Yes, I see your analogy and point of view on this. I was using the same analogy to express my opinion that the differences are not worth the cost. In my case, the luxuries provided by the high end car don't do anything for me. The same as with the Pro.

I'd also add that I would not use a Civic as an example of a beater car. It's actually quite a nice, high quality, efficient car that does everything the Cadillac does for me, at half the cost. The same with the regular iPad.

So I agree that most people don't really need a Pro but that some actually do for specific reasons.
The base iPad is a good tablet so I think it works well as an analogue to the Civic.

Beater tablet, I think would be the Amazon Fires for $30-100. :p

Loving my 2018 iPad. Using it every day. Mostly as a reading device and a notebook with the Apple Pencil. Love Notability and re write my math class notes there and do my homework in that app. I use it with an external keyboard to talk with my wife during work. I’ve read two books on it so far. 24 books planned for this year. :)

Originally got the 2018 iPad late last year but sold it to my brother who needed it bad. After three months with out it I decided to get it again. Reading on it vs iPhone is a no brainer.

My wife’s iPad Pro last gen is thinner faster but other than that this iPad is very capable.

Planning on getting a few years out of it at least.

As a civic owner I would agree. Very good analogy. Not cheap but not BMW expensive but almost as capable. Battery life is just amazing.

well, this ipad is hard to beat for its price. bought one of this as my gaming device (128gb). i have air 2 but i cant hold it anymore since my son use it most of the time.
i want the ipad pro 11 but i cant justify the cost since my usage is very minimal so i returned it... and i always leave my ipad on for auto farming in my ragnarok game. i will be worried if i will do that in a more expensive ipad haha...

I want to know if the 2018 iPad is as fragile as the iPad Pro. Does it have the unresponsive issue? If its more reliable I might switch in the next iPad release to replace my 2018 iPad Pro.

The 2018 iPad (non-Pro) is a tried and true design. Nothing leading edge, nothing fancy... just rock-solid. But there's no camera bump so if that's something that's important to you, you might be disappointed. It doesn't have FaceID, laminated screen, ProMotion, TruTone, and the other Pro-exclusive features.

After I get rid of my iPad Pro 3rd gen 11”, I may grab 1 of these, hell maybe even 2.

How do they perform in Adobe Rush CC? Can there CPU keep up?

The new iPad Pro is garbage.

An iPad 6 gen bought new is not a 'beater.' It is simply a less expensive alternative to the more expensive options that Apple manufactures and sells. Treat it well and its a fantastic product that meets most people's needs and looks great.

A 'beater' car is one that is rusty, heavily used and past its prime, and often needs lots of money invested to keep it on the road and functional.

Many library systems in the United States are subscribing to the OverDrive service. It allows you to check out digital books from your local library. If you rent or own a home, you are paying property taxes in one way or another and they typically fund your local library. Go ahead and do a search of your local library's web site and check to see if they are have made the service available. Check out the books digitally and save money rather than give more money to Apple or Amazon. Warning, some books are not available through the service (just like real libraries don't have all books).
Saving money is not a crime.

Yes! :D Great post! Libby (by OverDrive I think) is what I use. Highly recommend. I use this app all the time on my iPhone before I got my iPad. Very accurate description of iPad 6th gen.

I don't know how it would perform with something like Adobe Rush. I DO know that Affinity Designer is a hot mess on the 2018 iPad. The major factor is the bloated nature of Affinity Designer (it was designed for an iPad Pro with 4-6GB RAM). For vector work I use GRAPHIC which has tons of features and works extremely well on the 2018 iPad.

U wont notice the airgap just choose the black color...

One thing i notice
Rest finger to unlock doesnt work?

Works for me most of the time. I’ve noticed a few times it doesn’t work. You turned it on in accessibility right ?

Yes i did that..
I use auto setup using my iphone i dunno if that makes a difference..
I reset it now and trying to setup manually

Just curious... do u need to press home button.? When i press it unlocks but i was thinking if i can just rest my finger and no need to press....

While not the 2018, I have the 2017 5th gen iPad and it has been one of the best, most cost effective Apple purchase I’ve made. I use it every day for the Internet, reading, some streaming, casual gaming, and light email/office work. I also use it when I travel and don’t need a computer with me. The LTE connection has come in super handy for me on many trips.

It has also been rock solid so far. No pencil support, but that’s been okay for me as I likely wouldn’t use it anyway. I think this base, budget iPad is one of Apple’s best, most reliable offerings.

I’m looking forward to seeing what they do with it in March as I might upgrade. I usually keep my tablets much longer but if Apple continues to offer the base model at a reasonable price I think I might make the upgrade after two years with the 5th gen.

Yeah, I'm more of a Honda Civic person. Although to be honest, I'm not a car person at all. If it had been economically feasible and practical, I'd just use taxis or ride-sharing services all the time.

Besides I’d take the Honda any day as I need reliable transportation and not the quality associated with US cars. ;)

While some people have issues, calling it garbage is a bit much. Was your experience so bad?

Most of the time I don’t have to. Sometimes it glitches out and makes me hit the home button. But make sure the settings —> general —> accessibility —> home button —> rest finger to open is turned on. I tried it just now and it worked.

Ahh I have apples Smart Cover. So I open that which turns on iPad. Then I rest finger it works. My iPhone wakes when I lift it up or tap screen.

The iPad has to be awake, so yes, you have to press the button (unless you use a Smart Cover or case that automatically wakes the device), allowing your finger to rest as you do so will unlock the device. This is how every device with TouchID works.

This. For me, it’s the only good iPad because of the older design. And it also doesn’t have touch disease, gets super hot, stutters, or bends the way iPad Pros do.

If Apple keep the existing mini chassis and screen, give it 3GB of ram and pencil compatibility, I’ll buy it. If not, Wacom tablet here I come since my Surface Laptop does everything else I used the 2018 iPad for.

And so far, I’m actually loving this thing. I get it’s the “budget” model of this product line but for my daily use (media consumption, social media, and general research and reading) its more than enough.

I also use it for video editing via LumaFusion and its fantastic. Now, I would have purchased the Pro had I felt I needed it but again, for what I do, this iPad was more than enough for me.

Anyone else having a solid experience with this specific iPad?
I just picked one up today. I use it for web surfing and reading pdf files and I love it already.

Thanks for clarifying...
I’m loving mine too...
I find the color more vibrant in the 2018 ipad than my ipad air2 ...
This is surprising coz air2 have laminated display...

Air 2 on the left... 2018 ipad on the right
