My fist Mac is on the way! I can't wait! :D

I chose to pay with Amazon.com VISA and get a $30 credit, I'll cancel it after I pay it off ;)

Do the rebates really take 2+ months?

Congrats!

I was going to ask you to let us know how long it takes for the rebates as I've had bad experiences with Amazon rebates.

So I'm guessing you got the $100 rebate. White or black?

Congrats!

I just bought a 2.0GHZ Macbook and love it!

Now I'm saving for the next release of the Macbook Pro!

actually only $75 rebate for the white one, which I ordered. $100 is for the black one only. I can report when I get the rebate, but that may be 2+ months from now

If I like this thing I will upgrade the HD and RAM myself ;)

I don't have any experience w/ Amazon rebates, but this looked like the best deal when combined with the $30 credit.

Yep, Amazon is cheaper (after rebate) than the educ. discount. I'm going to give them a try in a week.

You can order from canada. Just go to amazon.ca. BTW, congrats on your macbook purchase. I have the same laptop and I love it.

Congratulations! I did the same thing last week. I was originally going to wait for Leopard and purchase a MBP, but then someone gave me a $150 gift certificate to Amazon.com. Between the gift certificate and the $100 rebate I decided to purchase a Black MacBook now instead of waiting.

My MB has been working out great and I really love it. :)

I, too, just put down on a spanking new Macbook (Black) with 2GB RAM. My first new Mac since 2003 which was this PBG4/1.0. It's still chugging along faithfully but work requires the need for running a Windows machine and I'm not about to sacrifice my workspace for a PC at this point.

It's been a long run of Macs starting with the SE, LC, Quadra 650, Quadra 800, Powerbook 1400, Powermac 8500, Powermac G4 (blue), Powermac G5, and the Powerbook G4 and I don't regret a single minute of it.

I ordered a Macbook a few days ago as well. :) Should be here Friday.

My Powerbook has developed a few issues, buzzing logic board and flickering screen with a strange, unnerving puffing sound. I'm not sure how much it'll be to repair but it sounds expensive, so I decided to jump on an Intel portable now and worry about fixing the powerbook later.

I was originally going to get a MBP but the Macbook feels like a much better price for what you're getting. In saying that, the next revision of MBPs should be interesting. Maybe I'll upgrade at the end of the year. :p

ok, Well I'm annoyed that I missed my opportunity to buy a C2D refurb MacBook. I was going to purchase it before heading to school, but I woke up to find the white 2.0 was sold out! The price difference between a refurb after taxes and a new MacBook from Amazon after rebate is $55.

Is the extra $55 worth it to get a new machine? On the plus side: New, get the retail box, get it sooner (possibly by Friday if I were to order tonight). And waiting for the refurb: cheeper, always that chance for a free upgrade.

How is Applecare with a Mac purchased from Amazon? Can you take it to a retail store, or does it have to be shipped in?

GO with the apple refurb. With the 55 you can get a sleeve and keyboard protector. Also you could get the free upgrade.

Next Amazon question: Has anyone used Amazon Prime? Is it easy to cancel, and will it add more junk mail to the inbox? I'm thinking about signing up for the one month trial so I could get the overnight shipping for only $4 - potentially getting the MacBook by Friday. I don't buy from Amazon very often, so after this purchase I would have no need for Prime.

dang, to buy or not to buy. I guess I'll see if any refurbs are added tomorrow.

I have the money to buy from Amazon, it's more a question of how much I want to have left. Also, since I will probably be buying Leopard and iLife whenever they come out, that'll deplete my cash reserve that much more. Ahhh, what the heck... maybe I should just go all out and get a blackbook as-well

It's a tough decision but it's your choice. I had originally wanted a blackbook but did not have enough funds for it. I had purchased accessories first (dumb move). Well now I just sold my Macbook and placed an order for the Macbook. I need it for an assignment due Monday that's why I opted for one day shipping. Also the class requires that I use Windoze  Oh and the blackbook will complete my setup (all black). I'll post a picture in the "Post your Mac setup Past and Present" thread.

I did sign up for the free trial fo Prime, it was effortless to cancel and no junk mail.

No cutting the box for Amazon rebate. Going to an Amazon website and entering the order number from my confirmation email and maybe the serial number were all I had to. I could complete the whole application in front of my iMac. It still took about another six or eight weeks before I received the check, but the best rebate experience for me so far.

Thanks for the the info. I'm glad to see Prime is easy to get rid of; my mom is worried it'll be a pain to cancel and that Amazon will send mail trying to get her to sign back up.

The rebate can be done online? I thought it was a mail-in. That's another bonus.

It looks like I have about 85 minutes to order with the option over overnighting for $4. I might have to do it. I just soooo want to.

If I had known that Amazon Prime was easy to cancel, I would have signed up and then canceled later in the week. Oh well, you should buy it before the deadline for overnight shipping so you can have it tomorrow without having to wait. :D
