So people with a lot of disposable income aren't smart enough to decide the upgrade wasn't worth it?
... so there's not much else to do but return the Max and continue using the discontinued X.
So it's not just the 'X', it's the 'discontinued X'? What exactly are you getting at?

Wow, this thing is huge, I just unboxed mine and waiting for my backup to restore. I was previously on a 7 plus before my X. I will greatly miss my X for its ability to use one handed, but the larger screen of the max is amazing.

Unreal. So many people who actually want the phone have to wait, as people like the OP return them hours after receiving because it’s ‘just a bigger screen’. Did you not watch the keynote? What exactly were you expecting to blow you away? The website, the ‘hands-on’ reviews and the keynote laid out all there was to know before pre-orders went live.

Hang on a minute pal! Yes I watched reviews etc! Do you buy a car just on reviews without taking it for a test drive ?

I wanted to have hands on myself to make a decision, which I’m entitled to do thank you very much

I feel similarly. However, i’m not going to return it because I still like it. The watch 4, however, coming from a series 0, is amazing.

So I own an iPhone X and I ordered the XS Max last week. It’s just arrived and it’s the first time I’ve not felt excited about a new phone.

I’d like a bigger screen but for the money it’s a lot to pay just for the screen. Everything else to me is exactly the same, so I’ve decided I’ll send it back and hold out another year.

Any one else sending theirs back?

I didn’t really want one badly but my wife needed an upgrade, so she gets the old X and I have the Max. It’s great but I never would’ve spent this much just to upgrade from the X.

I love mine!!!!!

I’m super picknicky with details and the screen is brighter..I notice the tiny things..and the bigger screen makes a huge difference to me. Worth extra bucks a month since I’m on iPhone upgrade.

Only gripe is horizontal...not much diff in wider screen but I suppose that is the ratio issue.

One, I’m not your pal. Second, yes i test drive cars, but I don’t purchase them to do so and then return for a refund. You could have walked into a store this morning and tried the phone. The very phone you were clearly already on the fence about. But you are correct in being entitled. This demonstrates entitlement to the core.

You had an X, that phone was only a year old. Of COURSE it's not going to seem like a big upgrade!

Heck, I have 7 Plus and I don't feel like the phones this year would be big upgrades. I haven't decided yet if I'm going to get a new phone this year or just wait until next year; the thing that tempts me most is the camera improvements since I like to take a lot of photos.

But from an X? C'mon, that's just XSive.

So you mean to tell me you didn’t know it was all the same except the screen? It was wildy reported since the announcement.

Not no but HELL NO!

I'm in the same camp as OP.. however i will be keeping mine as my business is paying for the cost of the device lol...if I had to foot the bill I'd be really on the fence coming from a X and 8 Plus...yes there are key improvements in CPU GPU camera and while they will surely enhance ur experience iOS 12 runs quite well on any recent iPhone. For the premium being charged anyone with a last gen phone probably should give pause unless u really use the camera prolifically or really need the bigger screen...as been said this is an incremental upgrade..at th end of the day your money is your money and your needs are different than others..I'd definitely say the XR is the more exciting of the releases this yr even if it is a gimped XS that price point is honestly what the XS should be.

You didn’t know it was JUST a bigger screen? Try looking at the specs next time.

I so agree with this. I have the iPhone X. I watched the keynote, looked at several YouTube videos, especially after they sent some out early to certain YouTubers. I knew exactly what I was upgrading for. First of all the screen is a little bigger, but I want the larger battery, better water resistance, hopefully better LTE reception, and definitely wanted a better camera.

Having the phone on-hand helps makes a clear decision; and as someone mentioned, Apple should've had these phones on display before pre-orders.

Never - this is the phone I’ve been waiting for. I love my X but it feels small in comparison to my s9+, finally Apple is going to release the phablet I’ve been waiting for — for years.

I feel much better now that I've received and unboxed my XS Max.

First off, concerns about the size are greatly exaggerated. Because of the same form factor as my old X, it is still a one handed phone for the most part. It is slimmer and easier to hold than my old 7 Plus.

Second, it is basically everything I likes about my X, just more so. The screen is gorgeous, and the speed is faster. I have an early X (launch) and it's a little buggy with some things (the speaker/mic do not seem to work as well as the ones on my work-issued 7), so moving to a new unit is good for me.

Finally, the gold is just amazing. I don't think the reviewers got the description of it right at all. It is not a bright gold, like a gold watch gold. It is kind of a darker gold, like what you might see on an 1980's sports car combined with black (think Trans Am or 280ZX "black gold" version). The black screen just matches so well with this dark gold, and the back is hard to describe. In the one review I saw, the described it as the "most regular gold" on an iPhone. The other golds before may have been more of a frosted aluminum gold look, but the XS Max in gold is rich and dark. Some were concerned it would be "too feminine" for me - it actually might be "too masculine" for women. It's very cool, and way too nice to cover up.

Obviously, the OP did not do his/her homework. It's a bit more than a "bigger screen"
