That actually puts a bit of perspective on things, good point. Still though, to live comfortably and sensibly, and not excessively, he's totally rich now, and if he's smart, he's set for life. I doubt he would be stupid enough to spend excessively and become all materialistic and greedy like some pop stars, pro athletes, etc. with their multi-million dollar mansions, sports cars and other expensive, unwarranted habits.

Considering he is apparently tithing 10% to the church, donating to public television and NPR, and has shown he isn't stupid ;) , he'll probably live fairly modestly on his earnings.

More perspective. For the sake of argument, say his winnings total $2,500,000. After taxes (assume 25%), that leaves him $1,875,000. He donates 10% to the church, leaving him about $1.7M. Donates to other causes, leaves $1.5M.

Now, that's a nice chunk of change, and I'm sure he'll get endorsements or books or other things, so he probably won't have to "work" again, but I doubt we'll see stories of him whooping it up in his new Miami Beach condo.

I still think he should've gone to "Millionaire" and just gotten it over with.

Also, I guess he gets his winnings 120 days after he loses, so he's probably enjoying his new lifestyle about now.

Now everybody is sick of him, which hurts his ongoing earnings potential.
I'm not sick of him. I don't watch the show regularly, but tuning in once in a while to see how Ken is doing has been interesting. Last night he passed the $2 million mark and there was a humorous interchange during the "meet the contestants" portion, which went something like this:

Alex: Ken, tell us a little something about yourself. (audience laughs)

Ken: I'm a game show contestant and part-time software engineer. (more laughing)

And boy do I feel smart about the occasional answer when I say the correct question for one that Ken doesn't know!

I agree, he definitely strikes me as that type of guy.

Yah, even if the taxes are higher, he'll still make out like a bandit.

P.S. Gonna be changing your sig soon? :p ;)

I can't tell for certain, but I'm guessing that Ken's last win and first loss will be broadcast this week. He's at $2,305,801 as of Saturday and from reports I think he has at least $2,490,000 to $2,500,000 when his last game starts. Monday night is football night, so I'll check how he's doing whichever nights I remember to turn it on from Tuesday onward.

I'm surprised that Jeopardy isn't on prior to Monday Night Football like it is here in Boston. If not you could always tape and watch it afterwards. Maybe you could get someone in your household to watch it on another TV. I was very saddened by the E.Mail comment that I got from JSRockit, there was no call for that. What happened? :(

Jennings won last night and a promo said that "starting Wednesday" there would be two weeks of college competition. If they meant today (as opposed to Wednesday next week) then we won't see the end of the streak this week or next week after all.

yes, the college edition starts tonight because a student from the school in my town (Davidson College) will be on tonight, and there are parties, etc. planned everywhere.

There was a gasp from the crowd when Jennings answered the question wrong and a standing ovation after he conceded defeat.

It's nice to see that he was a gentleman about it (as he should be after winning so much for so long!) and that the crowd gave him a standing ovation. No doubt he'll be regarded, rightly or wrongly, as the greatest Jeopardy player ever...

I wonder how much publicity he'll be acquiring in the near-future, and if he will cash in on it all.

Quite a bit, I imagine. He's already slated for Letterman and Regis, and that's only the beginning I'm sure....

Thank God, I can finally start being productive again between 7:00 and 7:30. ;)

I hear ya - watching Jennings every night and his repetitive behavior must have been a bit mind-numbing, seeing the same thing over and over and over... Now your mind can be stimulated and productive again!

Ken lost on purpose

There is absolutely no doubt Jennings lost on purpose. In fact, he waited to lose on the most obvious final jeopardy answer to date. Ken Jennings is one sharp guy and to miss a question about white collar workers working only 4 months out of the year? Fed Ex? C'mon, anyone who can't figure this out is not firing on all cylinders.

Ah, let the conspiracy theories begin! Oh wait, I started those a long time ago in this thread when I suggested this whole thing was a publicity scam to boost ratings...

You definitely wouldn't think that he would screw up a question like that though. And even if he didn't know the answer, why would he pick Fed Ex? Only 4 months out of the year? He has to know they work every day, if not Christmas included! Maybe it was just a plug for Fed Ex and H&R Block, an advertising stunt!

Or, maybe he decided his time had come, and he had enough, so he lost on purpose. Who knows....

That's a really interesting point. He seemed like he was trying to lose. He was burnt out and I guess he figured 75 days was enough. It was two "round number" milestones - 2.5 million and 75 days. I guess that was just enough for him. But maybe he did lose. Who knows? Either way, that woman had SUCH a look on her face that was SO priceless.

"Ken is officially the "All-Time Top Game Show Winner" with today's game, he ended at: $2,190,000

The old record was $2,180,000 by Kevin Olmstead on "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" in 2001"

Ken had a very impressive reign on "Jeopardy." Besides the money, hopefully he had a good time. As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end.
