On a related note, I'm excited to see who beats him (and how)!

Imagine beating Ken Jennings...You, like 150 other competitors, feel doomed to failure. "Why oh why did I have to get on Jeopardy during the tenure of the fabled Mormon Marauder?!" You think. But here, amidst the fear and the almost-certain doom, you rise from obscurity to defeat the veritable Goliath of the quiz-show world. You, beater of Ken Jennings, have secured yourself a place in the annals of quiz show history with your unmatched quizdom. Indeed, by your singular victory against Jennings, you have proven the prowess it took him 74 games to demonstrate. You are the Master of Useless Trivia. All bow down before you greatness.

Gee, that would be a great feeling.

Whoever beats him will probably have his/her name in the paper and in web headlines everywhere for a day or two, then be forgotten except as a Trivial Pursuit question forevermore.

Who wants to guess how long the Ken-beater will last in subsequent Jeopardy! games? I'll guess zero, either because of mental exhaustion or because it was plain ol' dumb luck.

I've only watched now and then during the streak (maybe once every week or two), but I caught the show once this week and I knew the answer to a question (I mean question to an answer) that stumped Ken. I guess there's a first time for everything! It was the one about what time in Pacific Time is 17:00 UTC. 17:00 UTC -0800 = 09:00 PST. He's a computer guy too, so you'd think he'd know that one.

Right right--but then they will probably end up losing in no more than 3 days. The thing about Ken is his damned consistency.

Ken's Fall

I was watching my local news this morning and they said that there is a report that Ken actually has lost already. They said the report stated he will lose on his 71 appearance in around October. The report also said he will be a little ove 2 million by then. I thought this was wierd and someone will get in trouble. The reason i say this is b/c everyone involved in Jeopardy and the audience sign secrecy contracts because as you know the shows are made months in advance.

the most "secret" place in the world, or one of them, is the white house

...and we all know nothing ever leaks from there ;)

It also makes sense that the Jeopardy people dont care if it's publicized that Ken is going to lose soon. They already scored ratings gold with him being the unbeatable player, and now they are going to milk his loss.

The last couple days though, it does seem like he is kinda bored with playing...I wonder if he loses because he is BEATEN, or because he just slips up a bit and happens to lose. Those are two very different things.

I've been an avid Jeopardy! watcher for years but lately I've not tuned in. For me, Jennings' winning streak was fun for a while, but now it's an utter bore. I'll watch the upcoming tournament but I won't watch the regular show again until Jennings is gone. Enough already. They should return to the 5-win cap. Wasn't broken, shouldn't have been fixed.

Ken Jennings

He will be off in November some time. This is confirmed. My cousin out west who lives in the area knows someone that went on the show. So take it as it is.

Good riddance to Ken - this is just getting out of hand. Jeopardy is getting a bad name, as lots of people are fed up and bored. Ken, who once no doubt increased the show's ratings, is now being a detriment to it. As a result, the producers will want him off so I guess they'll quit giving him the answers.

Have any of you seen the little film that was played at movie theaters before the main feature a year or two ago, about a lady who sat on the sofa with a big tub of popcorn while getting all of the answers right as she watched a game show? I think it was the winner of a short film contest.

In the film, she gets more and more excited as she gets more and more of the answers right. When she gets the final answer right, she throws her popcorn up in the air to celebrate. Then, just as we're thinking she's the smartest person in the world, she leans forward to rewind the tape and play it again.

Wow, I never knew a single emoticon with no text whatsoever could be considered a legitimate reply to a message. Hmm, go figure - I guess it saves a person from thinking up an actual reply and having to type those pesky letters and words... :p ;)

And by the way, I made that comment for the sole purpose of getting a reaction like yours, so thanks for taking the bait... ;)

Has anybody been keeping track? What win number will Ken be up to on tonite's broadcast? I want to know so I can figure out when to start watching again. I'd like to see his last win and his first loss.

I'm up for seeing his first loss as well. Hmm, are they going to bring him back for the Tournament of Champions though at the end of the year? That would pretty much make the tournament a write-off, it would probably be quite the ratings failure, I don't know if the producer's would allow that. Plus he has his 4 bazillion dollars anyway, who cares if he wins a little more...

You know, it seems as if he has won a ton of money (and don't get me wrong, he has won no small amount), but to get what he's gotten so far he's totally kicked butt on a difficult game show for quite a long time. In contrast, People with 50 times as much money as him in the lottery on a semi-regular basis.

Or the "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" $10 Million version. 1 hour. $10 Million. As opposed to whatever he has won in 6 months.

If I'm Ken, I win my $1 Million, then retire while people still somewhat like me, and go on the talk show circuit and write a book or something. Now everybody is sick of him, which hurts his ongoing earnings potential.

That actually puts a bit of perspective on things, good point. Still though, to live comfortably and sensibly, and not excessively, he's totally rich now, and if he's smart, he's set for life. I doubt he would be stupid enough to spend excessively and become all materialistic and greedy like some pop stars, pro athletes, etc. with their multi-million dollar mansions, sports cars and other expensive, unwarranted habits.
