OHHH, I jacked this up this week too :D

Did you unpack it? Then you THINK it's doing something (you know - something dumb like installing it), but I had to copy it to my Applications folder. Otherwise i had to mount it every time. It didn't do what i expected it to do at all!

I have no idea what I did with it  but I think it is mounting, I'm on windows right now ;)

How did you get the internet to work? Are you using Parallels or BootCamp?

I am using both now. I formatted, installed OS X from scratch, then installed boot camp and XP. Installed the drivers in Windows. Not long after I got parallels. Internet works fine any way I try it. My internet did not work at first in OS X, I just had to change the encryption type.

I also messed around a little and I think I have Firefox working without mounting, lots of things to learn.

This is a NICE laptop, no more using the wife's Dimension 5100 from 2003 :D

now about that rebate...

I can't fill out the rebate! Every time I put in my order number and e-mail address it takes me straight to this message:

Too much time has elapsed since your last activity. As a security precaution, you have been disconnected. Please return to the main page and log back in.

I have tried it on my PC and Mac, using IE, Opera, Firefox and Safari!!!!

Um..that's not good. Odd..it was actually quite simple for me and I was surprised I didn't have to do much. Maybe try on another computer?

First post from my MacBook! It sure is one beauty! Anything I should know? I'm thinking about reinstalling OSX... Is there a guide or something on the proper way to uninstall / reinstall?

Ahhh damn... I just noticed a stuck pixel. With safari open, it's in the area where the address bar is. I just downloaded pixel fix widget. How long should I let it run at a time? Has anyone had success with it? Any other suggestions?

[EDIt] Instead of the widget, I decided to run JScreenFix. It says 20minutes, what's the max amount of time I should leave it running?

Next Amazon question: Has anyone used Amazon Prime? Is it easy to cancel, and will it add more junk mail to the inbox? I'm thinking about signing up for the one month trial so I could get the overnight shipping for only $4 - potentially getting the MacBook by Friday. I don't buy from Amazon very often, so after this purchase I would have no need for Prime.

dang, to buy or not to buy. I guess I'll see if any refurbs are added tomorrow.

I wouldn't use Prime... I forgot about it, and suddenly they've withdrawn, uhm I forget: $80-100 from my VISA card. Noticed it when my statement came, got in touch with Amazon about the automatic withdrawal from my account how I wasn't notified etc. I jumped on a the Prime thing when they were offering it for free for selected customers... I seriously don't order that much from Amazon that I need a Prime account.

On my 80GB HDD, I have 55.5GB available... How much space could I gain by doing a fresh install.

That's normal. It depends on which programs you want/won't be using...I unchecked all the languages, Garageband, Microsoft Office Trial, iMovie HD, iWork Trial, and a few others I can't remember. Anyways I had about 104GB free, with a capacity of 111GB (Weird cause the black Macbook should have 120GB). So the clean OSX install saved me about 18GB!! Which I then used towards BootCamp and WinXP to use Microsoft Office (yay! no trial version!).

When you do the reinstall, make sure you click on (can't remember) "Options/Customize" before clicking "Ok" or else it will do a full install of OSX.

Might be a dumb question, but how do I do a clean install of OSX? Do I just stick in the CD's that came with the MacBook? Will it erase everything on the MacBook? I haven't transfered anything over from my iMac yet, but I have downloaded a few programs... not a big deal to reinstall those.

On a different note, along with the stuck (I think...) pixel, it doesn't seem as though my right button clicker functions properly. It doesn't make the audible click, and works about half the time, the left click works as it should. Is it worth taking to the Apple Store to get checked out? I'm most disappointed about the pixel but understand they probably wouldn't do anything for me.

[EDIT] on a different note: right now I'm trying to calibrate the battery. I used the MacBook while it was charging last night and then ran it on battery until it went to sleep this morning. Does it need to stay asleep for the five hours the Apple document recommends, or can I start charging and using it sooner?

What do you think... My right mouse clicker does not function like the left. The left side functions as I would exepect, but the right side does not "click." It works better towards the middle, but to the right right side you do not get the same tatcile feedback that the click was successful. It usually takes twice the normal clicks to correctly imput or I have to press harder than normal.

On the one hand I want everything to be perfect with my MacBook. On the otherhand, I would feel a little odd going to the Geniuses complaining about the mouse when both sides of the click serve the same purpose, and it's only the right side that works with some defect.

Is it worth taking in? Because I bought it on Amazon, would the Genious Bar at my local Apple Store be able to do anything, or would I be forced to ship it in?

Of course you should take it in! You paid a lot of money for the computer and it's not your fault that the right side of the click button is not working the way it should. Apple should - and will - take responsibility for that so there's no reason for you to 'live with it'. Also, Apple markets its products as having superior design and quality and therefore worth the premium - ANY little thing that doesn't work the way it should with normal/reasonable use is therefore worth getting fixed. That's what you paid for: good quality and service.

I read about lots of people reinstalling OSX... Is it really woth it? How much space would I save if I got rid of all the languages but kept all the iLife apps except maybe Garageband? Is there any other stuff I wouldn't need?

Yep, it came about a week ago. Perfect fit. I'd highly recommend as this will prevent your palm rests from being discolored in the future.

Saved me about 16-17GBs which I then used for BootCamp/WinXP

You may save about 1.7GB (estimating) if you got rid of all the languages. Garageband is about 2GB so total you'd save almost 4GB.
