER kick in.
I have it set up with two external monitors (Dell U2515H) and hooked up via OWC thunderbolt 3 dock.
My plan is to purchase eGPU for when I need additional power (not for gaming, since I really rarely play games at all...), and leave it like that in the office. But when I'm on the go, I still get a really powerful, silent and light laptop.
My only downside with this device is 16:9 screen. If Lenovo would use 16:10 that would be really great. But with 3:2 it would be 'magical'![]()
